The effect of bio-electro-magnetic-energyregulation therapy on sleep duration and sleep quality among elite players in Norwegian women’s football
The current study investigated if physical loads peak on game days and if Bio- Electro-Magnetic-Energy-Regulation (BEMER) therapy is affecting sleep duration and sleep quality on nights related to game nights among elite players in Norwegian women’s elite football. The sample included 21 female football players from an elite top series club with a mean age of ~24 years (± 2.8). Sleep was measured every day over a period of 273 consecutive days with a Somnofy sleep monitor based on ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) pulse radar and Doppler technology. The current study was conducted as a quasi-experiment, where each player was their own control based on a control period that lasted for 3 months, and an experimental period that lasted for 5 months. Accordantly, the time each player spent with BEMER therapy was used as a control variable. Multivariate analyses of variance using FFMANOVA and univariate ANOVA with False Discovery Rate adjusted p-values show that physical performance (total distance, distance per minute, sprint meters >22.5 kmh, accelerations and decelerations) significantly peak on game day compared with ordinary training days and days related to game days. The results also show that sleep quantity and quality are significantly reduced on game night, which indicate disturbed sleep caused by the peak in physical load. Most sleep variables significantly increased in the experiment period, where BEMER therapy was used, compared to the control period before the introduction of BEMER therapy. Further, the analyses show that players who spent BEMER therapy >440 h had the most positive effects on their sleep, and that these effects were significantly compared to the players who used BEMER therapy <440 h. The findings are discussed based on the function of sleep and the different sleep stages have on recovery.publishedVersio

Valorisation of crustacean and bivalve processing side streams for industrial fast time-to-market products: a review from the European Union regulation perspective
A massive amount of crustaceans and bivalves are consumed each year, leading to millions of tons of processing side streams from the seafood industry. Considering the current trend of (bio)circular and zero-waste food production, crustacean and bivalve processing side streams (CBPS) seem a promising and emerging resource for producing high-value-added products. This paper highlights the general composition of CBPS with high commercial values, namely, protein, lipids, carotenoids, minerals and chitins. The extraction strategies of these fractions, including conventional chemical and environmentally friendly methods, are also discussed. This review presents and summarises CBPS as raw materials for developing fast time-to-market products complying with specific EU regulations, including animal feeds, bio-pesticide/stimulants, and cosmetic ingredients. Early identification of mushy Halibut syndrome with hyperspectral image analysis
Mushy Halibut Syndrome (MHS) is a condition that appears in Greenland halibut and manifests itself as abnormally opaque, flaccid and jelly-like flesh. Fish affected by this syndrome show poor meat quality, which results in negative consequences for the fish industry. The research community has not carefully investigated this condition, nor novel technologies for MHS detection have been proposed. In this research work, we propose using hyperspectral imaging to detect MHS. After collecting a dataset of hyperspectral images of halibut affected by MHS, two different goals were targeted. Firstly, the estimation of the chemical composition of the samples (specifically fat and water content) from their spectral data by using constrained spectral unmixing. Secondly, supervised classification using partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) was evaluated to identify specimens affected by MHS. The outcomes of our study suggest that the prediction of fat from the spectral data is possible, but the prediction of the water content was not found to be accurate. However, the detection of MHS using PLS-DA was precise for hyperspectral images from both fillets and whole fish, with lower bounds of 75% and 83% for precision and recall, respectively. Resultatene i dette prosjektet viser at det er fullt mulig å senke klimautslippet knyttet til transport av norsk laks. Ved å gå over til eksport av fryst laks med båt til markeder som i dag får fersk fisk transportert med fly, eller eksportere subkjølt laks til markeder som betjenes med enten lastebil eller fly, så kan man få store reduksjoner i klimautslipp. Subkjølt laks til Europa har også blitt vist å kunne gi store innsparinger i transport- og emballasjekostnader. Videre er det vist at laks som fryses og tines riktig har kvalitetsegenskaper som er sammenlignbare med fersk laks. Markedsundersøkelsene viste at overgangen til fryst og tint laks ikke nødvendigvis er enkel. Det ble pekt på en preferanse for fersk laks i USA og Japan, samt at forbrukerne ikke var villig til å betale like mye for frossen som fersk laks. Det finnes imidlertid et segment forbrukere som ønsker laks med lavt karbonavtrykk, og dette segmentet er interessant å se videre på.publishedVersio
