Kinetic Studies of Redox reaction between L-tryptophan and oxo-bridged diiron(III,III) complex ion [Fe2(μ-O)(phen)4(H2O)2]4+

    No full text
The title di-iron complex [FeIII2(μ-O)(phen)4(H2O)2]4+(1) (phen= 1,10-phenanthroline) acts a  dibasic acid in aqueous media. However, at pH below 1.6, the amounts of its conjugate bases [FeIII2(μ-O)(phen)4(H2O)(OH)]3+(1a) and [FeIII2(μ-O)(phen)4(OH)2]2+(1b) are negligible (pKa1= 3.71 ± 0.03, pKa2= 5.28 ± 0.07).  In aqueous acidic solutions (pH £1.6), complex 1 is reduced by L-tryptophan to produce [Fe(phen)3]2+ in the presence of externally added phen, following simple first order kinetics. However, at room temperature, the reaction is very slow. With 10 mM tryptophan the reaction takes more than 6 hours to complete. The method of initial rate is used to study the kinetics. The observed rate constants show first-order dependence on the concentrations of both the redox partners. In the pH range of this study, (0.36-1.60) the observed inverse dependence of rate on [H+] is attributed to the fact that the singly deprotonated form of the amino acid is the active reductant

Intersections of Philosophy and Social Science: Exploring their Inextricable Relationship

    No full text
This paper seeks to reassess the significance of philosophical inquiry, which, despite its historical importance, often remains marginalised in contemporary discussions. The relationship between philosophy and social science is symbiotic and mutually enriching. Philosophy provides the theoretical foundations, critical perspectives, and conceptual tools that inform social scientific inquiry, while social science research offers empirical data and real-world contexts that challenge and refine philosophical theories. This dynamic interaction contributes to a deeper understanding of human society and enriches both fields of study. To begin, let us delve into the etymological origins of the word "Philosophy". Etymologically, "philosophy" is derived from the Greek words 'Philein', meaning "to love", and 'Sophia', meaning "knowledge" or "wisdom". The Greeks believed that anyone seeking knowledge in any area could be considered a philosopher, as philosophy once encompassed nearly all forms of knowledge.[i] Despite the inherent value invested in philosophy, it has not received adequate recognition to justify its importance in contemporary discourse. It often faces the burden of constant justification, particularly within academic contexts, including social science studies. This raises questions about the role and subject matter of philosophy.Philosophy, as a subject, engages in critical inquiry into fundamental questions about existence, knowledge, ethics, and society. Its methodology requires ongoing justification within academic discourse, especially within the realm of social science studies. This paper aims to address some of these morally problematic questions and argue for the immense significance of philosophical inquiry in enhancing social science research. The objective of this paper is to highlight key insights that a philosophical examination of the social sciences can offer. By doing so, it aims to underscore the pivotal role of philosophical inquiry in advancing our understanding of human society and advocating for its integration into social science studies. A philosophical approach can critically assess the assumptions, methodologies, and ethical implications inherent in social science research, leading to more robust and reflective scholarship. For instance, philosophical analysis can challenge biases in sociological theories, offer deeper insights into ethical issues in psychological research, and question the epistemological foundations of anthropological studies. By incorporating philosophical inquiry, social scientists can attain a more nuanced and comprehensive understanding of human behavior and social structures, ultimately fostering a more ethical and reflective practice. This paper, therefore, argues for a closer integration of philosophical perspectives into social science disciplines to enhance their theoretical and practical contributions to understanding and improving human society

    No full text
With an emphasis on important elements including timeliness, cleanliness, ticketing effectiveness, security, price, accessibility, and general convenience, this study investigates commuter satisfaction with metro systems. The majority of commuters value the metro's dependability, effectiveness, and affordability, according to the study's findings, which are based on a poll of metro users. The respondents were pleased with the cleanliness of the station and felt that the ticketing process was simple. The necessity for real-time service updates, accessibility for individuals with impairments, and last-mile connectivity are among the issues that still exist. Some commuters want improved interaction with other public transportation networks, even though the fares are thought to be fair. Additionally, station infrastructure, seating availability, and security need to be improved. Many respondents are hopeful about the future of metro services, expecting improvements and expansions in spite of these problems. The study emphasizes how crucial it is to make ongoing investments in accessibility, technology, and infrastructure in order to raise user happiness and encourage sustainable urban mobility. Metro systems are crucial for effective and sustainable urban growth because they may encourage more people to use public transportation, lessen traffic, and have less environmental impact

God and religion in mental health recovery: Perspectives of people with Schizophrenia and their family members, and mental health professionals in India and Australia

    Get PDF
Beliefs in god and religion and associated practices were related to recovery outcomes for people with mental illnesses like Schizophrenia. Treatment programs for people with mental health issues must understand their orientation to god and religion. This paper reports a thematic analysis of individual in-depth interviews that explored the participants' experiences and opinions regarding the role of god and religion in the recovery of people with Schizophrenia. The study involved 120 participants made up of people with Schizophrenia (PwS), their caregiving family members and mental health professionals living in India and Australia, the former predominantly Hindu and the latter predominantly Christian. Four themes emerged from the analysis. Two themes described the beneficial effects, and one related to the lack of relevance and harmful effects of god and religion on recovery. The fourth theme discussed the role of god, religious institutions, and the risks and benefits of religious or faith healing in the treatment. These themes featured the statements of participants from both countries. The Indian participants, in particular, discussed a model of care called the Dava (Medicines)-Dua (Prayer), where medical treatment is provided at the religious healing centres in an environment that facilitates the consumer's beliefs and practices related to god and religion. Such a collaborative model of care will provide a safe and effective culturally sensitive model of care, especially for people who have limited access to mental health services

This study presents a comprehensive theoretical analysis of the coumarin derivatives 1-(4-Methoxy-phenoxymethyl)-benzo[f]chromen-3-one (4MPBCO) and 6-Methoxy-4-(4-methoxy-phenoxymethyl)-chromen-2-one (6M4MPC) using density functional theory (DFT). The various molecular properties of these molecules are explored through the examination of geometrical parameters, frontier molecular orbitals (FMO), molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) maps and natural bonding orbitals (NBO). The HOMO-LUMO energies were calculated to assess the suitability of these molecules for dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) applications. In addition, the non-linear optical (NLO) parameters were evaluated to determine their potential for NLO applications. Furthermore, the physicochemical and ADMET properties were computed to examine the molecule's suitability for pharmacokinetic applications
