EFL Teachers as Intercultural Educators: Transitional Roles and Identity
To date, EFL teachers are ever more anticipated to become intercultural educators, supporting intercultural communicative competence for both teachers and students in language classrooms filled with cultural diversity. Using a mixed-methods design, the study integrates quantitative data from a self-report survey with interviews, as it looks into how EFL teachers convert their roles from typical English teachers to so-called facilitators of communication across cultures. With purposive sampling, 22 EFL teachers from various educational levels and teaching contexts took part in the study. The findings reveal significant differences in the extent to how well-equipped EFL teachers are about intercultural education, and it depends as much on their previous experiences with other cultures. From the interviews, changes in teacher identity, emotional challenges, and the need for support from schools have some influence on their self-perceptions as cross-cultural collaborators. Moving away from delivering content to embracing more reflective discussions with students, most EFL teachers found that being interculturally communicative requires new teaching methods and involves personal development and global citizenship. This transition is found to be a process of learning, developing, and finding new purpose in EFL teaching. Teacher training that offers multicultural experience, reflective practices, and emotional support is therefore suggested.

Intestinal worm infection transmitted through the soil (soil transmitted helminths - STH) infection) is a health problem in the world. In Indonesia STH infection is a public health problem in both rural and urban areas. Many factors contribute to the high incidence of this disease, one of which is eating raw vegetables such as lettuce, cabbage, long beans, cucumbers and basil that are often used as vegetables. Lettuce and cabbage are plants that grow close to the ground. This situation allows STH in the soil to be easily attached to lettuce and cabbage, while for the long beans, cucumber and basil that grows high above the ground the possibility of contamination is due to the use of fertilizer and post-harvest handling. This study aims to determine the rate of contamination of vegetables sold in supermarkets by STH eggs. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Parasitology, Medical Faculty of Christian University of Indonesia from August to November 2015. This is a descriptive study with laboratory approach. Samples were obtained by cluster sampling by taking three supermarkets in Jakarta. STH examination used sedimentation method, followed by making preparations for microscopic examination. The research found contamination STH 43 (11,47%) of the 375 samples. In this study parasites that are found are hookworm, 4% of eggs, filariform larvae 2,93% and 0,8% of larvae rhabditiform, while Ascaris lumbricoides comes in second (2.66%) and Trichuris trichiura only 0.53%. So, there is STH contamination on lettuce, cabbage, beans, cucumbers and basil sold in supermarkets in Jakarta.
