DÜNYA BELİRSİZLİK ENDEKSİ (WUI) VE İNOVASYON İLİŞKİSİ
İnovasyon ülkelerin büyümesinde belirleyici bir faktör olup aynı zamanda ülkelerin yenilik yapabilme gücü ve kapasitesinin dikkate değer bir ölçütünü oluşturmaktadır. Ülkelerin alacakları kararları ve uygulayacakları politikaları öngörebildiği durum ise ekonomik yapılarının belirliliğine işaret etmektedir. Aksi söz konusu olduğunda ekonominin belirsizliğinden bahsedilir. Nitekim ekonomik yapının belirliliği ya da belirsizliği mikro ölçekte firmaların ve işletmelerin kararlarını etkilemektedir. Bu nedenle, çalışma dünya belirsizlik endeksi ve inovasyon arasındaki ilişkiyi seçilmiş 10 ülke örneği için 1996-2020 veri dönemini baz alarak ampirik olarak incelemeyi amaçlamıştır. Dünya belirsizlik endeksi (WUI), toplam patent başvuruları ve Ar-Ge sektöründeki araştırmacı sayısı değişkenler olarak alınmıştır. Analizde değişkenler arasında yatay kesit bağımlılığı olduğu, değişkenlerin eşbütünleşik ve fark durağan oldukları sonuçlarına ulaşılmıştır. Ardından yapılan Dumitrescu-Hurlin (2012) nedensellik testi sonucunda WUI ve patent değişkenleri arasında nedensellik ilişkisi olmadığını ortaya koymuştur. AMG testi sonuçları da nedensellik testini destekler şekilde panel genelinde WUI’nin patent başvurularını etkilemediğini ve bu iki değişken arasında anlamlı ilişki olmadığını göstermektedir.</jats:p
Turkish Adaptation and Validation of the European Cyberbullying Intervention Project Questionnaire (ECIPQ)
Over the last two decades, cyberbullying has gained increasing attention from the research community as the phenomenon has become a public health issue affecting children, adolescents, and young adults. Although several instruments assess cyberbullying worldwide, many still need to be adequately validated in different languages, countries, and cultures. The European Cyberbullying Intervention Project Questionnaire (ECIPQ) is one instrument that aims to measure two dimensions of cyberbullying: cyber-victimization and cyber-aggression. Although the instrument has been translated into various languages and validated in several European and non-European countries, validation studies have yet to be conducted in Turkish culture. This study aimed to adapt the ECIPQ into Turkish and to investigate the psychometric quality of the instrument in Turkish population. A total sample of 632 college students participated in the study. Along with the ECIPQ, the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and the Satisfaction with Life Scale were administered for validation purposes. The results showed that the Turkish version of the ECIPQ had sufficient internal consistency. The confirmatory factor analysis supported the two-factor structure of the ECIPQ. The ECIPQ showed adequate convergent validity, as evidenced by the positive correlation between the cyberbullying and aggression scores and the negative correlation between cyberbullying and self-esteem scores. In conclusion, the ECIPQ can be considered a psychometrically sound measure to assess Turkish college students' perceived cyber-aggression and cyber-victimization levels.</jats:p
Synthesis and Characterization of an Alkali-Activated Binder from Blast Furnace Slag and Marble Waste
This study reports an alkali-activated binder including blast furnace slag (BFS) together with marble waste (MW). Cement is an industrial product that emits a significant amount of CO2 during its production and incurs high energy costs. MW is generated during the extraction, cutting, and processing of marble in production facilities, where dust mixes with water to form a settling sludge. This sludge is an environmentally harmful waste that must be disposed of in accordance with legal regulations. In this study, a substantial amount of MW, a by-product with considerable environmental and economic impacts worldwide, was utilized in the production of a binder through the alkaline activation of BFS. In doing this, different experimental parameters were tested to obtain the best binder samples according to workability and mechanical properties. Then, some experiments such as drying shrinkage determination, strength testing, and microstructure analyses were fulfilled through samples with the best values. The findings supported the improvement of the rapid-setting property of BFS by means of the addition of MW. MW reduced the time-dependent drying shrinkage values of BFS by 55%, especially in slag alkaline activation systems with a low or moderate alkali activator content. The substitution of MW (≤50%) in BFS increased flexural and compressive strengths (4.5 and 61.7 MPa), while a reference sample contained BFS only. Although the use of MW did not create a new phase, it contributed to a C-S-H bonding structure during the alkali activation of BFS in a microstructure analysis.</jats:p
Increased para-aortic adipose tissue on echocardiography may closely be related with fragmented QRS
Background: The association of fragmented QRS (fQRS) with many cardiac pathologies such as cardiac fibrosis has been described previously. Paraaortic adipose tissue (PAT) is thought to be associated with many cardiac diseases and there is only one publication on its echocardiographic evaluation. This study aims to describe the possible relationship between fQRS and PAT. Methods: Patients presenting to the cardiology outpatient clinic were evaluated for inclusion in the study. Presence of additional R' wave or notching/splitting of S wave in two contiguous ECG leads was defined as fragmented QRS (fQRS) and patients were divided into two groups according to fQRS status on ECG. The hypoechoic space in front of the ascending aorta was considered as PAT in the parasternal long-axis view. The medical history and routine laboratory parameters of the participants were recorded. Univariate and multivariate binary regression analysis was used to determine the relationship between PAT and fQRS. Results:A total of 221 patients were enrolled and divided into two groups according to fQRS status. PAT was significantly higher in the fQRS group [9.2mm (7.1/12.3) vs 6.8mm (1.2/10.9), p=0.001]. Univariate analysis showed significant association between fragmented QRS and PAT size (OR 1.122, p= 0.001). Binary regression analysis revealed an independent and strong association between aortic size (OR 1.4, CI 1.012-1.938, p=0.042), paraaortic adipose tissue (OR 1.483, CI 1.084-2.029, p=0.014) and fragmented QRS. Conclusions: The presence of fQRS is associated with PAT, a newly defined parameter in echocardiography.</jats:p
Congenital partial diaphragmatic eventration presenting with Chilaiditi’s sign: a case report
Chilaiditi's sign is an incidental radiographic finding, associated with intestinal disposition located between liver and right diaphragm. It is considered as an acquired rather than a congenital condition and the prevalence ranges from 1.18% to 2.4% according to recent adult retrospective studies. The aspects of this rare entity with regards to a 7-month-old male initially misdiagnosed as diaphragmatic hernia is discussed.A 4-month-old Caucasian male was misdiagnosed with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia owing to previous hospitalization with complaints of respiratory tract infection. On admission 3 months later, he was free of any signs and symptoms of intestinal obstruction or respiratory distress. Thorax computed tomography revealed Chilaiditi's sign. A diagnostic laparoscopy was regarded necessary to evaluate the anatomical details. The most prominent finding was the lack of muscle fibers and almost transparent appearance of the medial aspect of the partially eventrated right hemidiaphragm. Owing to delicate anatomical presentation, diaphragmatic plication was considered hazardous. The patient is doing well and under follow-up.It is obvious that Chilaiditi's sign is not always a completely incidental finding of no consequence, and may indicate an underlying congenital diaphragmatic pathology, clearly defined by laparoscopic evaluation in this case
The use of thiazole derivative molecules as sensor materials: Potentiometric determination of Cu(II) ions
AbstractIn this study, poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC)–membrane potentiometric sensors for the determination of copper(II) ions were prepared using 2‐acetamido‐4‐(2‐hydroxyphenyl)thiazole (L1), 2‐amino‐4‐(trifluoromethyl)thiazole‐5‐carboxylic acid (L2) and ethyl 2‐amino‐4,5,6,7‐tetrahydrobenzo[d]thiazole‐6‐carboxylate (L3) ionophores. It was determined that the potentiometric performance characteristics of the sensors prepared with L1 were superior to the others. Based on these properties, the optimum membrane composition was determined as 3.0% ionophore (L1), 64.0% bis(2–ethylhexyl)adipate (DEHA), 32.0% PVC and 1.0% potassium tetrakis (p–chlorophenyl) borate (KTpClPB). The newly developed sensor had a low detection limit of 6.74 × 10−7 mol L−1 over a wide concentration range of 1.0 × 10−1–1.0 × 10−6 mol L−1. Compared with different metal ions, the sensor showed good selectivity to copper(II) ions, had a repeatable, stable and fast response time. The copper(II)–selective sensor could work in a wide range without being affected by pH changes (5.0–9.0). It was used as indicator electrode for the potentiometric titration of copper(II) ions with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), and successfully applied for the determination of copper(II) ions content in different water samples.</jats:p

Validity of Capital Structure Theories in the Shipping Industry: An Application on U.S. Equity Markets
This paper analyses the financial factors that affect the capital structure decisions of 29 shipping companies in the U.S. equity markets. The study focuses on the impact of International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations and new initiatives. The results show that leverage has a negative impact on profitability and size, in contrast to tangibility. It is also confirmed that the decisions of shipping companies regarding capital structure align with the pecking order theory of capital structure.</jats:p
