From Battlefield to Boardroom: The Gita’s Guide to Effective Management
The contemporary management theory increasingly borrows from ancient wisdom to address the current complexity and moral dilemmas in organizations. This study systematically examines the Bhagavad Gita's contribution to management practice in present-day scenarios, fostering a holistic management theory integrating ancient wisdom with modern organizational necessity. The study uses a hermeneutical research method to uncover nine interrelated management principles articulated in the philosophical discourse of the Gita: Karma Philosophy (process-oriented action devoid of attachment to outcome), Leadership by Service (servant leadership), Decision-Making by Wisdom (buddhi-yoga enabling ethical decision-making), Emotional Intelligence and Mental Toughness (sthitaprajna enabling balanced leadership), Organizational Behaviour and Team Management (swadharma role alignment), ethics and Corporate Governance (integrity through dharma), Strategic Thinking and Vision (equanimous long-term planning), Change Management (acceptance of impermanence), and Conflict Resolution and Communication (dialogue and mediation through principled approaches). Comprehensively breaking the barriers of disciplines, Krishna guided Arjuna so as to provide teachings relevant to a modern manager facing predicaments of leadership, motivation, and ethics. In stark contrast with traditional management models that rely on quantitative measures and short-term benefits, the Gita provides a holistic framework that emphasizes inner transformation, emotional intelligence, and value-based leadership. The study observes that this ancient philosophy, where organizations not only create structures that are effective but justice-driven cultures that endure through time
Need for a Circular Economy to Manage E-Waste: An Analysis of Indian Legal Regime
As per the Global E-waste Report 2020, approximately 53.6 million metric tonnes of E-waste were generated globally in 2019, which is expected to exceed 74 Mt by 2030. Asia ranks in first place for the quantity of e-waste generated in 2019, followed by the American, European, and African continents. At the global level, India has moved from fifth to third in generating e-waste. To address this issue India has launched various programs, including policy regulations for environmental protection. The Electronic Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2011 was one such great move to manage e-waste scientifically, and the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022 replaced the old Rules. In this context, this study tries to examine the importance of scientific e-waste management strategies, basic regulatory standards adopted by other countries, and a critical review of the laws existing in India. The study finds that, though India revised the E-waste Management Rules recently, it failed to incorporate various fundamental concepts like circular economy, reverse logistics, right to repair, and incentives for consumers and producers to properly manage e-waste. The paper also aims to give a comparative analysis of E-Waste (Management) Rules 2016 and 2022. On the basis of the research, the paper recommends adopting a more comprehensive approach where all stakeholders, including the informal sector dealers and dismantlers are identified and responsibilities are assigned to them. A regulatory shift towards upstream e-waste management is also recommended for developing ecologically sustainable EEE electrical or electronic equipment for the future
Re-contextualizing Mindfulness Meditation: Integrating Traditional Buddhist and Contemporary Approaches to Healing and Well-Being
Mindfulness mediation has become increasingly popular in the west as an intervention for a number of medical and emotional disorders. From its onset it has been presented as a secular form of Buddhist meditation in order to widen its accessibility. Within the Buddhist spiritual tradition mindfulness is considered as one of the several key practices that are deemed to be integral to the cesssation of suffering and psychic pain, and the cultivation of unconditional emotional health and well-being, sometimes termed nirvana or enlightenment. This article argues that modern mindfulness mediation mayh show more robust clinical outcomes and benefits if it is re-contexualized by integrating the key elements of the Buddhist path of well-being, each of which addresses different aspects of human functioning and which holistically can profoundly transform the personality
Magnitude and Determinants of Indebtedness Among Farmers in Punjab
The primary objective of this research paper is to check the position of farmers due to the problem of the agrarian crisis that exists in India as well as Punjab. A recent report presented in the Lok Sabha indicated that farmers from Punjab have the highest outstanding loans among northern states, amounting to Rs 1 04,064 crore. To know the exact situation of debt being taken by the farmers, the magnitude and severity of debt have been measured in three different zones of Punjab. The severity of indebtedness was mounting among farmers in the southwestern zone, which mostly produce cotton. As the magnitude of debt on marginal and small farmers increases, they are viciously trapped under it, which further leads to farmer suicide. The other objective of this paper deals with the determinants of indebtedness, which are leading them to critical situations. These factors are responsible for the mounting debt on these cultivators. So increasing indebtedness, crop failure, loss of livelihood, and farmer suicide further indicate the multidimensional nature of agrarian distress, so the government should help the aggrieved farmers by making policies in favour of them
Study of chaos in Rayleigh-Benard convection of water-alumina nanofluid with heat source sink
Study of chaos in Rayleigh-Benard convection of a water-alumina nanofluid with internal heat source/sink is considered in the paper.A generalized Buongiorno two-phase model is used for the formulation of the problem under the assumption of Boussinesque approximation and small-scale convective motion. By considering a minimal-mode Fourier representation, we arrive at the penta-model generalized Lorenz model. The largest lyapunov exponent and the Kaplan-Yorke dimension are used to capture commencement of chaos, windows of chaotic motion and periodic orbits. Inhibition/suppression of chaos due to the presence of nanoparticles and heat source/sink are discussed. Study on linear stability analysis is made for completeness
In Vitro Study on Cytotoxic and Apoptotic Property of Chrysopogon zizaniodes Root and Acorus calamus Rhizome Extracts Using UMR-106 Bone Cancer Cell Line
From the last few years researchers have made lot of efforts to explore anticancer agents from medicinal plants. In the present study, cytotoxic and apoptotic property of Chrysopogon zizaniodes root and Acorus calamus rhizome extracts were evaluated by MTT assay using UMR-106 bone cancer cell lines. The IC50 value of C. zizaniodes and A. calamus was 265.5 µg / ml and 308.7 µg / ml respectively on UMR-106 bone cancer cell line and that of standard doxorubicin was 19.79 µg/ml. As the IC50 value of C. zizaniodes was comparatively less than that of A. calamus, the apoptotic experiment was continued with C. zizaniodes. Treatment of UMR-106 cell line with sample C. zizanioides at 160 µg /ml and 320 µg / ml concentration was known to induce apoptosis
Neutrosophic Nano Extremal Disconnectedness
This paper delves into the exploration of extremally disconnected spaces within the context of neutrosophic nano topological space. It introduces a novel space termed neutrosophic nano mixed space, created through the fusion of neutrosophic nano minimal structure and neutrosophic nano topology. The primary objective is to investigate extremal disconnectedness within this new space, shedding light on its properties and implications. Furthermore, the research examines the characterization of various types of open sets within the neutrosophic nano mixed space. As an extension, we gave a bio-mathematical application of neutrosophic nano extremal disconnectedness
Evaluation of the Chemoinhibitory effects of Some Fruits found in Manipur on Kidney stone in in vitro and comparison of the effects with the herbal drug - Cystone.
Now-a-days, most people are concerned about their health. Good health means almost free from all kind of diseases. Among these diseases, kidney stone disease is one of the most common ailments (3rd place) in the world. The most emerging technique for the treatment of kidney stone is the use of medicinal plants(leaf, fruit, flower, whole plant, etc) because it is more economic and fewer side effect. The present research work is the study of the effects of locally available fruits of Manipur on kidney stones formation(mainly calcium oxalate stone formation) both in the aqueous and urinary media. Fruits are providing antioxidants, antibiotics, antiurolithiatic property, etc. The statistical correlation study report has that when investigating the effect of fruit extract in aqueous and urinary media, a highly significant linear relationship was observed between Inhibition (0.1%) and the concentration of Ca2+ in solution (g). However, weak linear relations (P>0.05) were observed between Inhibition (0.1%) and Ca2+ in precipitate (g), as well as between the concentration of Ca2+ in solution (g) and Ca2+ in precipitate (g).Among the fruits studied, Celtis australis has the highest inhibitory effect on calcium oxalate(COX) stone formation in aqueous medium while Citrus latipes has the highest inhibitory effect on COX stone formation in the urinary medium
“Talents” and the Meanings They Make
In this article, I wish to explore specifically Jesus’s parable of the talents in the biblical texts using the three-fold descriptive model, depicted as riddle, example and challenge parables, by John Dominic Crossan. I aim to analyse the theme, structure and delivery of this parable employing ideas of orality as represented by Walter J Ong and Alessandro Portelli. I argue that the parable represents a complex formulation of ideas and reflections, including a cultural-political critique of the history and culture of 1CE Palestine. By way of conclusion, I submit that Jesus’s talents parable goes beyond simple moral narrative to critical, provocative reflections of lived experience, its culture and its politics
