No full textAkira Kurosawa ist einer der großen Namen in der Geschichte des Kinos. Seine Filme haben Regisseure in unzähligen Ländern beeinflusst und tun es bis heute. Nach langer Zeit legt Marcus Stiglegger nun eine lesenswerte Monografie über Leben und Werk des Meisters vor. Kurosawas Werke zeigen thematisch eine starke westliche Beeinflussung und sind doch eng in der japanischen Kultur verwurzelt. Da besonders der Umgang mit dem Tod und der Prozess des Sterbens den Filmemacher faszinierten, nannte Stiglegger sein Buch „Die Ästhetik des langen Abschieds“.Akira Kurosawa is one of the big shots in the history of cinema. His movies have influenced directors in numerous countries, and continue to do so. Now, at last, a German monograph about the life and works of the master that is truly worth reading, by Marcus Stiglegger. Thematically, Kurosawa\u27s work shows a strong western influence but, at the same time, is strongly based on Japanese culture. It was especially ways of dealing with death and the process of dying that fascinated the filmmaker, which Stiglegger weaves into the title of this book: "Die Ästhetik des langen Abschieds"

Sie alle widmen sich – aus jeweils unterschiedlichen Perspektiven – Erzählformen und Erzähltechniken von Nationalgeschichtsschreibung in einem Zeitraum, der vom Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts bis in unsere Gegenwart reicht. Während die Beiträge im ersten Teil des Buches das Verhältnis zwischen Geschichtswissenschaft und erzählender Geschichtsschreibung beleuchten, werden in den drei darauffolgenden Teilen nationale "Geschichtserzählungen" in Literatur, Film, bildender Kunst und Musik anhand konkreter Beispiele und Fragestellungen analysiert. Mit lediglich zwei Beträgen zu außereuropäischen Sichtweisen auf die "eigene Nationalgeschichte" untersucht der fünfte und letzte Teil nationale Geschichtskonstruktionen in den USA und Ostasien (Japan und Korea).Being the result of a conference on the shaping of national narratives at the University of Glamorgan in May 2004, this book relates to the relationship between nation and narration. 14 essays on the topic are written by authors rooted in different academic disciplines, ranging from History to Comparative Literature and Political Science. Beginning with three chapters on the relationship between scientific history writing and national narratives (part I), the following parts (II-IV) deal with the promotion of national narratives in the fields of literature, film, and the fine arts, including music, while covering the period from the early nineteenth century to the present day. No full textMit "Der sympathische Vampir" beschreibt Marcus Recht fließende geschlechtliche Identitäten anhand von zwei Charakteren der TV-Serie "Buffy". Durch die Analyse des Bildmaterials zeigt er den Leserinnen und Lesern wie der männliche Vampir zwar auf den ersten Blick klassisch männlich wahrgenommen werden kann, die Figuren jedoch nicht von einem starren geschlechtlichen Korsett gehalten werden. An Hand der Serie zeigt Recht mediale Figuren, die Grenzen ihrer sexuellen und geschlechtlichen Identität erweitern und damit auch verändern. Die dazu analysierten Charaktere geben uns Beispiele vor, wie auch wir einen Bewegungsraum in unserer Sexualität und unserem Geschlecht haben können, wenn nicht vielleicht schon haben.In Der sympathische Vampir Marcus Recht describes fluid gender identities. He analyses the visual data of two main characters from the TV series "Buffy" and shows how spectators perceive both male characters as classically male on first sight, but a closer look reveals they are granted more leeway from binding gender roles. Using the series, Recht shows medial figures that broaden their gender identity and are able to change it. The analyzed characters give us examples of how we, too, are capable of more potential for movement within the areas of sexuality and gender

Get PDFIn her book Anja Kangiesser focuses on anti-capitalist art-activist practices from the Berlin Dadaists to the recent actions revolving around issues of precarisation of life and labour, privatisation, migration, and commercialisation of higher education. Her focus is neither the specific aesthetics of such political actions, nor the political potential of their artistic approaches; rather she focuses on how such practices transverse traditionally firmly set categories of art and politics, performer and audience, activist and non-activist, in order to engage them in an active play with and against each other towards unforeseen political and artistic effects. And while the chosen theoretical framework for thinking the transversal between arts and politics remains entirely in place without being significantly rethought or reformulated, it is questionable how much her writing manages to entertain the stated tension of this transversal. Yet this ambiguity, as the author makes clear, might be constitutive for transversality itself
