Nahum Sokolov in Belgrade [March 9, 1928]
O poseti predsednika egzekutive Svetske cionističke organizacije gospodina Nahuma Sokolova Kraljevini S.H.S. u mesecu martu 1928. godine pisale su brojne lokalne i jevrejske novine. Tom prilikom on je posetio Beograd 9. marta, Sarajevo 14. marta, i Zagreb 18. marta 1928. godine. Jevrejske novine „Jevrejski glas“ donele su posebne priloge o poseti svakom od tih gradova. Prilikom njegove posete Beogradu pisale su: „U petak, 9. marta ove godine, u 3.45 časova doputovao je gospodin Nahum Sokolov simplonskim ekspresom. Na stanici se našao na okupu jedan veliki broj jevrejskih i nejevrejskih građana da dočeka velikog gosta. Srpsko jevrejsko pjevačko društvo iznelo je svoju zastavu, a sva su jevrejska udruženja delegirala svoje izaslanike. Kad se gospodin Sokolov, u pratnji svog ličnog sekretara, kćeri mu, gđice Sokolov, pojavio na vratima jednoga vagona, oduševljeni skup ga je pozdravio sa burnim usklicima: Hedad! Živio!“About the visit of the executive president of the World Zionist Organization, Mr. Nahum Sokolov, to the Kingdom of S.H.S. in March 1928, numerous local and Jewish newspapers wrote. On that occasion, he visited Belgrade on March 9, Sarajevo on March 14, and Zagreb on March 18, 1928. The Jewish newspaper "Jevrejski glas" (Jewish voice) had special features about the visit to each of those cities. They wrote during his visit to Belgrade: "On Friday, March 9 of this year, at 3:45 a.m., Mr. Nahum Sokolov arrived on the Simplon Express." Many Jewish and non-Jewish citizens gathered at the station to welcome the great guest. The Serbian Jewish Singing Society presented its flag, and all Jewish associations delegated their representatives. Најважниот елемент на материјалната култура и основата на животната поддршка на секој народ е неговиоттрадиционален систем на исхрана. Културата на храна еволуирала низ вековите, акумулираното искуство се пренесувало од колено на колено, благодарение на што се зачувале нејзините етнички карактеристики: составот и методите на приготвување на секојдневни, празнични и ритуални јадења, навики во исхраната, бонтон на трпезата и многу повеќе. Kultura ishrane razvijala se vekovima, akumulirano iskustvo se prenosilo s generacije na generaciju, zahvaljujući čemu su sačuvane njene etničke karakteristike: sastav i način pripreme svakodnevnih, svečanih i obrednih jela, navike u ishrani, bonton za trpezom i jo[ mnogo toga. Komponente tradicionalne ishrane, određene prirodnim i geografskim okruženjem i ekonomskom aktivnošću, pogledom na svet određene etničke grupe i nacionalnim tradicijama, u određenoj meri određuju način života i mentalitet bilo kog naroda. Narodna materijalna kultura Jevreja Sefarda bila je posebno bogata u sferi tradicionalnog kuvanja i ishrane. Nakon naseljavanja ovih prostora, sa sobom su doneli ovo kulturno blago koje ne smemo ostaviti zaboravu, a ujedno treba da ga predstavimo široj javnosti kako bi se videle razlike, sličnosti i identične stvari u ishrani Sefarda i Makedonaca.The most important element of the material culture and the basis of the life support of every nation is its traditional food system. Food culture has evolved over the centuries, the accumulated experience has been passed down from generation to generation, thanks to which its ethnic characteristics have been preserved: the composition and methods of preparing everyday, festive and ritual dishes, eating habits, table etiquette and much more. The components of the traditional diet, determined by the natural and geographical environment and economic activity, the worldview of a certain ethnic group and national traditions, to a certain extent determine the way of life and mentality of any people. The folk material culture of the Sephardi Jews was particularly rich in the sphere of traditional cooking and nutrition. O naseljavanju i delatnosti članova jevrejske porodice Hajduška u Somboru prilog istoriji jevrejske zajednice u Somboru
The Jewish community in Sombor at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century was relatively small, numbering only a few families. The larger settlement of Jews in this city began at the end of the first half of the 19th century. One of the most prominent and oldest Jewish families in Sombor was the family of Philipp Hajduska. According to the available sources, its first member moved to Sombor in 1792. They developed a trade business there, which their sons later continued. The paper contributes to the history of the daily life of Jewish settlers in the Free Royal City of Sombor. It is based on insufficiently-known archival documents from the Free Royal City of Sombor’s fund of the Historical Archive in Sombor. It observes and follows a Jewish family's dynamics and way of life within the Sombor town community and their mutual family and business relations.Jevrejska zajednica u Somboru krajem XVIII i početkom XIX veka bila je prilično mala, brojeći tek nekolicinu porodica. Veće doseljavanje Jevreja u ovaj grad otpočelo je tek polovinom XIX veka. Jedna od istaknutijih i najstarijih takvih u Somboru bila je porodica Filipa Hajduške. Prvi njen član se, na osnovu dostupnih izvora, doselio u Sombor 1792. godine i tu razvio posao vezan za trgovinu, što su docnije nastavili i njegovi sinovi. Radi nastanjivanja i trgovine u gradu neophodno pribaviti posebne dozvole, te su se članovi udruženja trgovaca često bunili i ulagali prigovore na doseljavanje novih Jevreja u Sombor. Tako su se žalili i kada je dozvoljeno nastaljivanje i otvaranje trgovačke radnje Filipu Hajduški 1792. godine. Njemu je ipak dozvoljeno da se naseli u Somboru gde je živeo 17 godina i bavio se trgovinom kožom, vunom i žitom. U više navrata je bio u sudskom sporu sa svojim sunarodnikom Isakom Osterajherom, zakupcem jevrejskog svratišta, zbog toga što je mimo zakona primao Jevreje iz drugih gradova na konak u svoju kuću. Prema podacima o porezu, bio je izuzetno imućan u odnosu na svoje sunarodnike u Somboru, plaćao je daleko veći porez nego svi ostali somborski Jevreji. Imao je petoricu sinova Heršla, Avrama, Simona, Jakova i Isaka i ćerku Saru, i verovatno još jednog sina koga je nadživeo. Neposredno pre smrti je nameravao da se odseli iz Sombora, ali nam nije poznato da li mu se želja ostvarila jer je ubrzo umro. Njegova supruga Šendl se nakon smrti muža preudala za Jakova Stajna, takođe somborskog trgovca. Supruga i deca bili su uživaoci testamenta pokojnog Filipa Hajduške, čija je ukupna zaostavština iznosila 27.466 florina i tri krajcare. Šendl Hajduška je najverovatnije bila majka Simona, Jakova, Isaka i Sare, dok su Heršl i Avram bili Hajduškini sinovi iz pređašnjeg braka. Hajduškini sinovi su se takođe bavili trgovinom, ali nisu u tom poslu bili uspešni kao njihov otac. Jews in Daruvar: the life and destruction of a community
Ovo znanstveno djelo originalno je svjedočanstvo o Daruvarskim Židovima. Tu je i istraživanje povijesti daruvarske sinagoge i općenito judaice u Hrvatskoj. Knjiga ukazuje na golemi utjecaj Židova u jednoj povijesnoj epohi razvoja i napretka cjelokupne Požeške kotline i grada Daruvara, gdje su ostavili dubok i neizbrisiv pečat vidljiv i danas nakon više od 80 godina od njihovog tragičnog nestanka. Prati ih od njihovog doseljenja u Daruvar sredinom 19. stoljeća, istražuje njihove napore, koji se odnose ne samo na razvitak židovske zajednice već i na ukupan gospodarski i kulturni razvoj ovog malog hrvatskog grada. Posebnu pozornost posvećuje aktivnosti i djelovanju židovskih društava, izgradnji sinagoge, povijesti značajnih židovskih obitelji i pojedinaca koji su svojim djelovanjem unutar Židovske bogoštovne općine obilježile i život grada. The book highlights the significant influence of Jews during a historical period of growth and progress for the entire Požega Valley and the city of Daruvar, where they left a profound and lasting impact that remains visible even today, more than 80 years after their tragic disappearance. It traces their presence from their settlement in Daruvar in the mid-19th century and examines their contributions, which pertain not only to the development of the Jewish community but also to the overall economic and cultural advancement of this small Croatian city. Ana Pepina Ristić has passed away - the last Jewish woman in the Municipality of Šid
Deljatin je ukrajinski gradić sa oko 8400 stanovnika smešten u istorijskoj oblasti Galicija, u živopisnom pejzažu kao poslednja kapija pred Karpatima. Obiluje termalnim izvorima zbog kojih je veoma rano postao turističko mesto. Gradić je 1920-ih godina imao godišnje oko 1000 turista. U njemu se smestio mladi bračni par Glazer (Glaser) - Isak i Sofia rođena Fan, pripadnici građanskog sloja jevrejskih porodica. Tu im se nakon deset godina braka, 1924. godine rodila ćerka jedinica Pepina.... The history of the Jewish communities in the Balkans during the Second World War remains poorly addressed in the historiography
- as compared to that of Jews in Western and Central Europe, as
well as in the former USSR. Since the end of socialism, anti-Jewish persecutions in Croatia and Serbia have been documented through a series of major pieces of work. In the cases of the Republic of North Macedonia and Greece, however, the destruction of the Jews has long remained in the shadows. In Greece, the close temporal and historical links between World War Two and the civil war (1946-1949), and the controversies associated with the elucidation of these sensitive events were among the factors that account for the limited number of works dedicated to the predicament of Jewish communities until the 1990s - aside from key testimonies and writings by Holocaust survivors, especially in the immediate aftermath of the world conflict...Istorija jevrejskih zajednica na Balkanu tokom Drugog svetskog rata i dalje je slabo obrađena u istoriografiji - u poređenju sa Jevrejima u zapadnoj i srednjoj Evropi, kao kao i u bivšem SSSR-u. Od kraja socijalizma, antijevrejski progoni u Hrvatskoj i Srbiji dokumentovani su kroz niz velikih radova. Holocaust in the film
U okviru aktivnosti „Zoom Šabata“, u organizaciji Jevrejske opštine Beograd i neposrednoj tehničkoj realizaciji Rake-Rahamima Levija, 26. maja 2023. godine gost i predavač ’Zooma’ bio je Davor Stipić, doktor istorijskih nauka čija se doktorska disertacija, istraživanja, radovi i predavanja odnose na jevrejsko nasleđe i jevrejske teme. Za ovu prezentaciju pripremio je i govorio o Holokaustu na filmu. Naglasio je da su oblici i žanrovi prikazivanja i predstavljanja Holokausta na filmu u poslednjih 80 godina raznovrsni i da se ta tema počela predstavljati i pre samog početka Drugog svetskog rata i neposrednog sprovođenja Holokausta. Istakao je da je to jedna od najrasprostranjenijih tema svetske kinematografije i da postoje brojni filmovi kojima Holokaust nije osnovna tema ali sadrže neke reference, asocijacije, različite transžanrovske i transliterarne asocijacije na Holokaust što je predstavio primerima iz nekoliko filmova. Posebno je naglasio da se tema Holokausta u svetskim filmovima pojavljuje u skoro svim filmskim žanrovima, pa tako i u onim u kojima se apsolutno ne očekuje kao što su to filmovi sa temom humora. Kroz nekoliko konkretnih primera iz filmova upoznao je slušaoce sa mnogim aspektima prisutnosti Holokausta u filmu.As part of the "Zoom Shabbat" activity, organized by the Jewish Community of Belgrade and the technical support of Raka-Rahamim Levi, on May 26, 2023, the guest and lecturer was Davor Stipić, doctor of historical sciences, whose doctoral dissertation, and research, papers and lectures related to Jewish heritage and Jewish topics. For this presentation, he prepared and talked about the Holocaust in the film. He emphasized that the forms and genres of depicting and presenting the Holocaust in film in the last 80 years have been diverse and that the topic began to be presented even before the beginning of the Second World War and the Holocaust. He pointed out that it is one of the most widespread themes of world cinematography and that there are numerous films in which the Holocaust is not the main theme, but they contain some references, associations, and various trans-genre and trans-literary associations to the Holocaust, which he presented with examples from several films. He especially emphasized that the theme of the Holocaust in world films appears in almost all film genres, including those in which it is not expected such as films with a humorous theme. The Holocaust Record: The Second Generation
Predmet ovog psihosocijalnog istraživanja (2017-2019) je utvrđivanje posledica koje je Holokaust ostavio na decu preživelih u kontekstu društveno-političkih okolnosti u kojima su oni rođeni i odrastali. U prvom takvom istraživanju na prostoru ex-Jugoslavije, učestvovalo je 55 ispitanika u rasponu godišta 1946-1961 rođeni i odrasli u Beogradu - Srbija. Metodologija se zasnivala na upitniku od 103 pitanja. Za potrebe istraživanja uvedena je nova odrednica Holokaust-odnos (HO), odnos ispitanika prema Holokaustu primarno dobijen od roditelja i drugih članova porodice, a zatim i od ostalih upliva. HO je baziran na 4 konstrukta: emocionalnom, ponašajnom, saznajnom i nesvesnom. Kvantitativnom obradom utvrđen je skor HO svakog ispitanika, a potom celog uzorka. Potvrđeno je 14 hipoteza od pretpostavljenih 23, dok su neke od nepotvrđenih predstavljale značajan istraživački rezultat. Materijal je, osim kvantitativno i kvalitativno obrađen: psihološki i socijalni aspekt. Rezultati čvrsto pokazuju da su roditelji svoje traumatično iskustvo Holokausta preneli na svoju decu ogledajući se na svesnom i nesvesnom nivou. Međutim, društvene situacije u socijalističkoj Jugoslaviji i specifičan položaj u okviru etničkih grupa i društvenih slojeva, dao je amortizujući efekat na prenesene traume kod ispitanika pokazujući njihovu dobru prilagođenost i fukcionisanje kako na ličnom i profesionalnom, tako u svakodnevnim društvenim okolnostima.The subject of this psychosocial research, conducted between 2017 and 2019 in Belgrade, Serbia was to determine and identify the consequences of the Holocaust's impact on the children of survivors concerning the socio-historical circumstances in which they were born and raised. A total of 55 participants born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia, between 1946 and 1961 took part in this pioneering research. The methodology was based on a questionnaire consisting of 103 tailored questions aiming to uncover the transmission of traumatic experiences specific to the environment in former Yugoslavia. To analyze findings comprehensively, the authors introduced a unique "Holocaust-Relatedness" (HR) model that supported the determination and understanding of multi-complex transmission intensity from the Holocaust survivors to their children. HR encompasses four dimensions: emotional, behavioural, cognitive, and unconscious, and each dimension has a unique value generated from qualitative analysis. In addition to quantitative analysis, the research includes in-depth qualitative insights into participants' psychological and social experiences associated with Holocaust traumas. The results strongly indicate that parents have transmitted their traumatic Holocaust experiences to their children, manifesting at both conscious and unconscious levels. However, the socio-political environment in socialist Yugoslavia and the specific position within ethnic groups and social strata have had a mitigating effect on the transmitted traumas in the participants, indicating their good adaptation to personal, professional, and everyday social life. The peculiarity of the circumstances in which the entire population of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia was found is reflected in the fact that at the beginning of the war, the country was occupied by five invaders: Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary, Albania and the fascist satellite formation, the so-called. The Independent State of Croatia. These circumstances also led to different ways of surviving and rescuing Jews from these areas. The Jewish Historical Museum of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Yugoslavia / Serbia published these books with the help of donations and volunteer work of the editorial board in which seven of nine members survived the Holocaust. These books are an extraordinary collection of tragic and dramatic experiences about unique choices - the struggle for life, dignity, and freedom in partisans; about concentration camps, about refugee life under constant threat, about help and friendships. They are also a good basis for exploring the Holocaust and the history of Jews from the former Yugoslavia. Each testimony is enriched with a series of photographs and together with the text, they make unique documentation material. As the suffering of Jews on the territory of the former Yugoslavia is poorly known to the general public, these books have the task of filling that space.
