Henry Bibb’s (Dis)claiming Family: Malinda as a Case Study of Black Women’s Symbolic Annihilation in Antebellum Literature
No full textExisting scholarship on the autobiography Narrative of the Life and Adventures of Henry Bibb prioritizes Bibb’s masculinity and the impact of slavery on Black families, often overlooking the complex experiences of enslaved Black women such as Bibb’s first wife Malinda within such a narrative. Amy Lewis’s article “Who’ll Speak for Malinda?” distinguishes itself by offering an alternative narrative focusing on Malinda’s experience. My paper builds on Lewis’s work by arguing that despite condemning slavery, Bibb’s narrative inadvertently perpetuates Malinda’s symbolic annihilation. Through a close reading of Bibb, my study attempts to reveal how enslaved women’s experiences are often omitted, trivialized, and condemned in American antebellum literature. By devoting particular attention to the “symbolic annihilation” of enslaved women, this paper responds to Amy Lewis’s call for alternate narratives and offers a critical shift in reading and interpreting depiction and omission of Black women in ex-enslaved narratives throughout nineteenth-century antebellum America. This approach has the potential to uncover the complex realities of Black women to offer valuable insights into their lives and experiences, thus challenging dominant interpretations of slave narratives

EFEKT PSYCHOEDUKAČNÝCH INTERVENCIÍ POSKYTOVANÝCH SESTRAMI PACIENTOM SO SCHIZOFRÉNIOU: SCOPING REVIEW
No full textVýchodisko: Psychoedukácia má pre pacientov so schizofréniou mnohostranný význam. Je nevy-hnutnou súčasťou komplexnej starostlivosti o nich. Realizovaná je interdisciplinárnym tímom vrátene sestier.
Cieľ: Identifikovať efekt psychoedukácie realizovanej sestrami u pacientov so schizofréniou.
Metódy: Vyhľadávanie výskumných štúdií sa uskutočnilo v štyroch vedeckých multiodborových databázach, a to v PubMed, Web of Science, ScienceDirect a v Scopus. Z celkového počtu 398 štúdií bolo 11 štúdií zaradených do obsahovej analýzy. Proces triedenia štúdií bol realizovaný prostredníctvom PRISMA diagramu.
Výsledky: V analyzovaných štúdiách bol identifikovaný efekt psychoedukácie, na ktorej realizácii participovali sestry, v nasledovnách oblastiach: zmiernenie symptómov schizofrénie, podpora kompliancie a adherencie pacientov, redukcia dĺžky hospitalizácie a rehospita-lizácie pacientov, zvýšenie vedomostí a vhľadu pacientov na ochorenie, zlepšenie ich sociálneho fungovania a podpora zdravého životného štýlu.
Závery: Výsledky poskytujú dôkazy pre realizáciu opakovanej psychoedukácie pacientov so schizofréniou v rámci ošetrovateľskej starostlivosti poskytovanej v rôznych prostrediach klinickej praxe. Vzhľadom na limitácie metodiky štúdie i metodologické limitácie vyhľadaných štúdií tieto výsledky nie je možné zovšeobecňovať.Background: Psychoeducation has a multifaceted meaning for patients with schizophrenia. It is an essential part of their comprehensive care. It is implemented by interdisciplinary teams, including nurses.
Objective: Identify the effectiveness of psychoeducation delivered by nurses for patients with schizophrenia.
Methods: A systematic search was conducted in four scientific multidisciplinary databases: PubMed, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, and Scopus. A total of 398 studies were identified, of which 11 were included in the content analysis. The study selection process was guided by a PRISMA diagram.
Results: The studies demonstrated the effectiveness of nurse-led psychoeducation was identified in the following areas: in mitigating schizophrenia symptoms, improving patient compliance and adherence, reducing hospitalization and rehospitalization time, improving patient knowledge and insight into the disease, promoting social functioning, and supporting a healthy lifestyle.
Conclusions: The results provide evidence for the implementation of repeated psychoeducation of patients with schizophrenia as part of nursing care provided in different settings of clinical practice. Given the li-mitations of the study methodology and the methodological limitations of the searched studies, these results cannot be generalized.Východisko: Psychoedukácia má pre pacientov so schizofréniou mnohostranný význam. No full textRailway transport is a continuous process that must be coordinated at all levels of management and is determined by technological procedures. From a technological point of view, it is important to correctly determine the practical throughput performance of the track section, also called the capacity of the railway infrastructure. This means which railway transport can be used to load the track section so that it exhibits sufficient railway transport stability even during operational irregularities. The article is focused on the method of increasing the capacity of the track section Drienovská Nová Ves - Kysak using the method of determining the practical throughput performance in the anticipated timetable. The detailed determination of the occupation times of the section in the current state and in the application of individual proposals provides us with information about other possibilities for the modernization of the railway infrastructure in the Slovak Republic. The article describes and evaluates the advantages and disadvantages of individual proposals for increasing the capacity of the examined track section. As part of the future modernization of the railway infrastructure of this track section, it is necessary to implement these measures, as the examined line section is part of the RFC corridor. The intention is not only to increase the quality of railway infrastructure, but also the quality of freight and passenger transport.Železničná doprava je kontinuálny proces, ktorý musí byť koordinovaný na všetkých úrovniach riadenia a je determinovaný technologickými postupmi. Z technologického hľadiska je dôležité správne určiť praktickú priepustnosť traťového úseku, nazývanú aj kapacita železničnej infraštruktúry. To znamená, akou vlakovou dopravou možno zaťažiť traťový úsek tak, aby vykazoval dostatočnú stabilitu vlakovej dopravy aj pri prevádzkových nepravidelnostiach. Článok je zameraný na spôsob zvýšenia kapacity traťového úseku Drienovská Nová Ves - Kysak s využitím metódy stanovenia praktickej priepustnej výkonnosti vo výhľadovom grafikone. Podrobné stanovenie časov obsadenia úseku pri súčasnom stave a pri aplikácii jednotlivých návrhov nám poskytuje informácie o ďalších možnostiach modernizácie železničnej infraštruktúry v SR. Článok popisuje a hodnotí výhody a nevýhody jednotlivých návrhov na zvýšenie kapacity skúmaného traťového úseku. V rámci budúcej modernizácie železničnej infraštruktúry tohto traťového úseku je potrebné tieto opatrenia realizovať, nakoľko skúmaný traťový úsek je súčasťou RFC koridoru. Zámerom je nielen zvýšenie kvality železničnej infraštruktúry, ale aj kvality nákladnej a osobnej dopravy

Nosný plyn je dělen na základní dva plyny, které jsou helium a vodík. Dalším rozdělením je přeprava nákladu uvnitř či vně trupu vzducholodi. Které je následně rozděluje dle možností nakládky a vykládky. Závěrem jsou přiřazeny piktogramy k jednotlivým výrobcům dle jejich deklarace jakožto příklad přiřazení.The article discusses the categorisation of pictograms based on the type of carrier gas and the method of loading and unloading cargo in airships. The two primary carrier gases are helium and hydrogen. Cargo can be carried inside or outside the airship\u27s hull, with further subdivisions based on loading and unloading capabilities. No full textThe early modern society, usually considered to be patriarchal, determined precise roles for women, who were defined by requirements based mainly on their position in the private sphere. In their family, they assumed the roles of daughters, sisters, mothers, wives, widows, grandmothers, etc. This paper focuses on the role of the mother in early modern society by analysing the correspondence of the Koháry family. For this purpose, the epistolar communication between Judith Balassa (c. 1630–c. 1685), the widow of Stephen I. Koháry (1616–1664), and her eldest son Stephen II. Koháry (1649–1731) has been studied. The correspondence was written during two important periods in the life of the Koháry family. The first was during the studies of Stephen II. Koháry in Vienna after the death of his father in 1664, followed by his accession to the post of the captain-general of Fiľakovo, which he held until his capture by Imrich Thökoly in September 1682. No full textIn this article, the author examines the political writings of French authors in the 18th century concerning plans to repair the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The scale of this phenomenon was aboveaverage, thanks to the activity of the Bar Confederation deputy Michał Wielhorski, at whose instigation leading representatives of the French Enlightenment from different political and ideological camps joined the discourse. The author makes a comparison between the solutions that were presented and tries to show the similarities related to Michal Wielhorski’s interference in the texts of their treatises and the differences resulting from the ideological divergence between their authors. Furthermore, he presents excerpts from the texts that suggest the influence of the founder of the texts on their final shape. An attempt is also made to assess to what extent the plans that were presented were a real attempt to help the Commonwealth and to what extent they were rather personal political-ideological manifestos of the individual authors.In this article, the author examines the political writings of French authors in the 18th century concerning plans to repair the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Things Can Only Get Dickensian: An Analysis of Media Coverage of Britain’s Cost of Living Crisis
No full textThe period following the 2008 financial crisis saw the UK enter a period of austerity, exacerbated by the wide-ranging welfare spending cuts of consecutive Conservative governments. Nevertheless, when it appeared that the situation could not become more dire for struggling Britons, the country found itself in the grips of a cost of living crisis precipitated by several concurrent developments such as inflation, an energy crisis, and the fallout from Brexit. Using qualitative thematic analysis, this article examines coverage of the crisis by the British press by exploring how individual newspapers on both the political right and left have chosen to report on the indicators, causes, and victims. The aim is to establish whether the standard political leanings of the papers apply here, or whether the situation is so exceptional in its urgency that the usual stereotypes (strivers/scroungers, deserving/undeserving poor) have been abandoned for a more unified discourse
