“There Is Nothing New Out Here!” A Case Study of Communication Strategies and Gender Dynamics in the First World War Family Correspondence
The article is a case study based on two collections of letters between couples in Moravia during the Great War. Using these collections that include either both or – rather uniquely – only the woman’s side of the correspondence, the author tries to follow the basic strategies employed by respective parties to the wartime dialogue between the frontline and the home front, ranging from discursive silence to standardized “calming phrases” and strategies, all the way to the moments when these strategies crumble under the weight of the events. In parallel, the text also focuses on the way these strategies reflected the changing gender structures and relations in wartime society, particularly the sense of empowered femininity and weakened masculinity, respectively. The article is a case study based on two collections of letters between couples in Moravia during the Great War. Judith Rebecca von Wrbna and Maria Sophia von Dietrichstein: Two Imperial Ambassadresses from the Kingdom of Bohemia at the Court of Madrid (1653–1674)
This article focuses on the diplomatic activity of two ambassadors’s wives from the Kingdom of Bohemia at the court of Madrid between (1653–1674). In that time, the spouse of a diplomat was called “ambassadress”. Throughout the 17th century, the ambassadresses acquired ceremonial, political and social functions. The Countess of Lamberg and the Countess of Pötting were ambassadresses during a special period: during their ‘embassies’, the “Question of the Succession” marked the Hispanic monarchy relations with the Holy Roman Empire; and a Habsburg Queen, Mariana of Austria, was consort (and after regent) of Spain. Also, the second half of the 17th century coincided with the consolidation of the role of the ambassadresses at European courts. Judith Rebecca Wrbna and Maria Sophia von Dietrichstein paved the way for their successor, set precedents and made it easier for subsequent Imperial ambassadresses to access the diplomatic areas of the Spanish court. At the same time, both ambassadresses helped gain acceptance and legitimacy for the political actions of the ambassadors in court circles, established a good relation with the Queen Mariana of Austria, achieved their ceremonial and social duties (visiting), and acted as brokers at court. In short, these two ambassadresses marked a turning point in the diplomatic life of the following Imperial ambassadresses to Spain. This article focuses on the diplomatic activity of two ambassadors’s wives from the Kingdom of Bohemia at the court of Madrid between (1653–1674). DESIGN OF THE REBUILDING THE ONE-AXLE WORKING MACHINE TO TWO-AXLE WORKING MACHIN
This article deals with the design of the rebuilding the working machine with one axle to the working machine with two axles. Obtained visualised designs will provide the overview on the machine state after real prototype construction. The improvement of the driving and operational properties of the machine is the goal of this rebuilding and also its applicability will be increased. The design will incline to these basic criteria: retention of compact dimensions in order to transport it on a trailer for a car, easy machine handling and attendance and also passability. The aim is that dimensions of the the new machine design will provide the sufficient space for the ergonomic layout of the operator’s position along with the retention of the gross machine weight up to 500 kg by reason of the load capacity of the standard trailer for a car

Writing Personal Trauma in Young Adult Fiction: Benjamin Zephaniah’s Refugee Boy and Siobhan Dowd’s Solace of the Road
In recent decades, the findings of trauma studies have been used in analyzing literary texts depicting trauma. While most critical attention is devoted to so-called historical or collective trauma (such as the Holocaust) and its long-time effects on survivors, there are novels, particularly coming-of-age novels, addressing complex issues of personal trauma. Analyzing Benjamin Zephaniah’s Refugee Boy (2001) and Siobhan Dowd’s Solace of the Road (2009), this paper centers on personal (individual) trauma such as loss, child abuse and/or abandonment, and on traumatic memory in connection with identity formation of a teenage protagonist. It also deals with the textual means of writing trauma and reflects on the category of young adult literature under which both novels were marketed, arguing why Zephaniah’s novel fits the category while Dowd’s can be seen as a crossover novel
Jim Grimsley’s Dream Boy as an Insight into Male Teenage Same-Sex Desire in the American South
The article discusses two opposing interpretations of Jim Grimsley’s novel Dream Boy (1995), a “southern” one and a “gay” one. Because of the ambiguities of the novel, the story of two teenagers, Nathan and Roy, can be considered primarily in its southern setting and understood as an insight into same-sex desire in the South, which often exists outside the categories of gay identity. At the same time, it can be seen as just another coming-out story, this time one set in a rural area and ending prematurely with the violent death of the main protagonist. While the author of the article would subscribe to a “gay” interpretation, he admits that the “southern” interpretation, suggested by Grimsley, may provide a valuable insight into same-sex desire in the American South
Franz Anton von Dietrichstein (1643-1721) – Nobleman in the Ranks of the Society of Jesus
The study deals with the personality of Franz Anton von Dietrichstein and his (seemingly) sudden decision to enter the Jesuit order during his study stay in Rome in 1666 and resign from the already acquired canonry in Passau, Regensburg and Olomouc. The article works with the correspondence kept by Franz Anton and his tutor Josef Seim with prince Ferdinand von Dietrichstein, Franz´s half-brother and legal guardian, and tries to analyze in what way Franz could arrive at this decision, why it was problematic for his family and how this new situation, which in the end really resulted in Franz´s entry into the novitiate, was perceived. At the same time, the paper tries to present this individual story in the context of the present knowledge of the church and religious order career of the nobility. The second part of the study represents Franz\u27s decision and his subsequent order life from the perspective of his post-mortem elogium from 1721.The study deals with the personality of Franz Anton von Dietrichstein and his (seemingly) sudden decision to enter the Jesuit order during his study stay in Rome in 1666 and resign from the already acquired canonry in Passau, Regensburg and Olomouc. Lutherʼs Anniversary (1717) and Conversion in the Saxon Electorʼs Court: starting points and possibilities of the research
The 200th Anniversary of Reformation, so called Lutherʼs Jubilee, in 1717, was in Saxony and also in the Holy Roman Empire connected with the conversion of the Electoral Prince Frederick Augustus (in spe Augustus III) to Catholicism. This change of the confession of the Wettinsʼ family (not only in the context of history of Protestants and also Catholics) has been interpreted by historians for a long time. And what kind of new historical methodology could be used for reinterpretation of this historical reality? The 200th Anniversary of Reformation, so called Lutherʼs Jubilee, in 1717, was in Saxony and also in the Holy Roman Empire connected with the conversion of the Electoral Prince Frederick Augustus (in spe Augustus III) to Catholicism.
