The Absent Satirist: The Strange Case of Muriel Spark
No full textBased on her early novels, Muriel Spark was pigeonholed by her contemporaries as a Catholic satirist committed to eternal truths. However, Spark took an increasing delight in elusiveness in her later novels, refusing to confer value on her texts or insert an easily recognizable moral preoccupation. This paper is an attempt to discuss whether Spark’s cool, unengaged quality and ostentatious lack of interest in upholding moral values may or may not enable satire within the confines of its traditional predicament. Since Spark came very close to contradicting many of her previous claims and findings during her dynamic development, I am obliged to utilize novels from different periods, The Ballad of Peckham Rye (1960) and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1961), along with The Abbess of Crewe (1974), to find out whether any method can be derived from her apparent inconsistency
AIRPORT SECURITY DETECTION C HECK WHAT ARE THE REAL LIMITS?
No full textThis article deals with one part of the ongoing project of the Air transport department of the University College of Business in Prague. This project aims to apply modern trends and knowledge in the process of detection checks at airports and thus to modify the screening sites on the basis of this knowledge. Partial goals of the project are behavioural detection and working environment. The text of the article itself deals with the boundary conditions of the project - about limits. These limits mainly concern the absence of the necessary legislative base in the EU. The aim of this article is to highlight important and rigorous marginal conditions in this area that do not allow innovative approaches to most scientific and other projects. That is why the project team of aimed at one of the outputs of the project also proposal for the direction of research activities in this sphere of civil aviation protection against unlawful acts. Shaping the Danish and Imperial Legation Chapels in Vienna and Copenhagen during the Period after the Thirty Years’ War
No full textThe following article primarily analyses the operation of the Lutheran Legation Chapel during the long-term residency of the Danish Envoy, Andreas Pauli von Liliencron, in Vienna. The targeted support for the denominational minorities in Vienna and Copenhagen by the legation envoys caused numerous conflicts on both sides. The ways of resolving these disputes eventually become reminders of the extraordinary dynamism of international relations during the second half of the 17th Century.The following article primarily analyses the operation of the Lutheran Legation Chapel during the long-term residency of the Danish Envoy, Andreas Pauli von Liliencron, in Vienna. European Traditions and the Beginnings of Modern mosaic in Bohemia and Moravia
No full textThe renovation of the musive technique took place in Venice after the middle of the 19th century. The effort to rescue the mosaics of the local church of San Marco led to the revival of the production of mosaic glass and to the foundation of specialised workshops, which worked on the repairs of earlier works as well as on the creation of new compositions. Generations of mosaicists trained in the Venetian milieu and particularly in the enterprise of Antonio Salviati then spread the specialised activity on the boundary of arts and crafts to other European countries. The personage of Luigi Solerti, who settled in the background of the originally glass painting company of Albert Neuhauser in Innsbruck, is particularly important for Bohemia. The company carried out commissions not only on the territory of Austria but also of all other lands of the monarchy. The operation of foreign mosaicists has been addressed only partially so far within Czech history and art theory. The study offers a new view of the domestic situation, casting light for the first time for a Czech reader on many facts concerning the development of European (particularly Italian and Austrian) mosaic art in the second half of the 19th century.The renovation of the musive technique took place in Venice after the middle of the 19th century. The Illusion of Power or Relentless Reality? Ceremonial and Ritual Practices at the Court of Moscow in the Middle of the 17th Century through the Eyes of the Imperial Diplomats
No full textThe main aim of the contribution is to show upon the background of the diplomatic missions of the Habsburg diplomats – Allegretto Allegretti and Johann Theodor of Lorbach (1655–1656), Johann Christoph of Fragstein and Christoph Beuer of Binnen (1657–1658) – how the ceremonial and ritual practices at the Tsar’s court were perceived by these mentioned diplomats. Furthermore, how there were reflected particular means of visualisation of the political status of the Habsburg representatives on the one hand and of the Russian head of state and his councellors and advisers on the other hand. No full textCílem příspěvku je poukázat na nedostatky plynoucí ze současného způsobu realizace procesu bezpečnostní kontroly na mezinárodních letištích. Uvedeny jsou základní definice související s bezpečnostními kontrolami, jejich vývoj i aktuální situace. Dále jsou diskutována negativa současného přístupu a předložen návrh na modernizaci koncepce stanovišť bezpečnostních kontrol s důrazem na zvýšení spolehlivosti operátorů detekční kontroly i detekční kontroly samotné prostřednictvím behaviorální analýzy cestujících. Tato plánovaná optimalizační opatření by měla přinést vyšší míru zajištění vyhrazeného bezpečnostního prostoru letiště a hypoteticky i dalších strategických objektů kritické infrastruktury.The aim of this paper is to point to shortcomings arising from the current method of security checks at international airports. There are included definitions related to security checks, their development and current situation. There are also discussed disadvantages of the current approach and submitted a proposal to modernization of security checkpoints, with an emphasis on improving the reliability of screeners and screening itself through behavioural analysis of passengers. These planned optimization measures should bring a higher level of assurance of the security restricted area of the airport and hypothetically also other strategic objects of critical infrastructure

Plagiarism in Typee: A Peep at Herman Melville’s Lifting from Travel Narratives
No full textHerman Melville’s first book Typee: A Peep at Polynesian Life During a Four Months’ Residence in the Valley of the Marquesas (1846) made him famous and along with his next narrative Omoo (1847) he maintained an audience both in England and the United States, even though both books were controversial. In Typee, the combination of his plagiarism of obscure travel narratives and his cheap attempts to sensationalize his brief visit on the island of Nuka Hiva with titillating imaginings of beautiful loose native women along with his melodramatic captivity narrative and the irrational fear of anthropophagy reveal, this paper will argue, that in Typee Melville wrote in the main sensational hackwork
