Kematangan Karir Mahasiswa Jurusan Tarbiyah Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam Negeri (STAIN) Samarinda
Get PDFThe objective of this study was to describe the level of career readiness of the education faculty students of STAIN Samarinda and the aspects of career readiness of the education faculty students of STAIN Samarinda. The sample of this study was 92 students of the education faculty students. The researcher used stratified random sampling in this study. The data were collected by using questionnaires. The data were analized through rating scale. The result of findings shows that the level of career readiness of the education faculty students of STAIN Samarinda was 73% with 17.156 interval or it is categorized as “Good”. It is affected by the ages of the respondents in the age of 18 – 25 years old which means they are in the sub level of transition and trial little commitment. It is also affected by the factors of interest, skill, and personality. The aspects of career readiness of the education faculty students of STAIN Samarinda are as follows: 1) Career planning is 73.12%, categorized as “Good”. It is affected by the respondents’ knowledge of workfield, interest, education, extra-curricular activities, and spare-times activities. 2) Career exploration is 68.7%, categorized as “Good”. It is affected by the respondents’ family background and social life interaction. 3) Career decision is 76.3%, categorized as “Good”. It is affected by the respondents’ social economical background. 4) Work-field information is 73.5%, categorized as “Good”. It is affected by the educational and economical background of the respondents’ parents

To improve its quality, STAIN Samarinda plans and evaluate its educational programs periodically to become an excellent distinguished higher institution in Kalimantan Timur. It is important to encourage the candidate of college students to choose STAIN Samarinda as their options to continue the study. This motivation deals with the prosperity of work, recommendation or suggestions of family and friends, perception of Arabic language program, appropriateness of interest and talents, ambitions, willingness, teachers’ qualifications, and sufficient information about the study program. This is a descriptive qualitative research design. The data were collected by using interview and documentation. The result of findings shows the students’ motivation in choosing the Arabic study program of STAIN Samarinda is to learn Arabic entuastically, fit to their ambitions, and linier to their former educational background

For trade company, the profit is set through sales minus cost of goods sold and expenses. If the business ethics is not paid ettention and also not applied in performing economics activity, a business man or business woman or who else perform economic activity will be trapped in cases of law/ norm infraction
Storybook Read-Alouds to Enhance Students’ Comprehension Skills in ESL Classrooms: A Case Study
Get PDFThe effectiveness of using storybooks during read-alouds to develop children’s comprehension skills as well as in understanding the story has been widely studied. The reading aloud strategy has also been proven through numerous researches to be the most highly recommended activity for encouraging language and literacy. The study identified the comprehension strategies used by the teachers during their read-aloud sessions, matched teachers’ current practices using the comprehension strategies to the identified practices for the approach, and obtained the teachers’ perceptions of their current practices of the comprehension strategies during reading aloud in their English language classrooms. The teachers’ comprehension strategies were matched with a research-based strategy for comprehending texts during read-alouds proposed by Whitehurst et al (1994). Three primary school English language teachers teaching in the rural schools participated in this study. Qualitative research methods were used in this study. Primary data was obtained through observations using an observation protocol; while secondary data was obtained through interviews from teachers. Findings from the study revealed that the three teachers employed a few of the comprehension strategies that were proposed by researchers in the field. The findings also indicate that the teachers utilized only the strategies that they thought were relevant to their teaching context and as such, proposed the need to provide teachers with knowledge on the best practices for conducting reading aloud to develop ESL students’ comprehension skill
Investigation of the effects of the social power and social distance on the realization of apology between Jordanian and English cultures
Get PDFThe current study investigated the influence of context-external variables; social power (High, Equal and Low) and social distance (Familiar and Unfamiliar) on the perception of Jordanian and English speech act of apology. Discourse Completion Test (DCT) and Scaled Response Questionnaire (SRQ) were used to elicit data from three groups: 40 Jordanian L2 speakers in Malaysia, 40 Jordanian non-English speakers in Malaysia and 40 English native speakers from British Council in Jordan. The three groups of respondents were asked to assess four context-internal variables i.e. the severity of the offence, the possibility of the offender apology, the difficulty of the apology by the offender and the likelihood of apology acceptance by the offended party. Results of the study were accomplished using one way ANOVA and Tukey HSD post hoc statistical tests. The findings revealed that Jordanians have high sensitivity toward hierarchical power and social distance more than English native speakers. Moreover, results revealed that there are negative sociopragmatic transfers from L1 to L2 by JL2Ss based on their four-context internal variables perception. Findings could be used to increase the cultural awareness toward some similarities and differences between both culture
