THE COMPARISON OF THE SELECTED METHODS FOR DETERMINING THE SIZE OF THE SAFETY STOCK AND THEIR APPLICATION IN THE FOOD INDUSTRY
The problem of inventory management solves many businesses every day. Newtonianism: How Thomas Paine Devalued the British Monarchy by Transforming John Locke’s Empiricism and Social Contract Theory
The following student contribution concerns Thomas Paine’s Newtonian concepts of society and government in the context of the Age of Enlightenment. Its aim is to demonstrate how Thomas Paine reinterpreted Enlightenment political thought as proposed by the empiricist theorist, John Locke, by using the principles of Newtonianism. Paine’s Newtonian politics is closely connected with his deistic faith. His political theory is devoted to the vision of a free society as a manifestation of the benevolent The Watchmaker. With this mission in mind, Paine attempted to devalue the contemporary models of the state of nature and social contract theory as interpreted by John Locke and to offer a more democratic version of these concepts. Paine’s key ideas in this respect are expressed in his most famous works Common Sense, The Rights of Man and The Age of Reason
The Duels of Monarchs: the Issue of Ritual Communication from Antiquity to the Present Day
The paper seeks to explain the significance of the phenomenon, which were the duels of monarchs. They appear to be best understood if analyzed in the context of ritual communication. Challenges to monarchs to fight a duel, although none actually took place, were widespread gestures from antiquity to the modern times. They are known from many documented, literary (Iliad) and iconographic sources and also from chronicles. It appears, however, that historians have not so far devoted proper attention to them and failed to correctly interpret this problem and explain it adequately. The present study is an attempt to look at the subject from a new angle. The paper seeks to explain the significance of the phenomenon, which were the duels of monarchs. The Reformation in Krnov (Jägerndorf) and Cieszyn (Teschen)
The article focuses on the Reformation of two Silesian towns – Krnov (Jägerndorf) and Cieszyn (Teschen) – and gives an idea of its going in the course of the 16th century. The Nobility in Bohemia and in the Habsburg Monarchy within the Legal and Social Context of the 19th Century
In this study the author specifically summarises Czech research on nobility in relation to the Habsburg Monarchy during the 19th Century. She demonstrates that the nobility did not comprise a monolithic, internally undifferentiated unit, because its lifestyle was still regulated by the specific provisions of the aristocratic hierarchy, which did not always have the nature of a standard legal norm. It was above all the nobility who clung to its observances and enclosed itself in an increasingly tighter, though not hermetically sealed, individual group of persons. In terms of their number, they represented a mere fraction of the entire society, but their significance could not be entirely ignored. Meanwhile, in the traditional area of aristocratic influence its impact was gradually fading. During the 19th Century this process probably progressed most rapidly in the army and specifically amongst the senior officers. A more complex situation arose at a higher level of the Catholic hierarchy, whereas this trend manifested to its least extent within the diplomatic service. Meanwhile the nobility that did not have any direct ties to the Imperial Court was gradually losing-out. In the mid-19th Century the nobility lost both their rights and their obligations as landed lords. On the other hand, usually nothing would prevent them from participating in a modern business. Not everybody belonging to this social layer, however, had both the necessary ability and/or the desire to do so.In this study the author specifically summarises Czech research on nobility in relation to the Habsburg Monarchy during the 19th Century.
