Analysis of the Impact of New Digital Infrastructure Construction on the Urban-Rural Income Gap: A Mediation Perspective Based on Agricultural Industrial Agglomeration
Narrowing the urban-rural income gap is an essential requirement and a crucial focus for achieving common prosperity. Based on panel data samples from 30 Chinese provinces (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and Tibet) from 2014 to 2023, this study empirically examines the impact effects, mechanisms, and heterogeneity of new digital infrastructure on the urban-rural income gap using a two-way fixed effects model. The findings indicate that, overall, the construction of new digital infrastructure widens the urban-rural income gap, a result which holds under a series of robustness checks. Examining sub-samples by region across the country reveals that the widening effect of new digital infrastructure on the urban-rural income gap is concentrated in the less developed central and western regions, with no significant impact observed in economically developed regions. Further analysis demonstrates that new digital infrastructure indirectly narrows the urban-rural income gap through the mediating mechanism of agricultural industrial agglomeration
Measuring Spending Efficiency: An Alternative Performance Metric for Performance-Based Budgeting (PBB)?
Performance information is a crucial component of performance-based budgeting (PBB). Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), a mathematical program originally developed to assess spending efficiency in public programs, aligns well with PBB for two primary reasons: (1) PBB aims to connect a government’s budget level with its targeted service outcomes, and (2) DEA assesses spending efficiency based on input (or budget level) and output (or public service outcomes). The aims of this paper are to calculate the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) spending efficiency scores of the world’s central governments and to determine whether the DEA results are conceptually related to the other types of performance information. For the first research purpose, we use 94 countries’ central government spending and service outcome data to calculate their DEA spending efficiency in three service functions: education, health, and transportation infrastructure. For the second research purpose, we further find that spending efficiency results relate to the other two types of performance information, i.e., the citizen satisfaction survey and the country’s budgeting practice evaluation results. As the countries achieve spending efficiency, their citizen satisfaction survey results increase. As the countries’ budget transparency and public engagement indexes increase, their spending efficiency increases. These results suggest that spending efficiency can be effectively used alongside other types of performance information within PBB, particularly for making internal budgetary decisions and management
Comparative Environmental Effects of Lithium, Nickel, Lead, and Zinc-based Battery Waste on Seed Germination and Early Plant Growth
Batteries serve as crucial components of modern life yet they create major environmental risks when people dispose of them incorrectly. The heavy metals like lithium, nickel and lead present in batteries can escape into soil and water bodies which damages plant ecosystems and causes harm to vegetation. This study examines the effects of four battery-derived metals, lithium, nickel, lead, and zinc, on plant development and seed starting processes. Cauliflower plants and spinach seeds were used as test subjects and exposed to controlled concentrations of each metal compound through four weeks. The study demonstrated that lithium and nickel exposure resulted in complete plant death and complete seed germination failure. The plant growth was severely limited by lead exposure which also blocked seed germination, but zinc exposure produced no adverse effects on plant health and enhanced seed germination rates above control levels. The research demonstrates that proper battery disposal methods require specific approaches based on battery chemical composition. Specialized recycling facilities should process lithium-ion batteries and nickel-metal hydride batteries and lead-acid batteries, but alkaline and zinc-carbon batteries can go to general waste disposal when handled correctly
Exploration of Financial Management Innovation of Chemical Enterprises Under the Perspective of New Quality Productivity
The emergence of global industrial transformation brings about a new quality productivity that is driven by digitalization, greening and high-end production; and thus its role is to change the logic of value creation in the chemical industry. Due to the asset-heavy, high-energy-consuming, and long-cycle characteristics of chemical enterprises, their financial management has structural issues. For example, when it comes to the lack of flexibility of cost control, the absence of environmentally-friendly cost accounting; or lack of timeliness in risk response. A typical chemical enterprise financial management does not have the capacity to respond efficiently to the constantly shifting market landscapes and carbon emissions costs; and, the operational capacity to support enterprises and achieve agile decisions. Today, some of the leading chemical enterprises are starting to try out themes such as smart financial center and carbon asset accounting models. However, the chemical industry too faces systemic issues of data loneliness and incoherent technological applications. The breakthrough at the center of this financial change, instigated by new productivity, is to break free from the limitations of traditional “accounting” and build an ecosystem that has the ability to create value. This could lead to the decisive pursuit of enterprises' existence and development in the low-carbon economy
A Study on the Economic Interdependence Between Jiangmen and Other Cities in the Pearl River Delta Urban Agglomeration
This study takes the Pearl River Delta Urban Agglomeration in 2023 as its research sample, employing principal component analysis to measure economic quality. The indicators used to assess economic quality include economic development level, economic structure, population and logistics, and degree of openness. By constructing a modified gravity model, the study analyzes the economic interdependence between Jiangmen and other cities in the Pearl River Delta Urban Agglomeration. Jiangmen ranks highest in terms of economic ties with Shenzhen, followed by Guangzhou, while their economic connections with other cities are relatively weak. Based on an analysis of the current state of economic interdependence between Jiangmen and other cities in the Pearl River Delta Urban Agglomeration, together with its existing issues, several policy recommendations are proposed
Research on Green Finance Promoting the Development of Low-Carbon Economy
Against the backdrop of global climate change and China's "dual carbon" goals, this study systematically explores the theoretical foundations, practical status, and operational mechanisms of green finance in promoting low-carbon economic development. It is revealed that green finance influences low-carbon transformation through multiple pathways, including capital orientation, risk management, technological innovation incentives, and policy synergy. However, challenges such as fragmented policy regulation, imbalanced market capital allocation, technological and data bottlenecks, and insufficient cross-regional coordination are identified. Drawing on international experiences, the research proposes optimization strategies focusing on policy integration, market mechanism activation, technological empowerment, and regional collaboration, offering theoretical and practical insights for deepening the integration of green finance and low-carbon economy
Scientific Econometric Analysis of Cultural Heritage Digitization in the Past Five Years: Based on CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and SciMAT
This article aims to systematically review and analyze the research laws, key technological elements, and cutting-edge development trends in the field of digitalization of cultural heritage, laying a theoretical foundation for future research plans and providing reference for promoting further development in this field. Using bibliometrics and CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and SciMAT software based on the Web of Science database, a qualitative and quantitative analysis was conducted on the digital literature knowledge graph of cultural heritage from 2020 to 2024. The results obtained econometric maps from macro to micro perspectives, combined with background information, current trends, and knowledge structure analysis of spatiotemporal, co word, clustering, theme evolution, and other charts, exploring the evolution of this field from various angles. The digitization of cultural heritage has gradually developed from the initial stage to a new stage of global cooperation and policy application. The characteristic of this transitional process is that the research focus gradually shifts from the attention to culture itself to the application of technological means, and ultimately expands to the display and dissemination of cultural heritage. This article also summarizes several development trends in this field, including integration, proceduralization, technologicalization, standardization, intelligence, etc., while also exploring the current limiting factors
Impact of the Real Estate Climate Index on the Non-performing Loan Ratio of Commercial Banks
The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China emphasized the imperative to enhance the financial stability safeguard system. Given the pivotal role of commercial banks in China’s financial architecture, effectively managing their non-performing loan ratio proves crucial for sustaining financial and economic stability. This study uses panel data from 2007 to 2022 for empirical analysis. It explores the significant positive link between the real estate climate index and the non - performing loan ratio of commercial banks, showing that the real estate boom worsens systemic credit risk.Heterogeneity analysis reveals this effect manifests more prominently in state-owned commercial banks. Furthermore, capital regulation has a mitigating effect on the positive relationship between the index and the ratio of non-performing loans.These empirical findings highlight the importance of targeted regulatory measures and enhanced real estate market monitoring, providing theoretical and policy insights for optimizing financial risk governance frameworks
A Study on the Relationship between Camping Motivation, Attitude, and Behavioral Intention
This article uses 317 survey data of camping tourists to construct a structural equation model to test the impact mechanism of camping motivation on tourism attitudes and behavioral intentions, it tests the moderating role of psychological privilege on the relationship between camping motivation and tourism attitudes. Results indicate that, camping motivations, relaxation, social interaction, and enhancing self-worth, have significant positive impact on tourism attitudes, and the degree of impact decreases in order;The learning practice in camping motivation has a significant negative impact on tourism attitudes;Tourism attitude mediates the relationship between camping motivation and behavioral intention;Psychological privilege has a significant negative moderating effect on the path from relaxation and leisure motivation to tourism attitude
