Aviation safety is an essential aspect that determines the quality of air transport. Efforts to maintain the highest possible level of safety should be therefore the most important objective for all stakeholders in civil aviation. The paper deals with safety of air transport and the basic tool for maintaining the level of safety – safety management system

Cieľom riešenej štúdie bolo zmapovanie spin-off spoločností v podmienkach Žilinskej univerzity v Žiline, konkrétne na Fakulte prevádzky a ekonomiky dopravy a spojov a Fakulte riadenia a informatiky. The aim of the study was to map spin-off companies in conditions of the University of Zilina in Zilina, namely on the Faculty of Operation and Economics of Transport and Communications and the Faculty of Management and Informatics. Postup umožní kvantifikovat počet ohrožených osob v případě nehody a následně přizpůsobit zásah integrovaného záchranného systému.This article describes a methodology for determining the number of passengers in public transport hubs for assessing the risk of the hub in caused by release of dangerous substance in the neighbourhood. The number of passengers in the transport hub is determined by the number and occupancy of public transport vehicles serving the transport hub, the average waiting time for the transport link, the time to transfer and other influences. The methodology is validated at the selected transport hub for the release of the dangerous substance – ammonia. The procedure will enable to quantify the number of people at risk in the event of an accident and then justify the intervention of the integrated rescue system

The Assimilation of Post-War Generations of Czech Immigrants in Chicago

    No full text
This paper presents the results of the research conducted since 2013 in the Czech immigrant community in Chicago. The case of Czech immigration is particularly interesting, as it can be considered a textbook example of successful assimilation. Czechs had arrived in Chicago as early as mid-19th century. During the 20th and 21st centuries, there have been several waves of Czech immigration, usually connected to political as well as economic situations in Czechoslovakia or later the Czech Republic. The research methodology is based mainly on participatory observations and interviews. The research sample includes respondents from different migration waves, especially political immigrants after 1948 and 1968 who have legal status, as well as post-1989 immigrants whose choice to migrate was largely non-political and mostly economic. Czech immigration can generally be characterized by very strong and relatively fast assimilation across generations

    No full text
Tom Robbins’ novel Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates (2000) provides a plethora of ways to obtain an insight into his characters’ minds and learn about their feelings and emotions by means of certain techniques of representing speech, thought, and perception, namely free indirect speech/thought, narrative report of thought act, and substitutionary perception/free indirect perception, to name but a few. The aim of this paper is to demarcate the boundaries between those modes of representation and through stylistic analysis to pinpoint examples of mode of representation which both reflect characters’ thoughts and perceptions, while at the same time reveal the narrator’s creativity while constructing the fictional world of the novel

We have counted cars, which parked on the streets and also parking spaces. City offices in both cities had given us the necessary documentation about numbers of registered cars and flats in these areas. The results from traffic survey are alarming. The car parks have insufficient capacity and many cars stop at forbidden or dangerous areas of the streets. This paper includes results, which were used as a base data for transport planning. We have focused on the most critical areas of housing estates, where the problem with parking was emerged

During processing of crude oil are producing many products, which are process in refinery or products are transported some type of transport to consignee. Transportation of crude products are realized by pipeline, road, barge and railway freight transport. Advantages railway are transportation of large quantity in a short time and long distances for low costs

This article deals with the development of a computational diesel engine model for the aerospace industry and HIL testing. The model is assembled from the blocks of own libraries in the Simulink software. To verify functionality, it was implemented on hardware for HIL testing, and responses to inputs generated by a simple real-time control algorithm were monitored. The aim was to verify and optimize the computational model for subsequent HIL testing with the prototype ECU

Narrative Unreliability in Paula Hawkins’ The Girl on the Train as a Strategy of Reader Immersion

    No full text
This paper considers the narratological phenomenon of unreliable narration in the novel The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins, concentrating on mechanisms of reader perception. Starting with a survey of the main contemporary definitions of unreliable narration as well as sources of unreliability, the article moves to the problem of how unreliable narration can influence a reader of the analysed text, discussing ways in which unreliability combines with other aspects of the narrative. The effect of unreliable narration on the reader is examined in terms of recipient immersion. The disclosure of unreliable statments, the search for truth hidden beneath the cover of narration, along with the recuperation of the “reliability” of the narrator are viewed as supplementary objects of the reader’s interest during text perception. Attention is focused on two components of reader gratification as manifest in Hawkins’ novel: intellectual satisfaction due to the solution of the murder mystery (temporal immersion), as well as satisfaction resulting from the protagonist’s psychic recovery and revenge (emotional immersion). The last section of the paper compares the reader’s perception of the novel with the viewer’s reactions to a screen version directed by Tate Taylor.&nbsp
