    No full text
Introduction: Stunting is a short stature caused by chronic malnutrition based on weight-for-age, height-for-age, and chronological age that greatly impacts child growth and development. According to SSGI 2021, Southeast Sulawesi is ranked fifth in Indonesia with the highest stunting rate at 30.2% and North Kolaka Regency has a stunting rate of 29.1%. The causes of stunting are quite diverse, one of which is the lack of protein food consumption. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between protein intake and the incidence of stunting in toddlers. Methods: This study was an observational analytic study. This study was participated by 18 children who were registered at the Lapai Health Centre. Using the cross-sectional method and chi-square test, 18 children will be analyzed to determine the relationship of protein intake to stunting. Results: The results showed that the percentage of toddlers with less protein intake was 72.2% and only 27.8% were in the sufficient category. Toddlers with the stunting category were 77.8% and toddlers with the normal category were only 22.2%. With data analysis using the chi-square test, the P-value <0.05 (P-value 0.04) was obtained. Conclusion: This study focuses on the increasing incidence of stunting in toddlers caused by a lack of protein intake. The results of this study emphasize to that parents and local governments to pay more attention to children's protein intake during toddlerhood by providing varied protein intake.

Introduction: The lockdown due to the COVID-19 leads to changes in health behaviors, including physical activity and sleep quality. The consequence of insufficient sleep among most university students is a decline in their learning ability. Furthermore, insufficient sleep and lack of physical activity can have detrimental impacts on students' physical well-being, such as increased risk of chronic diseases. This study aimed to explore the association between physical activity, sleep quality, and academic performance in Indonesian undergraduate physiotherapy students. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design. One hundred and thirty-four students (Female, aged 18-25) were recruited from the Bachelor Program in Physiotherapy at a university in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index was used to assess sleep quality. To assess physical activity level, The International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF) was used. Students' academic performance was evaluated based on the final grades of the selected course. Results: The majority (63%) of physiotherapy students had low physical activity levels. Almost all students (95.5%) suffered from poor quality of sleep.  Sleep quality and academic performance were found to be positively correlated, indicating that students with good sleep quality performed better in school. It is noted that 64% of physiotherapy students with A and B grades had low physical activity. Conclusion: Academic performance is negatively correlated with poor sleep quality. High-achievement students typically have lower levels of physical activity. This study highlights the issue of insufficient sleep quality and the need for promotion of sleep hygiene

Introduction: One marker of insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes is the triglyceride index (TyG), which has been studied to predict the development of diabetic kidney disease (DKD). This study investigates the correlation between the triglyceride glucose index and diabetic kidney disease in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed, Proquest, ScienceDirect, Taylor and Francis, Cochrane Library and Google Scholar search using search terms including (‘‘Triglyceride Glucose Index or TyG’’) and (‘‘Diabetic Kidney or Diabetic Nephropathy’’) and ("Diabetes Mellitus" OR "Diabetes Mellitus Type II" OR "Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus"). Results: A total of 8 studies were screened based on titles and abstracts, of which 7 studies were included in the analysis of TyG and DKD. A prediction model including the TyG index demonstrated excellent calibration and discrimination for the probability of DKD in research involving patients recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This approach has potential applications in clinical practice. DKD and metabolic diseases are independently correlated with the TyG index. Recently, one sensitive method for identifying DKD with insulin resistance has been the TyG index. The TyG index is a readily available, affordable, and simple marker for identifying of microvascular problems in T2DM patients. Conclusion: In our review, TyG and DKD were significantly positively correlated in patients with type 2 diabetic mellitus. TyG index has potential as a practical tool for determining insulin resistance and predicting the probabilities that individuals with type 2 diabetes are related to diabetic kidney disease

Myxomas are benign cardiac tumors that are mostly found in the left atrium. We present a case of a 20-year-old male patient who presented with worsening dyspnea and signs of right heart failure. The echocardiography shows an untreated giant intracardiac mass in a rare place in the right ventricle, obstructing the blood flow, and massive pericardial effusion. We do a pericardiocentesis first to manage the pericardial effusion. Pericardiocentesis was done in different normal locations due to ascites permagna.  Nevertheless, our patient needs emergency surgical excision as soon as possible to prevent sudden death caused by obstruction, embolic, and other complications

Inspiratory Muscle Training in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Patients: A Scoping Review

Introduction: COPD is a leading cause of chronic disease and death globally, with high mortality rates for those hospitalized or requiring mechanical ventilation. Delaying disease progression and improving patient outcomes can reduce healthcare costs and societal impact. Respiratory muscles play a crucial role in COPD, and specific endurance respiratory exercises have been shown to improve muscle fibers and mitochondrial activity, reducing oxidative stress and fatigue. Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT) is a recommended pulmonary rehabilitation technique that enhances lung capacity and improves exercise performance by altering muscle fiber types and distribution. The impact of IMT implemented in COPD remains unclear. This scoping review aims to ascertain the impact IMT has on COPD patients. Methods: A scoping review was performed in PubMed, Academic Search Complete/EBCSCO, and Grey Literature sources, including Google Scholar. IMT studies evaluating interventions for COPD patients that were published in 2018-2023 were included. Results: We reviewed 644 studies, nine IMT interventions met inclusion criteria and were included in the current study. In the majority of studies, improvements were noted through the implementation of IMT interventions. Several facilitators and barriers were noted during implementation and contributed to the success or failure of the intervention. Conclusion: Overall, IMT had conflicting effects on a variety of COPD patient outcomes. Numerous studies demonstrate, however, that IMT can improve COPD-related outcomes, such as respiratory muscle function, dyspnea symptoms, quality of life, autonomic function, exercise tolerance, diaphragmatic strength and reduced exertional dyspnea, and balance
