Justice Still Eludes Indian Women in the 21st Century
For anyone who has been keeping track of the legal developments in the United States of America, one of the issues of greatest concern is the overturning of Roe v. Wade[1] and with it, all the gains made by the feminist movement regarding Women’s Reproductive Rights and more importantly women’s right to their bodies. On the other hand, in India, there have been so many more issues, from Muslim women’s struggle against triple talaq in one sitting[2], to the need for a Uniform Civil Code, to criminalising rape in the context of marriage[3], laws to regulate surrogacy[4] etc., that have caused concern, but not the right to abortion as in the US.[5] One of the positive legal developments is the 106th Amendment Act, passed as recently as 29th September 202
Case Comment: Yagnaseni Patel v. The General Manager, Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. & Ors. 2023 LiveLaw (Ori) 76
This case commentary analyses the legal issue involved in the case of Yagnaseni Patel v. The General Manager, Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. According to the Orissa High Court, the daughter has a claim to the father's property, the right is conferred at birth and the provisions respecting the rights apply on and from the date of the Amendment Act, 2005. The High Court stated that even though her father died before the 2005 Amendment, the daughter had a right. The Bench cited the case of Vineeta Sharma v. Rakesh Sharma and Others 2020 (II) OLR (SC) 569: (2020) 9 SCC 1 in which the Apex Court held that a daughter shall remain as coparcener throughout life, regardless of whether her father was alive when the law was amended in 2005 or not, emphasizing that the law is retrospective.

Transforming Health Management HelenHands for Sensory Impairment Accessibility
HelenHands, an Android application Tool, offers a range of features, including the Virtual White Cane for spatial awareness, Let's Chat for real-time sign language translation, SOS Reach for emergency assistance, and the Wellness Aware-Enabler for promoting proactive health behaviours. We outline a step-by-step illustration of the stage-wise breakdown given in the approach. In summary, our process includes six stages, each focusing on the mechanism andinteraction of a particular tool. The results of the machine learning models were also promising, particularly concerning the Let's Chat ministry and the translation of fingerspelled characters to their text equivalent in real-time. The outcomes of this research show progress in the use of technology to increase accessibility and improve user experiences in populations with diverse needs. This paper on HelenHands, is a part of how technology can be another factor in enhancing diversity and inclusion in digital contexts
Optimisation Study of Efficiency of Ionic Liquids as Catalyst for Hydrolysis of Waste Nylon-66
With the increasing rate of production and usage of nylon-66, the environmental effect of plastics is a global concern. The widespread and careless use and disposal of these non-biodegradable materials has severely disrupted the environment and its biodiversity. To overcome these problems, ionic liquids have shown efficient potential as catalysts for hydrolysis waste nylon-66 into dibenzoyl derivatives of hexamethylenediamine (DBHMD) and adipic acid. Ionic liquids [emim]BF4, [bmim]BF4, and [bmim]PF6 successfully catalysed the hydrolysis of waste nylon-66 at different extents. 1.9 g (.1 mol) of [emim]BF4 has shown the maximum catalytic efficiency during hydrolysis of nylon-66 at 120 °C for five hours. In comparison, 2.3 g (.1 mol) of [bmim]BF4 and 2.8 g (.1 mol) of [bmim]PF6 showed the maximum catalytic properties at 120 °C for seven and nine hours, respectively. However, the hydrophilic nature of IL [emim]BF4 has shown more efficiency as a catalyst in the hydrolysis of waste nylon-66
Physico-Chemical Assessment of Drinking Water of Coastal Area of Vizhinjam During Pre and Post Monsoon Seasons
The construction of a seaport at Vizhinjam in Trivandrum has evoked talks about possible environmental repercussions in the region. The present study is an attempt to analyze the physicochemical assessment of drinking water quality of different stations near the construction site of Vizhinjam port. It was evaluated during pre and post-monsoon seasons. Temperature, pH, TDS, EC, DO, total alkalinity, T-H, Ca-H, Mg-H and Cl2 levels were analyzed. The study shows variation of temperature between 25 °C and 27 °C. pH varied between 6.7 and 7.4. The present study is significant for public hygiene in the public interest. Most parameters that were studied were found to be within approved BIS levels and showed drinkability.
DNA Barcoding of Fish Fauna using Mitochondrial CO1 Gene
This study aimed to investigate the quantitative relationships between four fish species from three genera based on molecular analyses (barcoding) of nine species from five genera utilizing the mitochondrial COI gene. Species within the same genus showed more transitional incompatibilities than transversional mismatches. The samples were divided into four main groups by a phylogenetic tree built from the sequencing data (cytochrome COI) of samples from the two populations using the neighbour-joining method. As dissimilar species were clustered under separate nodes and similar species were clustered under the same nodes, the neighbour-joining tree revealed various clusters corresponding to the taxonomic status of the species. In conclusion, the mitochondrial CO1 gene is a useful molecular marker for DNA barcoding.
The Need and Importance of Augmented AI/ML systems for Health Claims Fraud Detection
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine learning (ML) systems are increasingly being used to solve basic day-to-day problems. Chatbots such as Alexa and Siri play a big role in our day-to-day life with our reliance on these systems increasing by the day. The use of AI and ML systems is being increasingly explored, in fraud detection. particularly for the detection of fraud health insurance claims submitted by providers. Recently, several studies have leveraged AI/ML techniques to develop health claims fraud detection models with close to 100% accuracy rates.
This paper looks at the limitations of the deep learning-based AI and ML models in the case of health claims fraud detection, and the associated challenges and implications. We then define an integrated AI/ML strategy augmented by human intelligence for comprehensive fraud control to address the challenges and fraud detection using AI/ML responsibly without impacting the patient experience and health outcomes
A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis: Comparative Analysis of Psychotherapy and Pharmacotherapy for Treatment of Depression
Depression represents a significant health issue that can develop into a severe medical condition, especially when it recurs and manifests at moderate to severe levels of intensity. To identify the most effective treatment for depression, a rigorous study was conducted. The study used grid Hamilton Depression Rating Score (HAMD) scores to assess treatment efficacy and employed R software and MedCalc software to conduct a meta-analysis comparing the effectiveness of pharmacotherapy or psychotherapy or the combination of both. After eliminating duplicates, 280 papers were meticulously reviewed, and standardized mean differences and 95% confidence intervals were compared using a random effect model. The study found that combination therapy (combo-therapy) was more effective in reducing the HAMD than conventional monotherapy. These findings underscore the importance of identifying optimal treatment strategies for individuals suffering from depression.
