Exploring Possibilties for a Right against Destruction for Architects
The courts and legal frameworks across the globe have not been unanimous as to whether the right against destruction should be a moral right or not for artists in general and for architects in particular. Both common law and civil law countries have been non-committal and lack uniformity in their approach in this regard. The right against destruction has been distinguished from other rights on the premise that there is no loss/detriment caused to the artist by the destruction of the creation. Despite its beneficent presence in the Copyright Act, 1957 the recent denial of moral rights against destruction to architects in the buildings envisioned and realised by them by the Delhi High Court needs a sound diagnosis and correction as it could have a cascading effect. In this, it deviates from a former ruling of the same (Delhi high court) court without making a substantial reference to it. It raises the issue of whether the basis for anti-destructive sentiment can be placed on the plank of public interest in the preservation of artistic works rather than on personality rights upon which the right to integrity is anchored. An assessment of these contexts will be useful to identify the limits on the right to destroy property particularly intellectual property in architecture
Understanding the Underlying Causes of Corruption and their Implications on Sustainable Service Delivery in Limpopo Province, South Africa
This study intends to understand the underlying causes of corruption and their implications on sustainable service delivery in Limpopo Province, South Africa. Corruption threatens democracy and undermines the provisions of the Constitution. Corrupt practices negatively impacts basic services, such as clean water, sanitation, electricity, and employment opportunities. The study uses a qualitative research methodology and the New Public Management (NPM) paradigm to understand the causes of corruption, governance challenges, and poor service delivery. It is found that there is a negative relationship between corruption, governance issues, and sustainable service delivery. The findings suggest that South African municipalities need skilled personnel, oversight, watchdog mechanisms, independent institutions, internal audit, whistleblower protection, and media empowerment to combat corruption and poor governance. Municipalities should adopt e-municipalities (information communication technology) to provide efficient, effective, and sustainable services and further preserve correct financial records
The bubbling Milky Way: An overview of infrared bubbles in our galaxy
Infrared bubbles are cavity-like structures formed around OB-type star(s) or star clusters. They are detected primarily at mid-infrared wavelengths. They usually enclose ionized gas and hot dust, composed of very small grains. A combination of thermal pressure of the expanding HIIregion, powerful stellar winds, and radiation pressure associated with massive stars contribute to the formation of a bubble. Expanding bubbles could trigger star formation, either via the collect and collapse process or radiatively driven implosion. This can further provide a pathway for understanding the aspects related to triggered star formation. This article provides a brief overview on infrared bubbles, their association with the HIIregion,the massive and young stellar objects they enclose, and the mechanisms of triggered star formation when they expand to the interstellar medium. As a representative example, we present a multiwavelength investigation of the northern infrared bubble CN71. The physical environment of the bubble CN71 is investigated using Spitzer data. We have detected 29 Class I/II YSOs and 459 Class III YSOs by NIR-MIR photometric analysis. We have also detected the presence of 5 OB-type stars within the bubble boundary. Using the Gaia EDR3, we estimated the distance to the bubble to be 1.6 kpc. Our preliminary analysis suggests that CN71 shows the signature of triggered star formation
Analysing Moderating Effects of Demographic Variables on Customer Satisfaction: A Study of Quick Service Restaurant
Customers' perceptions of service quality are essential for service companies' survival in today’s challenging business environment. While much research has been conducted on service quality, relatively few have examined how demographic variables influence the connection between the quality of service and price on customer satisfaction in the fast-food outlets or what is now known as Quick Service Restaurant (QSR). The present study attempts to gain a deeper insight into the association of Customer Satisfaction (CS) with Service Quality (SQ) and Pricing (value). Simultaneously, the current study also explores how the demographic variables moderate the relationship between the constructs described above.
It is a quantitative research that used a standardized, self-administered online questionnaire and a random sample technique to collect data from 360 customers of QSR in India. SPSS and Smart PLS were used to analyze the data obtained. Smart PLS was used to ascertain the impact of price and SQ on CS and the effect of moderating variables.
The finding suggests that both price and SQ have a positive and significant relation with CS. The demographic variables moderate the relationship between price and customer satisfaction; however, only income moderates the relationship between SQ and CS. These results suggest that restaurant QSR managers/owners should strengthen Service Quality to enhance Customer Satisfaction. Hence, the manager/owner should provide value for money and quality service to their customer to satisfy them
A Study of the MICE Tourism Industry's Workforce and the Variables Influencing Customer Relationship Management
MICE tourism, also known as meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions, is a sizable segment of the travel industry. MICE tourism brings in revenue for the host country. The Indian MICE industry, however, is unable to receive the entire revenue from MICE activities, which has a negative impact on the growth of the country. Consequently, the research's primary focus was on the factors affecting the Indian MICE Tourism Industry through CRM features. As a result, a review of the literature and online polls were conducted to analyse the problem domain from the viewpoint of an industry expert. A sample of 110 was collected during this survey. The major findings of this study are derived with the help of hypotheses testing, correlation and regression techniques were used which were supported by the survey questionnaires. The study reveals the importance of MICE tourism in terms of building the nation's infrastructure to entice and accommodate more MICE tourists
Survey on Feature Selection for Data Mining and its Application in Opinion Mining
Sentiment Analysis (SA) and opinion mining is used for the systems of business intelligence in analyzing public opinion towards various brands and implementing market strategies. Machine learning aims at developing the algorithm in such a way that the performance of a system is optimized with past data or experience. In the case of SA, the feature selection method is used for the identification of different goals such as reduction of cost of computation, avoidance of over-fitting, and enhancing the accuracy of classification of the model. The methods of feature selection can reduce their original feature sets by the removal of irrelevant features for the classification of text sentiment and their accuracy. The paper surveys various feature selection techniques available in the literature. The study shows that feature selection significantly improves the classification of the sentiments, but it depends on the technique adopted and the number of features selected.
Creation and Origin Myths and Legends of the Rongmei (Kabui)
Many societies and cultures have their own myths and legends of origin or creation which explain how the world came to be and that they considered them to be true accounts of their distant past. Likewise, Rongmei tribe is also rich in myths, legends, folktales, folksongs, etc. which were orally passes down through generations to generations. There are no forms of any written literatures and therefore the Rongmei tribes, like most of the other tribes, depends on the orally passed down stories or myths to give account for their ancient past. The paper is an attempt to explore some of the cosmogony, etiological and historical myths and legends of the origin and creation of the Rongmeis. The sources of this paper are based on both primary and secondary sources available and also from interviewing with some elders of Rongmei villages
Solution of Homogeneous Linear Fractional Differential Equations Involving Conformable Fractional Derivative
In this paper, we have found the solution of linear sequential fractional differential equations involving conformable fractional derivatives of order with constant coefficients. For this purpose, we first discussed fundamental properties of the conformable derivative and then obtained successive conformable derivatives of the fractional exponential function. After this, we determined the analytic solution of linear sequential fractional differential equations (L.S.F.D.E.) in terms of a fractional exponential function. We have demonstrated this developed method with a few examples of homogeneous linear fractional differential equations. This method gives a conjugation with the method to solve classical linear differential equations with constant coefficients
Interference and Diffraction of Quantum Particles Revisited
Interference and diffraction phenomena are the basic properties shown by waves. De-Broglie concept of matter waves brought in the extended version of wave properties of material particles. Wave properties of quantum particles are important to understand various phenomena in physics. Matter waves are a core part of quantum theory. Now wave-particle duality is exploited for many applications such as imaging microscopic particles using electron microscopes etc. Here we deduce the interference and diffraction of quantum particles on the basis of the propagation amplitude according to the path integral formulation of quantum mechanics. The intensity distribution due to interference and diffraction of quantum particles are compared with those obtained from the formal methods. The results agree with the traditional approach assuming a deBroglie wave associated with particles
How Ethical is the Colonisation of Current Decolonisation Debates in the Academia?
This is the fourth year of my exploration of studies and readings on the process known as decolonisation. When I reflect on this journey, several instances have reminded that there is a semblance of a journey (movement) in the discourse of decolonisation, although things are largely static.
From the perspective of the Global South, I observe that all major grant makers and investors are located in the Global North. The Global North also houses important knowledge-certifying institutions and significant universities that receive research grants to study the Global South. Furthermore, Institutional Review Boards in the Global North define and mainstream ethics derived from their own cultural sensibilities. These factors contribute to the dominant influence of colonisation, which can be seen as clouds roaring from the top and affecting the Global South
