Full text linkThe article examines the evolution of textile craftsmanship in Otavalo, Ecuador, from its pre-Hispanic roots to the transformation in the 1960s. Traditionally, weaving was a family activity that employed ancestral techniques such as the backstrap loom and the cane spindle, with production oriented towards self-consumption and small surpluses for the local market. Over time, the introduction of synthetic fibers such as orlon and the mechanization of looms revolutionized the industry, displacing traditional techniques and giving rise to industrialized production. The article also explores the cultural and economic impacts of these changes, including the decline of traditional techniques and the adaptation of new methods to meet global market demand.El artículo examina la evolución de la artesanía textil en Otavalo, Ecuador, desde sus raíces prehispánicas hasta la transformación en la década de 1960. Tradicionalmente, el tejido era una actividad familiar que empleaba técnicas ancestrales como el telar de cintura y el huso de caña, con una producción orientada al autoconsumo y a pequeños excedentes para el mercado local. Con el tiempo, la introducción de fibras sintéticas como el orlón y la mecanización de los telares revolucionaron la industria, desplazando las técnicas tradicionales y dando lugar a una producción industrializada. El artículo también explora los impactos culturales y económicos de estos cambios, incluyendo la disminución de técnicas tradicionales y la adaptación de nuevos métodos para satisfacer la demanda del mercado global

Despite the traditional focus on training professionals and research, it is argued that higher education institutions must assume an active role in solving local problems. The study highlights how these universities are adapting their strategies to address rural challenges, improve quality of life and contribute to sustainable development. The importance of direct participation in the community and the integration of university extension as a key component for regional progress is emphasized.Este artículo explora el papel emergente de las universidades latinoamericanas en el desarrollo rural comunitario en un contexto de globalización y avance tecnológico. A pesar del enfoque tradicional en la formación de profesionales y la investigación, se argumenta que las instituciones de educación superior deben asumir un rol activo en la resolución de problemas locales. El estudio destaca cómo estas universidades están adaptando sus estrategias para enfrentar desafíos rurales, mejorar la calidad de vida y contribuir al desarrollo sostenible. Full text linkThis article explores creativity and aesthetics as spaces for play and resistance to the monotony of everyday life. Through reflection on the human capacity to dream and create, it is argued that creativity is not a result of formal education, but a process that is learned through living and manifests itself in the possibility of breaking with routine. It is argued that the creative act is a shortcut that allows us to reconnect with our essence and the capacity for wonder. This playful and aesthetic process is seen as an act of faith in the human capacity to build imaginative and supportive futures. The importance of recovering the childlike mentality and the sensitivity necessary to see beyond the obvious is highlighted, promoting a receptive openness to life in all its manifestations, and approaching the everyday in an extraordinary way.Este artículo explora la creatividad y la estética como espacios lúdicos y de resistencia ante la monotonía de la vida cotidiana. A través de la reflexión sobre la capacidad humana para soñar y crear, se plantea que la creatividad no es un resultado de la enseñanza formal, sino un proceso que se aprende viviendo y se manifiesta en la posibilidad de romper con la rutina. Se argumenta que el acto creativo es un atajo que nos permite reencontrarnos con nuestra esencia y con la capacidad de asombro. Este proceso lúdico y estético es visto como un acto de fe en la capacidad humana para construir futuros imaginativos y solidarios. Revisión y crítica de la terminología relacionada con la cultura Tiwanaku en el ámbito Andino
Full text linkThe plurality of concepts that, over so many years of research, have been defined to qualify different aspects of the problem of the Tiwanaku Culture and its influence in the Andean area, has become a confounding factor that hinders better knowledge and communication. of that matter. Overcoming the ambiguity of some terms and clarifying the correct meaning of others is an essential task. The presentation and discussion of the concepts is done following the sequence of their appearance in the investigations on Tiwanaku and the phenomena integrated to its problematic, on the basis of confrontations between the definitions elaborated by the different authors. It is demonstrated that the same phenomenon receives different names and, conversely, that the same concept is used with different meanings. The Expansive Tiwanaku concept and the ambiguity that its use implies today is discussed, depending on whether we consider Tiwanaku only expansive or starting from its phase V, or I from its phase IV, as the latest research seems to show. The expression residual Tiwanaku influences is proposed to define that "common cultural factor" evident in late cultures, in a post-Tiwanaku time, product of the period of direct Tiwanaku influences.La pluralidad de conceptos que, a lo largo de tantos años de investigadón han sido definidos para calificar distintos aspectos del problema de la Cultura Tiwanaku y su influencia en el ámbito andino, se ha convertido en un factor de confusión que obstaculiza el mejor conocimiento y comunicación de esa materia. Superar la ambigüedad de algunos términos y hacer claridad acerca del correcto significado de otros es tarea imprescindible. La presentación y discusión de los conceptos se hace siguiendo la secuencia de su aparición en las investigaciones sobre Tiwanaku y los fenómenos integrados a su problemática, sobre lo base de confrontaciones entre las definiciones elaboradas por los diversos autores. Quedo demostra.do que un mismo fenómeno recibe diferentes denominaciones y, a la inversa, que un mismo concepto es utilizado con distintos significados. Se discute el concepto Tiwanaku Expansivo y la ambigüedad que implica hoy su uso, según si consideramos expansivo a Tiwanaku sólo o partir de su fase V, o yo desde su fase IV, como parecen demostrarlo los últimos investigaciones. Se propone la expresión influencias residuales de Tiwanaku para definir a aquel "factor cultural común" evidente en las culturas tardias, en un tiempo post-Tiwanaku, producto del período de influencias directas de Tiwanak
