    İslamabad ve Rawalpindi'de kamu ulaşımının sürdürülebilirlik faktörlerinin değerlendirilmesi

    A sustainable Transportation system for public transport in cities needs to evaluate the importance of economic, environmental, and social sustainability. This research evaluates the sustainability factors and prioritizes these factors for achieving sustainability in the public transportation of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Appropriate factors of sustainability were identified based on literature studies. A total of 15 factors of sustainability were taken into the account, and cause and effect factors among these factors and their relationship were predicted by applying the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) approach. The overall objective is to rank the sustainability factors in the transportation system to identify the key factors of sustainability in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Results show that air pollution and traffic congestion are important factors of sustainability for transportation in the twin cities of Pakistan.Toplu taşıma için sürdürülebilir bir ulaşım sistemi için ekonomik, çevresel ve sosyal sürdürülebilirlik faktörlerinin önemi değerlendirilmelidir. Bu araştırma, sürdürülebilirlik faktörlerini neden-sonuç bağlantıları içinde değerlendirir ve İslamabad ve Rawalpindi'de sürdürülebilir toplu taşımacılık için bu faktörlere öncelik verilir. Literatür çalışmaları temel alınarak, sürdürülebilirliğin uygun faktörleri belirlenmiştir. Toplam 15 sürdürülebilirlik faktörü dikkate alınmış ve bu faktörler arasındaki neden-sonuç ilişkileri ve faktörleri karar verme analizi ve değerlendirme laboratuvarı (DEMATEL) yaklaşımları uygulanarak tespit edilmiştir. Genel amaç, İslamabad ve Rawalpindi'deki sürdürülebilirliğin temel faktörlerini belirlemek için ulaşım sistemindeki sürdürülebilirlik faktörlerini sıralamaktır.     Conservation of cultural heritage education for secondary school students; the case of Antalya, Döşemealtı Kovanlık Village Secondary School

    Kültürel mirasın korunması konusunda kamu bilincinin gelişimi için farklı yaş grupları ve farklı düzeyler için örgün ve yaygın eğitim modellerinin geliştirilmesi ve aktif olarak uygulanması önemlidir. Bu çalışmada, Antalya Bilim Üniversitesi Mimarlık Bölümü tarafından Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı, ÇEKÜL ve AKMED işbirliğiyle düzenlenen ve Antalya Döşemealtı Kovanlık Köyü Ortaokulu öğrencilerinin katıldığı “Kültürel Miras ve Korunması” konulu eğitim programının hazırlık ve uygulama süreçleri aktarılmış, süreç sonunda elde edilen deneyimler ve analizler ışığında eğitim modelleri için öneriler geliştirilmiştir. Eğitime katılan 5. ve 6. sınıf öğrencilerinin Sosyal Bilgiler derslerinde kültür varlığı ve koruma konusunda almış oldukları eğitimin içeriği incelenmiş, Antalya Bilim Üniversitesi Mimarlık Bölümü tarafından kültürel miras konusunda düzenlenen üç günlük eğitimin, Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı müfredatını destekleyici ve pekiştirici olduğu görülmüştür. Eğitim sürecinde farkındalık yaratmak, dinamik öğrenme ortamları oluşturmak ve bellek oyunları ile bilgileri içselleştirmek için geliştirilen metotlarla kolektif bir öğrenme ortamının oluşturulması ve öğrencilerde somut ve somut olmayan kültürel varlıkların korunması konusunda kalıcı bir farkındalık ve bilinç düzeyi kazandırılması amaçlanmıştır. Eğitim sonunda yapılan değerlendirme anketleri frekans değerlendirme ve içerik çözümlemesi yöntemleri ile analiz edilmiş ve öğrencilerin kültürel miras konusunda edindikleri bilgiler ve öğrendikleri bilgileri uygun şekilde kullanma becerileri incelenmiştir. Eğitim sürecinde elde edilen deneyimler, gelecekte gerçekleştirilmesi planlanan daha kapsamlı eğitim programları için bir rehber olma potansiyeline sahiptir.To increase the public awareness on the conservation of cultural heritage, it is important to develop and actively realize formal and non-formal education models for different age groups and levels. In this study, the preparation and implementation process of "Conservation of Cultural Heritage" Education Program which was organized by Antalya Bilim University, Department of Architecture in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, ÇEKUL and AKMED for the students of Antalya Döşemealtı Kovanlık Village Secondary School was explained. The educational content of Social Sciences courses of the 5th and 6th grade students who participated in the education was examined, and it was seen that the three-day program on cultural heritage organized by Antalya Bilim University Architecture Department was supportive for the curriculum of the Ministry of National Education. During the education process, creating a collective learning environment was aimed by using methods to internalize knowledge with memory games and to provide students with a permanent awareness of the conservation of tangible and intangible cultural assets. The surveys which were applied to the participants at the end of the program was analyzed with frequency evaluation and content analysis methods, and the students' knowledge about cultural heritage and their ability to use the information they learned were examined. The experiences gained during the education process have the potential to be a guide for the more comprehensive education programs planned to be carried out in the future.No sponso

    The examination of childhood traumas, personal characteristics and psychological symptoms as determiners of emotional eating

    Bu çalışmada yetişkin bireylerde çocukluk çağı travmalarının, kişilik özelliklerinin ve psikolojik belirtilerin duygusal yeme ile olan ilişkisi incelenmektedir. Araştırmanın bir diğer amacı ise duygusal yeme düzeylerinin sosyo-demografik değişkenlere göre farklılık gösterip göstermediğinin araştırılmasıdır. Araştırmanın örneklemini yaşları 18 ve 65 arasında değişen toplam 382 katılımcı oluşturmaktadır. Katılımcılara Türkçe Duygusal Yeme Ölçeği, Çocukluk Çağı Travmaları Ölçeği, Kısa Semptom Envanteri, Gözden Geçirilmiş Eysenck Kişilik Anketi-Kısaltılmış Formu (EKA-GGK) ve Demografik Bilgi Formu uygulanmıştır. Çalışmadan elde edilen veriler Spearman korelasyon analizi ve regresyon analizi üzerinden incelenmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre, çocukluk çağı travmaları fiziksel ihmal alt boyutu dışında, duygusal yeme ile ilişkili bulunmuştur. Psikolojik belirtiler ile duygusal yeme davranışı arasındaki ilişki incelendiğinde ise pozitif yönde anlamlı ilişki saptanmıştır. Kişilik özelliklerinin nörotisizm alt boyutu ile duygusal yeme davranışının pozitif yönde ilişkili olduğu bulunmuştur. Yapılan korelasyon analizinde; cinsiyet, medeni durum, eğitim durumu, gelir durumu, çalışma durumu, kişinin kendini nasıl gördüğü ve kilo için çaba sarf etme değişkenleri ile duygusal yeme arasında anlamlı ilişki bulunmuştur. KSE anksiyete, kişinin kendini nasıl gördüğü, yaş, meslek, psikolojik rahatsızlık, cinsiyet, boy, ÇÇTÖ toplam puanı, duygusal istismar, KSE somatizasyon değişkenlerinin duygusal yeme davranışını anlamlı olarak yordadığı saptanmıştır. Bahsi geçen değişkenler varyansın %40,40'ını açıklamaktadır. Literatür kapsamında araştırma bulguları tartışılmıştır.In this study, the relationship of childhood traumas, personality traits and psychological symptoms with emotional eating in adults is examined. Another aim of the study is to investigate whether emotional eating levels differ according to socio-demographic variables. The sample of the study consists of a total of 382 participants aged between 18 and 65. The Turkish Emotional Eating Scale, Childhood Trauma Questionnaire(CTQ), Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI), Eysenck Personality Questionnaire RevisedAbbreviated(EPQR-A) and Demographic Information Form were administered to the participants. The data obtained from the study were examined through Spearman correlation analysis and regression analysis. According to the results obtained, childhood traumas were associated with emotional eating, except for the physical neglect subdimension. When the relationship between psychological symptoms and emotional eating behavior was examined, a positive and significant relationship was found. It was found that the neuroticism sub-dimension of personality traits was positively related to the emotional eating behavior and negatively related to the lying sub-dimension. In the correlation analysis; A significant relationship was found between the variables of gender, marital status, educational status, income, employment status, how the person sees himself/herself and making an effort to lose weight and emotional eating. It was determined that the BSI anxiety, how the person sees herself/himself, age, occupation, psychological discomfort, gender, height, Childhood traumas scale total score, emotional abuse and BSI somatization significantly predict emotional eating behavior.     An innovative perspective on the impact of innovation on global competitiveness: comparative analysis of EU13 and EU15 countries

    This study examines the relationship between innovation and global competitiveness in European Union (EU28) member states and the differences between EU13 and EU15 countries categorised by wealth level from 1997 to 2019. The study employs the Parks–Kmenta panel data method considering heteroscedasticity, serial correlation and cross-section dependence to analyse the impact of innovation, income inequality, unemployment and labour force share in national income on global competitiveness. The results reveal that innovation has the highest positive effect on global competitiveness, with a 1% increase in the innovation index leading to 13.4% and 11.1% increases in global competitiveness for the EU28 and EU15–EU13, respectively; a 1% increase in income inequality leads to a 0.53% and 0.55% increase in global competitiveness for the EU28 and EU15–EU13, respectively; a 1% increase in unemployment causes a 0.12% and 0.13% decrease in global competitiveness for the EU28 and EU15–EU13, respectively; a 1% increase in labour’s share in national income results in a 0.18% and 0.17% decrease in global competitiveness for the EU28 and EU15–EU13, respectively. The analysis also shows that EU15’s global competitiveness is 11.7% higher than EU13. This study concludes that innovation is the primary determinant of global competitiveness; however, it may come at the cost of a decrease in labour’s share in national income and income distribution equality.No sponso

    Tarihi binalarda pasif ev standartlarının kullanılması ve cephe tasarımına etkisi

    Historical buildings are offered to people with different functions in today's conditions. In these buildings, it is important to ensure the thermal comfort of the users and to reduce the heating/cooling costs with energy savings. It has been proven with examples from the world that it can be much more efficient to restore historical buildings with passive house standards, a system that has proven itself in the studies to be carried out. The restorations made in these buildings aim to investigate the effect of the possible changes to be made on the facade on the aesthetics and value of the historical buildings. The materials used and the changes to the façade are discussed in this sense. The effects of the major changes made on the façade are presented due to the examination of seventeen different buildings. The research results indicate that changes have been made in the facades of buildings to transform the interior into a more comfortable and energy-efficient space. There are many historical buildings in Turkey. Thanks to this construction concept, structures that provide comfort in terms of thermal and air quality inside and ensure energy efficiency can continue to be used. In order to achieve energy efficiency in restoration projects, a preliminary analysis can be conducted by working according to passive house rules. Thus, it is possible to renew the historical buildings that are repurposed and continue to be used in today's conditions without compromising their aesthetics. With this study, it is aimed to use passive house standards in historical buildings that are not included in the literature, and to be an example for new researches and areas to be applied.Tarihi yapılar günümüz koşullarında farklı işlevler ile insanların hizmetine sunulmaktadır. Bu binalarda kullanıcıların ısıl konforunu sağlamak ve enerji tasarrufu ile ısıtma ve soğutma maliyetlerini azaltmak önemli yer tutmaktadır. Uygulaması yapılmış çalışmalar ile kendini kanıtlamış bir sistem olan “Pasif Ev” standartlarında tarihi yapıların restore edilmesinin çok daha verimli olabileceği dünyadan örnekler ile kanıtlanmıştır. Bu yapılarda yapılan restorasyonlar, cephede yapılacak olası değişikliklerin tarihi yapıların estetiğine ve değerine etkisinin araştırılmasını amaçlamaktadır. Kullanılan malzemeler ve cephede yapılan değişiklikler bu anlamda ele alınmıştır. Öncelikle yapıları değerlendirebilmek için tarihi yapıların bir araya getirilmesi ile on yedi bina bulunmuştur. On yedi farklı yapının incelenmesi sonucunda cephede yapılan büyük değişikliklerin etkileri ortaya konulmuştur. Araştırma sonuçları, bina cephelerinde, iç mekanı daha konforlu ve enerji verimli bir mekana dönüştürmek için değişiklikler yapıldığını göstermektedir. Türkiye'de birçok tarihi yapı bulunmaktadır. Bu konstrüksiyon konsepti sayesinde iç mekanda ısı ve hava kalitesi açısından konfor sağlayan, enerji verimliliği sağlayan yapılar kullanılmaya devam edilebilir. Restorasyon projelerinde enerji verimliliğinin sağlanması için pasif ev kurallarına göre çalışılarak ön analiz yapılabilir. Böylece yeniden işlevlendirilen ve günümüz koşullarında kullanılmaya devam eden tarihi yapıların estetik özelliklerinden ödün vermeden yenilenmesi mümkün olmaktadır.     Understanding the nexus between climate inequality and income inequality: a literature review

    It is projected that climate change, which is seen as the most important threat on a global scale after the Covid-19 pandemic, will not affect all countries to the same degree, just like all crises. The expectation that low-income individuals and underdeveloped countries which contributes the least to the climate change will suffer the most from the climate change crisis has led to the introduction of the concept of "climate inequality" into the literature. In a recent report published by the World Bank, it was stated that between 68 and 135 million people will be impoverished due to climate change. The climate inequality report published in 2023 also shows that the effects of climate change will have quite unfair outcomes both between countries and within the country. Therefore, income inequalities, which have started to improve among countries with the effect of economic growth in the last decades, are expected to reverse with climate change. This expectation has prompted researchers to empirically investigate the relationship between climate change and income inequality. The aim of this study is to reveal the literature gap in this field by examining the studies investigating the relationship between climate inequality and income inequality. The findings of the study is expected to provide an important roadmap for researchers.No sponso

    Relationship between abandoned open spaces and pedestrian flow: In a case study of Antalya

    As Jacobs (1961) mentioned, a vital urban life relies on the active street life that results from high levels of pedestrian flow. That flow can help prevent adverse effects and ensure the sociability of abandoned open spaces that emerged in the cities due to rapid urbanization and lack of planning. Different terms have been used to define these spaces. For example, Trancik (1986) defined them as lost spaces that no longer serve their design purposes and therefore need to be redesigned and built. He mentioned that they do not contribute positively to their environment and users; they are not well-defined and have no measurable boundaries. Because of these spaces, pedestrians do not prefer to use the surrounding urban area, so the sociability and the usage of that area and commercial areas are negatively affected. Using the pedestrian flow to solve the problems that abandoned open spaces create can be beneficial. The goal of this research is to contribute to the literature by suggesting alternative design approaches to activate abandoned open spaces through pedestrian flow. To achieve this goal, we investigated the relations between syntactical features of abandoned open spaces and the pedestrian flow around them. The hypothesis is that improving pedestrian flow around these spaces can activate them, and to improve it abandoned open spaces should be more visible and integrated with the urban texture. To evaluate the hypothesis, we selected an urban area with abandoned open spaces near the historic city center of Antalya as the research site. The target city contains various scales of multiple open spaces and pedestrian interaction; it is ideal for studying their relations. With this goal, the following tasks have been conducted. First, determine the locations of abandoned open spaces in the research site. Second, analyze the syntactical features of selected abandoned open spaces. Third, analyze the pedestrian flow around these spaces. Lastly, investigate the relations between the syntactical features and the pedestrian flow. With these tasks, the following methodologies have been adopted. First, we selected a route in the research site and determined the abandoned open spaces on it by observations. We also determined the functions, users, and physical conditions, like being in-between buildings or corners, having empty or occupied neighboring parcels, and having greenery. Second, we analyzed the syntactical features like connectivity, integration, choice, and visibility of abandoned open spaces using Depthmap. Third, we tracked pedestrian flow on every selected site with systematic observations, one week and one weekend day in three different periods. We counted the pedestrians that passed, used the space with the gate count method, and created maps that show usage and the flow for every site. We also consider the flow of vehicles because it affects the usage of these spaces as parking lots. For the last, we compared the values of syntactical features and the pedestrian flow by correlations and tried to discover a pattern between them. Finally, we suggest alternative design approaches that help to activate the abandoned open spaces, not as unused spaces but as sociable environments. Activating these spaces can benefit the urban area economically by attracting more pedestrians. These spaces can be converted into usable open areas that offer pedestrians a convenient place to gather and socialize. The expected benefit of this research is that it suggests alternatives to activate the abandoned open spaces by reorganizing the pedestrian flow around them. The limitation of this research is that it was conducted in one urban part of the city. For future research, conducting it in multiple and different textured parts of the city that contain different types of abandoned open spaces will be beneficial to discover a more consistent design approach to help us to understand the relations between abandoned open spaces and pedestrian flow.No sponso

    Soft computing based e-commerce website service quality index measurement

    It is observed that there is a need for a quality measurement template system that is easy to understand, effective, easily updated according to different requests, contains enough variables, and gives fast results, which can be placed on websites except for general evaluation comments or 5-star rating evaluations after a customer makes a purchase from the online shopping website. For this reason, an inference system based on human reasoning is developed to measure practically the quality index of e-commerce shopping websites according to customer feedback in this study. The proposed system includes four subs and one main fuzzy inference system. 11 parameters affecting the problem are used in subsystems, while five main parameters are used in the main inference system. The main parameters are cargo and delivery performance (CDP), customer support and campaign performance (CSCP), ease of payment and return (EPR), interface quality (IQ), and privacy-security. The subsystems produce detailed outputs for the main parameters other than privacy-security. E-commerce shopping website service quality index is computed in the main system that processes the outputs of the subsystems. In addition, survey data is applied for verifying and supporting the study. Respondents in the survey were asked about the parameter values for their 1st and 2nd preferred shopping websites and it was observed that A3 e-commerce website has high quality index, and A1 e-shopping website has good quality index but should improve its CSCP dimensions. A4 website especially should improve its IQ and EPR dimensions and its quality index is not good compared to others. Finally, a graphical user interface application of the system is formed.No sponso

    Sodium-Alginate based composite films for effective removal of congo red and coralene dark red 2B dyes: kinetic, isotherm and thermodynamic analysis

    The present study aimed to investigate the adsorption capacity of two anionic dyes, namely, Congored (CR) and Coralene Dark Red2B (DR), onto prepared alginate (Alg) and chitosan(Cs) biopolymer films. The two biopolymers were combined at different mass ratios using a “solvent-cast” process to incorporate their unique properties and evaluate their effectiveness in removing the dyes. All samples were characterized by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and determination of point of zero charge (pHpzc). The swelling ratios were determined by gravimetric measurements. The effects of pH, adsorption time, thickness, temperature and initial concentration of CR and DR dyes on the adsorption results were studied systematically. The dye adsorption kinetics showed that the Alg/Cs films at % proportions of 75/25, 50/50, 25/75 and 0/100 reached equilibrium from 30 min to 180 min with high removal efficiencies that varied between 222.30 mg/g and 842.36 mg/g. The adsorption mechanism of CR and DR onto the synthesized biofilms was confirmed through Langmuir isotherm and the kinetics fitted well by the pseudo-second-order model, suggesting a monolayer and chemisorption process. The thermodynamic results demonstrated the spontaneity and the feasibility of the process as well as the exothermic nature. Hence, the findings revealed that the Alg/Cs biofilms could be employed as potential natural adsorbents for the removal of anionic dye pollutants from aqueous environments.No sponso

    Evaluation of the optimal sampling approach for HPV genotyping in circumcised heterosexual men with genital warts

    Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) causes a serious socioeconomic burden globally. However, there is currently no consensus on the optimal sampling method for HPVDNA genotyping in circumcised heterosexual men. This study aimed to determine the diagnostic efficacy of 6 different anatomic sampling sites in HPV DNA polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing of circumcised heterosexual men with genital warts. Methods: The study included circumcised heterosexual men who presented to our clinic with complaints of genital warts. Swab samples were obtained from the penile shaft (PS), scrotum, coronal sulcus (CS), and external urethral meatus (EUM). First-void urine (FVU) and genital wart biopsy (GWB) were also tested for HPV DNA by PCR. Results: A total of 32 patients (mean age: 36.9 ± 6.9 years) were included. None of the six samples studied was sufficient on its own to reveal all HPV types detected in a patient. When the samples were analyzed individually, GWB detected an average of 49.5% of total HPV types in a patient. This rate was 50.5% for PS, 40.4% for CS, 31.6% for scrotum, 26.3% for EUM, and 15.8% for FVU samples. The detection rate increased to 75.8% with combined testing of GWB and PS samples, 83.2% with GWB/PS/CS, 90.5% with GWB/PS/CS/scrotum, and 98.9% with GWB/PS/CS/scrotum/EUM samples. Conclusion: No single anatomic region or sample type can detect all HPV types present in circumcised heterosexual men by PCR assay. The detection rate approaches 99% when wart biopsy is combined with swab sampling of the penile shaft, coronal sulcus, scrotum, and external urethral meatus.No sponso
