    Clinical implications of polymers and lipids in designing drug delivery systems in geriatric use

    This paper will emphasize some of the clinical implications of polymers and lipids in designing drug delivery systems in the geriatric population. This article will give us an overview of the advantages and disadvantages of polymers and lipids in formulating DDS in individuals over 65 in the United States. Lipid polymer hybrids can be advantageous in systemic drug bioavailability to patients who have decreased drug carrier capacity. Older adults may benefit from lipid polymer hybrids as it enhances drug delivery and drug targeting process. Most of the older adults use a minimum of 4 to 6 medications for a variety of medical ailments and conditions. Polypharmacy may be an advent situation in some of the cases, which can be reduced by innovative drug delivery options

    A new RP-HPLC method for the determination of Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate in pure form and pharmaceutical formulation

    The present study aimed to develop the new method for the estimation and validation of tenofovir in pure form and in pharmaceutical dosage form by RP-HPLC. The chromatogram of tenofovir was developed through column (Hyper ODS2 C18), UV detection at 260 nm at a flow rate of 1.2 ml/min with Methanol and Phosphate buffer (90:10) as mobile phase. The method was validated by various validation parameters such as accuracy, precision, linearity, specificity as per the ICH guidelines. A linearity range and retention time of Tenofovir were found to be 20-110 µg/ml and 2.1 min respectively. The % RSD of the Tenofovir was found to be 0.7. The % recovery was obtained as 99.7% for standard and 96.32% for tablets. This method was simple, accurate, precise and sensitive. Hence, the developed method was employed for the routine analysis of Tenofovir in the pharmaceutical dosage form

Therefore, the present review discusses the detailed analysis of the current research reported in the technologies of utilizing the lipids, polymers, and their role in delivering the drugs, genes, and designing advanced implantable medical devices.     Design, development and in-vitro evaluation of pinaverium colon targeted tablets

    <p>In the present research work colon formulation of Pinaverium targeted to colon by using various polymers developed. To achieve pH-independent drug release of Pinaverium, pH modifying agents (buffering agents) were used. Colon targeted tablets were preparedin two steps. Initially core tablets were prepared and then the tablets were coated by using different pH dependent polymers. Ethyl cellulose, Eudragit RLPO and S100 were used as enteric coating polymers. The precompression blend of all formulations was subjected to various flow property tests and all the formulations were passed the tests. The tablets were coated by using polymers and the coated tablets were subjected to various evaluation techniques. The tablets were passed all the tests. Among all the formulations F6 formulation was found to be optimized as it was retarded the drug release up to 18 hours and showed maximum of 98.45% drug release. It followed first order kinetics mechanism.</p&gt

    Self medication pattern for dandruff treatment among pharmacy students

    Dandruff is a common scalp disorder distressing almost half of inhabitants the at the pre-pubertal age and of any gender.No populace in any geographical region would have passed freely without being affected by dandruff in their life at some stage.Thinng out the skin and cause other side effects are caused by non prescription preparation (OTC),if used for a long period of time. To help keep dandruff under control, there are lots of OTC products available . To evaluate the prevalence of self medication pattern for dandruff treatment among students a 15 item web based questionnaire was developed and employed to collect data (validated by the institutional ethical committee) from pharmacy students at Ezhuthachan College of pharmaceutical sciences. The survey will gather demographic information and collect data on about the usage, type of antidandruff product,content included and side effect experienced etc.Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. 76% of the respondents had dandruff problem and among them, 67% experienced hair loss,53% had acne and 31% experienced itching and 11% experienced skin rashes due to dandruff problem. 41% of the respondents adopted self medication strategy .Out of them 45% used ketoconazole shampoo and most of them experienced hairloss due to the usage of shampoo. Prevalence of self-medication for dandruff problem was alarming high. It is necessary to educate the students for diagnosis and treatment of Dandruff problems. The relevant data obtained through this study will help know about the prevalace of the self medication pattern and to aware about future complications

    Quality of life is the expectation of the individual or society for a good life which outline both positive and negative features of life. Acquired immunodeficiency disease is caused by human retrovirus which was considered as a fat illness before the introduction of proper treatment. Symptoms of the disease include flu like illness, skin rash, sore throat, opportunistic infections, enlarged lymohnodes in necks and so on. According to Who ,since the beginning of pandemic 76 million people have been infected with hiv virus and about 33 million deaths has been reported. At the end of 2019 about 38.0 million people were living with the disease globally. Antiretroviral drugs are used for the treatment of human immune deficiency virus. The review paper was prepared by referring review and research papers from research gate, pubmed, goggle scholar, science direct and search was based on key words such as AIDS, HAART, Quality of life in Aids patients. Aids was considered as a fatal illness till the introduction of proper treatment regimen. The morbidity, mortality and disease severity was reduced to a great extent by antiretroviral drugs. Quality of life was also seen to be improved in patients. Social support has a positive impact on quality of life. Factors like depression, emotional stress, unemployment, suicidal ideation affect the quality of life in AIDS patients

    Burning mouth syndrome (stomatodynia) sensile to duloxetine-a case report

    Introduction. Burning mouth syndrome (BMS) is a chronic, idiopathic, intraoral mucosal pain condition in the absence of specific oral lesions and systemic disease. Among evidence-based pharmacological treatments for this disorder, topical and systemic clonazepam, levosulpiride, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors have been used with partial results. Case: We report a case of a 65-year-old healthy woman with a 3-year history of oral burning. Clinical and laboratory evaluations allowed us to make a diagnosis of burning mouth syndrome. She was treated with duloxetine [DLX]  (60 mg PO qd), a selective serotonin, and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, obtaining a complete remission of symptoms, evaluated via standardized clinical rating scales [BPRS], and an improvement of her quality of life and level of functioning. Discussion: The pathogenesis of BMS still remains unclear. Recently, it has been suggested an underlying neuropathic mechanism, demonstrating a dysfunction in the trigeminal nociceptive pathways at peripheral and/or central nervous system level. The rationale behind the administration of duloxetine resides in its central mechanism of action, and analgesic effects previously demonstrated in diabetic peripheral neuropathy, and fibromyalgia. Also, it has been shown to reduce painful physical symptoms associated with depression. Conclusion: We hypothesize that duloxetine might represent a useful, effective, and additional therapeutic option in the treatment of BMS

    A statistical analysis on the remission of pain and the intensity of depression in rheumatoid arthritis patients

    Rheumatoid arthritis and depression commonly occur together. Although this is known, people with rheumatoid arthritis often aren't screened for depression, so it may not be diagnosed or treated. The main aim of the work is to evaluate the remission of pain and estimate intensity of depression in rheumatoid arthritis patients. We collected 40 cases of Rheumatoid arthritis at VIRRD hospital and collected the details. By using Visual analogue scale we have estimated the pain remission and by using Beck Depression Inventory we evaluated intensity of depression. This study shows the Adults (Above 18 years) are affected more with RA than that of other age groups. This study reveals that people affected with RA are 80% of female. So that females are more affected. As chronic pain is the important symptom of RA we evaluated the remission of pain. We observed there is decrease in pain after using the medication which indicates that there is remission of pain in patients when they are on regular treatment. This study showed a strong relation between RA and subsequent risk of depression. Based on the study almost 62.5% RA patients have some level of depression. We suggest that for optimal care and better outcomes of RA patient, detection and management of depression is important as there is some level of depression in RA patient and for such patients the treatment should be based on their level

    Chronic kidney disease is a long term condition characterized by the gradual loss of kidney function at least a period of 3 months or more. About two-thirds of the cases are mainly caused due to HTN and DM. The symptom load plays a crucial role in the patient's disease experience and among the main signs of CKD are troubling physical and psychological symptoms. The evaluation of the symptom burden of CKD patients is of the utmost importance in clinical management. The risk factors include age, sex, race and ethnicity, family history, drug use, smoking, and socioeconomic status; and other comorbidities, such as hypertension and diabetes. Some risk factors can be modified and prevent or slow down the progression to ESRD. CKD progression is associated with serious complications such as cardiovascular risk, dyslipidemia, anemia, nutritional issues, and mineral and bone disorders

    Assessing role of lipid and polymer based delivery systems in inserts

    Majority of gynaecological, proctologic diseases were treated through rectal or vaginal delivery of medications, which can bypass the first pass metabolism and can produce required local effect. Inserts are evolutionary pharmaceutical dosageform that are semi solid at room temperature but upon insertion in cavities of humans, melt and release the drug localised. The inserts are advantageous since they can be placed at scare sites where blood perfusion is high that can enable for rapid absorption limiting many side effects. Ocular inserts represents the advanced technology in treating several ophthalmic diseases. Designing and development of optimum inserts is a challenge ever faced by Pharmaceutical researchers. In view of this, lipid and polymer based systems were additionally employed to improve the therapeutic efficiency of foresaid dosage forms. The review rationalises the importance of these inserts and their broad applications for multidisciplinary applications
