CL 177/INF/3 WA1 - The Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme Kampala Declaration – Strategy and Action Plan 2026-2035: A New Impetus for FAO’s support in Africa
Evaluation highlights
The Global Network Against Food Crises Partnership Programme (GNAFC) ran from 2018 to 2022 to address the root causes of food crises and improve global coordination in tackling hunger and vulnerability. The programme was designed around three components: improving analytical tools, generating evidence-based knowledge of resilience solutions, and fostering coordinated responses across the humanitarian-development-peace (HDP) nexus. The initiative built on prior European Union-funded investments such as the INFORMED Programme and aligned with FAO’s strategic goals under SDG 2 (Zero Hunger). With a budget exceeding EUR 70 million, the programme sought to address complex food crises through both global and country-level interventions

Enhancing Capacity to Respond and Manage the Risk of Epizootic Ulcerative Syndrome (EUS) in Malawi - TCP/MLW/3804
The project focused on safeguarding the ecosystems of the Bua River and Lake Malawi, which host various fish species, including the endangered Opsaridium microlepis. By controlling the spread of EUS, the project helped preserve the health and genetic diversity of wild fish populations, crucial for the sustainability of Malawi’s aquatic resources. The project also had a significant economic impact, benefiting over 1.6 million people who depended on the fisheries sector for their livelihoods. This included not only fishers but also individuals involved in fish processing, marketing, and related activities. By managing the outbreak, the project mitigated potential income losses caused by fish stock declines, ensuring that rural communities, particularly those near lakes, maintained viable economic opportunities

This comprehensive guide accompanies the Learning Journey in Rwanda, known as the 'Land of a Thousand Hills' where the economy heavily relies on agriculture. This document presents a detailed look into Farmer Field Schools (FFS) established through the ACP MEAs 3 programme, highlighting innovative farmer initiatives and success stories. Within these pages, you will discover the outcomes of FFS trials with ecosystem-based practices, such as integrated pest management, biofertilizer and biopesticide application, mulching, and the restoration of local seed varieties. It also includes testimonies from farmers who have benefited from the FFS programme. This publication is a valuable reference for Rwanda's achievements under the ACP MEAs 3 programme and a case study for future similar projects
Analysis of the seed landscape in Senegal
