Sustainability assessment of public transportation in Twin Cities of Pakistan: a DEMATEL analysis
This study proposed a decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) approach for the analysis of public transportation (PT) sustainability factors in Pakistan. After briefly reviewing the related literature, the PT sustainability framework was constructed, and the DEMATEL-based multiple-criteria decision analysis (MCDM) approach was developed. The proposed methodology was then applied to evaluate PT in the Twin Cities of Pakistan. The results were presented along with a sensitivity analysis involving six scenarios. The results highlighted the following: 1) Traffic congestion, infrastructure and aesthetics emerged as the most prominent factors for PT sustainability. 2) Air pollution, infrastructure, accident damage, affordability, and aesthetics were among the factors in the cause group. 3) Traffic congestion, accessibility, and human health impact were consistently in the effect group, emphasizing their secondary nature. Their resolution depended on tackling the problems in the cause group. 4) Although environmental factors such as air pollution emerged as the most significant causal factor, they were ranked lower in significance. Therefore, although resolving air pollution was key to improving PT sustainability, its importance was not perceived fully. No sponso
Optimization of a biomass-based power and fresh water-generation system by machine learning using thermoeconomic assessment
Biomass is a viable and accessible source of energy that can help address the problem
of energy shortages in rural and remote areas. Another important issue for societies today is the
lack of clean water, especially in places with high populations and low rainfall. To address both of
these concerns, a sustainable biomass-fueled power cycle integrated with a double-stage reverse
osmosis water-desalination unit has been designed. The double-stage reverse osmosis system is
provided by the 20% of generated power from the bottoming cycles and this allocation can be
altered based on the needs for freshwater or power. This system is assessed from energy, exergy,
thermoeconomic, and environmental perspectives, and two distinct multi-objective optimization
scenarios are applied featuring various objective functions. The considered parameters for this
assessment are gas turbine inlet temperature, compressor’s pressure ratio, and cold end temperature
differences in heat exchangers 2 and 3. In the first optimization scenario, considering the pollution
index, the total unit cost of exergy products, and exergy efficiency as objective functions, the optimal
values are, respectively, identified as 0.7644 kg/kWh, 32.7 USD/GJ, and 44%. Conversely, in the
second optimization scenario, featuring the emission index, total unit cost of exergy products, and
output net power as objective functions, the optimal values are 0.7684 kg/kWh, 27.82 USD/GJ, and
2615.9 kW.No sponso
Building customer citizenship behaviour through mobile application quality: the mediating role of flow experience and customer engagement
Mobile applications have become an indispensable marketing medium for tourism companies. Given that half of the users delete the applications soon after completing their transactions, it is vital to improving the application quality based on the users’ expectations. Thus, drawing on the Stimulus–Organism–Response theory, this study investigates the determinants of customer citizenship behaviour related to mobile travel applications. It is a type of value co-creation behaviour, including sharing feedback with the company to help improving its service provision. The analysis results of 315 data collected from travel application users revealed that flow experience and customer engagement, which are affected by mobile application quality, are strong determinants of customer citizenship behaviour. Alongside with the discussion of the findings, the theoretical and managerial implications are also provided. No sponso
A comprehensive study on classification of breast cancer histopathological images: binary versus multi-category and magnification-specific versus magnification-independent
There are millions of cancer cases worldwide every year, and breast cancer is one of the most prevalent diseases with the highest mortality rate. The manual effort of pathologists can be significantly reduced by computerized diagnostic systems, which improve the accuracy and reliability of diagnosis. In this paper, we present four novel systems for breast cancer diagnosis in four different scenarios: binary versus multi-class classification and magnification-specific (MS) versus magnification-independent (MI) classification. In each of the proposed systems, we developed an automatic score-level fused CNN model using a pretrained deep neural network and named it the Multi-Level Feature Fusion (MLF2) model. The MLF2-CNN, similar to the conventional CNN models, integrates the feature extraction and classification phases of BC classification into a single automatic learning procedure. Additionally, MLF2-CNN performs an automatic score-level fusion of several classifiers that were trained with multi-level features to make the final decision. A pretrained DenseNet-121 is selected as the backbone of the proposed MLF2-CNN, and several new links are added to the CNN architecture to capture multi-stage features. Several experiments on the publicly available BreakHis dataset demonstrate that the proposed systems capture the best descriptive features and outperform state-of-the-art techniques in most of the scenarios. No sponso
Ceviz carya illinoensis yaprak özütleri kullanılarak biyosentezlenen nikel oksit nanopartiküllerinin karakterizasyonu ve ve antibakteriyel aktiviteleri
In this study, the biosynthesis of nickel oxide (NiO) nanoparticles and their antibacterial activities were investigated using walnut plant leaf extract. The synthesized nickel oxide (NiO) nanoparticles were analyzed using UV-Visible (UV-Vis), X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The XRD graph provides information about the crystal structures of the (111), (200), (220), (311) and (222) planes. UV-Vis absorbance spectra give a single peak with a peak value of 345 nm. The peak value of the absorbance spectrum at 345 nm is related to Ni/NiO nanoparticles, and the fact that they give a single peak value is related to the spherical shape of the particle. As confirmed by TEM images, NiO nanoparticles have a spherical shape and an average size of 45.25 ± 9.50. The antibacterial activities of NiO nanoparticles were determined by the disk diffusion method, and NiO nanoparticles show more antibacterial properties against the gram-positive (+) bacteria Staphylococcus aureus than the gram-negative (-) bacteria Escherichia coli
Investigation of 209Bi (α,2n)211At reaction route for the production of α-emitter 211At
In this research, the calculations have been done for α-emitters of 211At, which is a promising isotope in cyclotrons for radiotherapy. The scope of the study is to investigate the production parameters of 211At, which can be produced in the cyclotron by bombarding bismuth with an alpha particle beam for the 209Bi(α,2n)211At reaction. The total activity, reaction yield, and production cross–sections of 209Bi(α,2n)211At reaction have been calculated by using diverse level density models of the TALYS 1.95 code. Furthermore, recommended data with 95% confidence limits have been obtained. Experimental data available in the literature based on EXFOR compilation are used to compare the findings. Consequently, the required beam energy has been found to be 28 MeV to produce 211At.No sponso
Silybum marianum aracılığıyla sentezlenen gümüş nanopartikülerinin morfolojisi ve Mcf-7 hücreleri üzerinde sitotoksisitesi : gün ışığı etkisi
1. Bilsel International Aspendos Scientific Researches Congress (24-25 February, 2025 : Antalya, Turkey)Gümüş nanopartiküllerin (AgNP’lerin) sentezinde ucuz, hızlı ve zengin fitokimyasal özellikleriyle bitkileri tercih eden yeşil kimya tekniğinin özellikle nanotıp alanında kullanımı konu alan çalışmalar her geçen gün artmaktadır. No sponso
On a non-Riemannian quantity of (α, β)-Metrics
In this paper, we study a non-Riemannian quantity χ-curvature of (α, β)-metrics, a special class of Finsler metrics with Riemannian metric α and a 1-form β. We prove that every (α, β)-metric has a vanishing χ-curvature under certain conditions. No sponso
“I need to make sense of my birth experience”: a descriptive qualitative study of postnatal women’s opinions, and expectations about postnatal debriefing
Background: Evidence shows that women feel valued and satisfied after discussing their birth experiences.
However, uncertainties persist surrounding the concept of postnatal debriefing practice.
Aim: To explore the opinions and expectations of women relating to postnatal debriefing and their experiences
when the postnatal debriefing is not presented.
Method: A descriptive qualitative study of 20 postnatal women was conducted using in-depth semi-structured
interviews from April–May 2023. Thematic analysis was applied to the data collected in interviews.
Results: Analysis of interview data generated three main themes and nine sub-themes. Women wanted to make
sense of their birth experience They expressed their opinions on the components of postnatal debriefing They
advocated for all women to be offered this practice by known healthcare professionals who interact with them They do
not want to only talk about their birth experience but also meet their needs Women agree that expectations related to
birth determine the need for the practice. They hoped for psychological adaptation by relieving their distress and
gaining a sense of closure. The discussion process was expected to prevent reflection of trauma to the future and
provide transition to the postnatal period.
Conclusion: The present study explored women perceptions and expectations of postnatal debriefing. Healthcare
professionals should behave sensitively to women’s expectations and needs in relation to their birth experience.
Further research is warranted to clarify the components and effects of postnatal debriefing practice to develop
consolidated guidance.No sponso
Consumers’ psychology regarding attachment to social media and usage frequency: A Mediated-Moderated
Although there are studies in the literature investigating the effect of social media marketing activities (SMMAs) on brand equity and purchase intentions, scant information is available regarding consumers’ attachment to social media (ASM) and usage frequency considering the abovementioned variables. Accordingly, one of the main purposes of this study is to investigate the effect of consumers’ ASM on their perceptions of SMMAs. The second main purpose of this study is to test whether social media usage frequency has a moderating effect regarding the impact of perceived SMMAs on brand equity and purchase intentions. Questionnaires were collected face-to-face and a data set of 907 Turkish youth consumers were evaluated. Two major international technology brands were selected for the purposes of this study. Hypotheses were tested using structural equation modeling and the bootstrapping method for mediation analysis. The results showed that ASM and social media usage frequency are distinctive factors in the context of perceived SMMAs. Consumers’ ASM creates a psychological difference that positively affects their perceptions of brands’ SMMAs. Moreover, social media usage frequency negatively moderates the effect of perceived SMMAs on brand equity and purchase intentions. Another important finding is that brand equity partially mediates the impact of perceived SMMAs on purchase intentions. The present article describes the first study to test the effect of consumers’ ASM on perceived SMMAs and to investigate the moderating effect of social media usage frequency regarding the effect of perceived SMMAs on brand equity and purchase intentions. The conceptual framework contains both a mediator and moderator that generated additional insights into the literature regarding the context of this study. No Sponso
