CALCULATION OF EMISSIONS FROM TRANSPORT SERVICES AND THEIR USE FOR THE INTERNALISATION OF EXTERNAL COSTS IN ROAD TRANSPORT
Impact of transport operations on the environment is an important criterion of quality services. Requirements for environmental acceptability has recently escalated, manufacturing and trading companies require the carriers to declare the impact of their activities on the environment. Area of concern are the emission factors used for calculating emissions and their unification. For this reason it was accepted norm STN EN 16258, which deals with the methodology of calculation and declaration of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from transport services. Existing emission calculators do not allow the calculation of the external costs of transport services in the area of transport services impacts on the environment. Article deals with the design and application of the calculator of external costs of transport services as an extension, respectively another important function, emission calculator for field of transport services
RISK FACTORS FOR HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TRANSPORTATION IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC
The paper is focused on hazardous materials transportation by road and investigates risk factors influencing risk associated with such transportation. Statistical data on this special type of transportation are used in order to detect most important factors, increasing accident probability. Paramount attention is devoted to the drivers and factors causing the accidents. Measures reducing risk of hazardous material transportation are proposed in this paper
Oleanna: A Cognitive Poetic Reading
A relatively new discipline, Cognitive Poetics is concerned with the process through which meaning is shaped and analyzed. What is known as the American model of Cognitive Poetics makes use of the theories of Cognitive Linguistics to provide a fresh outlook for reading literary texts. One of the concerns of this model is with studying metaphor as an important means of meaning-making. In proposing the Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT), George Lakoff and Mark Johnson assert that metaphor is not just a matter of words, rather it is inherently conceptual. They claim that our conceptual system is metaphorically shaped and the conceptual metaphors which shape our understanding affect not only our language but also our behavior as well as how we make sense of the world around us. Lakoff and Johnson define conceptual metaphors as our means of understanding one concept in terms of another. They argue that conceptual metaphors help us comprehend abstract concepts in terms of more concrete ones. Using CMT, this article attempts to read David Mamet’s Oleanna in terms of two of the most common conceptual metaphors, namely LIFE IS A PLAY and ARGUMENT IS WAR. It intends to explain how these conceptual metaphors become the underlying structure of the characters’ interaction throughout the play; a play which takes place in an academic setting. The article demonstrates how words become weapons in the hand of characters to obtain power over one another. They are entrapped in a language which does not allow them to behave beyond the confines of a performance or a verbal battle
Matouš Konečný and his Participation in Clergy Education of the Bohemian Brethren on the Beginning of the 17th Century
Matouš Konečný, the bishop of the Bohemian Brethren in Mladá Boleslav between 1609‒1622, was responsible also for the education of deacons and priests of this protestant confession. The realization of this mission made him possible his contacts with Matthias Martini, the rector of the Gymnasium illustre at Bremen. In the Book about the duty of Christians, printed 1612 and 1616, presented Konečný one‘s own ideas about the Christian education.Matouš Konečný, the bishop of the Bohemian Brethren in Mladá Boleslav between 1609‒1622, was responsible also for the education of deacons and priests of this protestant confession. EMPTY CONTAINERS REPOSITIONING: LANDLOCKED MARKET
The paper challenges business implications of published research outcomes that apply mathematical analysis of container movements processes for specific geographical regions. Based on extensive and structured literature review of empty container repositioning, the paper identifies a lack of integration from a holistic point of view. The research is supported by qualitative study based on semi-structured in depth interviews of key actors´ managers and its analysis. The research questions if repositioning management is primarily perceived as an issue of equipment movement optimization or as one of collaboration especially in the case of the mostly landlocked hinterland in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). The research addresses the topic of inland repositioning management with a linkage to the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) countries that is not considered by geographically framed research studies mainly focused on contestable European hinterlands
COMPARISON OF OPERATIONAL AND ECONOMIC ASPECTS OF DIRECT ROAD TRANSPORT AND CONTINENTAL COMBINED TRANSPORT
V příspěvku jsou popsány ekonomické a provozní dopady při přechodu systému přímé silniční dopravy na nedoprovázenou kombinovanou dopravu. American Romanticism, Poe and “The Rationale of Verse”
Although “The Philosophy of Composition” is usually referred to as Edgar Allan Poe’s best-known critical essay,“The Rationale of Verse” can certainly be seen as his most elaborate. “Rationale” presents a consideration of the poem as a unit with elements that function together as a unique achievement of a single effect. In this essay Poe developed his “mathematical approach” to a poem in minute detail, emphasizing his proposition that verse is based on time as it is in music, not on accent. This paper will highlight Poe’s most significant ideas on versification and poetry as expressed in “The Rationale of Verse” as well as reveal the basic shortcomings of the essay, a text which can be said to represent the first significant American attempt at laying out the foundations for a modern science of English language verse
