    A LOCAL POLITICS AND SUSTAINABLE REFUGEE MANAGEMENT: A STUDY OF INDONESIAN MUNICIPALITIES: Comparative Lessons from Makassar, Pekanbaru, and Bogor

    As a non-signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention, Indonesia faces persistent challenges in refugee governance, particularly at the local level where everyday interactions between refugees and host communities occur. In the absence of a comprehensive national legal framework, municipal governments play a pivotal role in shaping refugee management practices. This study examines how local political dynamics influence the development of sustainable refugee governance in three Indonesian cities: Makassar, Pekanbaru, and Bogor. Employing qualitative methods policy document analysis, secondary literature review, and organizational reports the research analyzes the interplay of political interests, administrative capacity, and socio-cultural contexts in local policy responses. The findings reveal that variations in leadership, political commitment, and multi-stakeholder collaboration significantly affect the inclusiveness and sustainability of refugee management strategies. While some municipalities demonstrate emerging practices aligned with sustainable governance principles and the Sustainable Development Goals, implementation remains uneven and highly contingent on local political conditions. This study contributes to the literature on refugee governance in non-signatory states by highlighting the centrality of local politics and offers policy-relevant insights on strengthening coordination, clarifying governance frameworks, and enhancing community participation to improve refugee management in Indonesia.Keywords: Local Politics, Refugee Governance, Sustainable Policy, Indonesi

    COMMUNITY PERCEPTION OF HUMAN–ELEPHANT CONFLICT AND CONSERVATION ATTITUDES IN THE DONG NAI BIOSPHERE RESERVE, VIETNAM

    Human–elephant conflict (HEC) has increasingly become a major challenge for elephant conservation and local livelihoods in regions where humans and elephants coexist. The Dong Nai Biosphere Reserve, which hosts the second-largest remaining elephant population in Vietnam, is no exception. This study assessed the extent of HEC-related damages, examined community awareness, and identified factors influencing local attitudes toward elephant conservation. A structured questionnaire survey was conducted with 430 households across four HEC-prone areas: Thanh Son, Ta Lai, Phu Ly, and Ma Da. Results indicated that 79.5% of respondents had experienced elephant-related damages, predominantly crop losses (69.07%) and threats to psychological well-being and personal safety (39.8%). Additionally, 67.0% believed that HEC has been increasing over time, and 83.3% expressed interest in participating in mitigation measures. A similarly high proportion (83.3%) agreed that elephant conservation is necessary. Logistic regression analysis revealed three variables with statistically significant influence on conservation attitudes: household income (Exp(β) = 7.910), interest in HEC mitigation measures (Exp(β) = 8.295), and the perception that HEC is increasing (Exp(β) = 3.254). These findings underscore the critical role of livelihood security and community awareness in shaping support for elephant conservation. The study recommends strengthening mitigation strategies, improving local livelihoods, enhancing communication and education efforts, and promoting inclusive community participation to reduce conflicts and support sustainable elephant conservation in the Dong Nai Biosphere Reserve.Keywords: Human–elephant conflict; Community Perception; Conservation Attitudes; Dong Nai Biosphere Reserve; Elephant Conservation

    MILLENNIAL GENERATION’S PERCEPTION OF NOSTALGIA-THEMED TOURISM IN SHAPING EMOTIONAL EXPERIENCE

    This study examines how millennial tourists perceive nostalgia-themed tourism and how nostalgicemotional experiences are constructed during destination encounters. Using a qualitative descriptiveapproach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentationinvolving eight millennial visitors to nostalgia-oriented urban destinations. The findings demonstrate that nostalgic emotional experience is not an automatic response to sensory exposure but emerges through a layered and interpretive process shaped by the interaction of sensory activation, interpersonal authenticity, and reflective meaning-making. Visual and auditory cues such as heritage-style architecture, retro ambience, and old-era music function as initial triggers that activate autobiographical and collective memories and evoke emotional comfort. These emotional states are further reinforced through warm and personalized social interactions, which enhance perceptions of authenticity and emotional attachment. Conversely, inconsistencies in service delivery disrupt experiential continuity and weaken nostalgicimmersion. Theoretically, this study advances nostalgia tourism and experience economy scholarship by conceptualizing nostalgia as a dynamic emotional process of reflection, identity negotiation, and emotional regulation rather than a static recall of the past. Practically, the findings suggest that destination managers should design nostalgia-themed tourism through coherent integration of atmospheric elements, humancentered service, and narrative storytelling to foster deeper emotional engagement and sustained destination appeal among millennial visitors.Keywords: Nostalgia Tourism; Millennial Generation; Emotional Experience; Experience Economy;Urban Touris

    The era of progress and development has made four-wheeled vehicles, or cars, a basic necessity for the middle to upper-class society. This is evident from the increasing purchase of used cars every year. The number of car users continues to rise, resulting in various complex issues. One of the main issues is the worsening traffic congestion, leading to an increase in road accidents. The automotive service industry continues to evolve, providing adequate facilities. When these services are delivered effectively, they are used to enhance customer satisfaction. A quantitative approach is employed, and it has a cause-and-effect relationship design for the specific variables. The research findings are as follows: service quality has a positive and significant impact on customer satisfaction, with low significance (0.000 < 0.05). Similarly, the company image has a positive and significant effect on customer satisfaction, with low significance (0.004 < 0.05). Furthermore, there is a positive and significant simultaneous impact of the variables on customer satisfaction, as evidenced by the high F-value (191.345 > 3.136) and low significance level (0.000 > 0.05). In conclusion, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, indicating that service quality and company image significantly influence customer satisfaction.     The Effect of Numbered Head Together Learning Model Assisted by Learner Worksheets on Mathematical Problem-solving Ability

    The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is a difference in problem-solving ability assisted by worksheets between students who apply the NHT and Expository learning models. To determine whether or not there is an increase in problem-solving skills assisted by worksheets between students who apply the NHT and expository learning models. This research involved VII-A and VII-B classes of SMP Negeri 50 Jakarta with Quasi Experimental Design. Data obtained from posttest scores, where the data is normal and homogeneous while the data from the gain is normal and inhomogeneous then using the Independent Sample T-Test test, the results: (1) There is no difference in the mathematical problem-solving ability of students with the treatment of NHT and expository learning models.  The average posttest value of mathematical problem-solving ability that gets the NHT learning model treatment reaches 58.72 while with the expository learning model treatment reaches 49.57. (2) There is a difference in the improvement of mathematical problem-solving ability between students who apply the NHT and expository learning models. The average gain data value of the Experiment class reached 46.56 and n - gain reached 0.5660 while the Expository class data gain reached 31.58 and n - gain reached 0.4126

    Science Process Skills and the Potential of Ethnoscience Integration in Chemistry Learning: A Preliminary Study of Media Development

    This study aims to analyze the needs in developing ethnoscience-based chemistry learning media oriented toward science process skills (SPS), particularly on the Voltaic Cell material for 12th-grade senior high school students (SMA/MA). The research method employed was research and development (R&D) using the ADDIE model, focused on the needs analysis stage through questionnaires administered to 34 students and interviews with a chemistry teacher. The results showed that students’ interest in learning chemistry is still low (67.65% stated they dislike chemistry), and the dominant methods used by teachers are lectures (42.31%) and demonstrations (35.90%), while discussion and project methods that have the potential to train SPS are rarely implemented. The learning media used are still limited to PowerPoint, textbooks, and YouTube, making the learning process tend to be monotonous and less interactive. The majority of students (71%) expect innovative media that is applicable, interactive, and connects chemistry concepts with everyday life contexts and local culture. These findings emphasize the need for the development of ethnoscience-based kits as alternative learning media that are not only practical and economical but also relevant to students’ needs, while simultaneously enhancing learning motivation and science process skills

    Systematic Review: Anticancer Activity of Chromolaena odorata L.

    Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the world, and conventional therapies such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy often cause significant side effects. Therefore, natural ingredients are a promising alternative, one of which is Chromolaena odorata, which is known to be rich in flavonoids, alkaloids, and terpenoids. This study aims to systematically review the evidence of anticancer activity of C. odorata based on in vitro and in vivo studies. The literature review was conducted through PubMed, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and Web of Science databases using the PRISMA 2020 method, and ten articles were obtained that met the inclusion criteria. The analysis showed that C. odorata extracts and fractions have cytotoxic activity against various cancer cell lines, including breast (MCF-7, T47D, MDA-MB-231, 4T1), cervical (HeLa), liver (HepG2), colon (HT-29, WiDr, HTB), and skin keratinocyte models (HaCaT). The identified mechanisms include induction of apoptosis, arrest of the G₀-G₁ phase of the cell cycle, suppression of proliferation, and modulation of apoptosis-regulating protein expression. Kaempferide compounds emerged as the most potent candidates with low toxicity to normal cells. However, differences in the extraction method, dose, and cell type led to variations in effectiveness, and the combination with cisplatin on MDA-MB-231 cells showed antagonistic effects. Thus, C. odorata has great potential to be developed as a complementary therapy as well as a source of new lead compounds, although further research is needed to evaluate bioavailability, pharmacokinetics, and safety through preclinical and clinical trials

    Pupuk Daun sebagai Media Alternatif untuk Induksi Kalus Porang (Amorphophallus muelleri Blume.)

    Foliar fertilizer with an affordable market price can be utilized as an alternative medium for callus induction in Amorphophallus muelleri Blume. This study aims to compare the concentration of foliar fertilizer used as an alternative medium.  This study used different concentrations of foliar fertilizer as culture medium: full strength (3,0 g/L) and half strength (1,5 g/L) as substitutes for Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium. The media were supplemented with plant growth regulators (PGRs) 2,4-D (2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid) at 1,0 mg/L and BAP (6-Benzylaminopurine) at 0,5 mg/L for callus induction, and the study aimed to assess the effect of foliar fertilizer (Gandasil D) instead of MS (Murashige-Skoog) medium. The study used a completely randomized design with three treatments, and the data were analyzed using ANOVA (Analysis of Variance). If the ANOVA was significant at α=5%, the DMRT (Duncan\u27s Multiple Range Test) was used to determine differences. The results showed that the formulation was Gandasil D (3,0 g/L) + 2,4-D (1,0 mg/L) + BAP (0,5 mg/L). However, it had a lower average increase in callus diameter than the Gandasil D (1,5 g/L) + 2,4-D (1,0 mg/L) + BAP (0,5 mg/L) treatment. Still, it provided a higher average increase in fresh weight and a lower browning percentage.     The Effectiveness of Butterfly Hug Therapy on Insomnia Among Undergraduate Students at Institut Teknologi Kesehatan Malang Widya Cipta Husada

    Insomnia is a prevalent sleep disorder characterized by dissatisfaction with sleep quality and duration, leading to difficulty initiating sleep, frequent awakenings, early morning waking, and impaired daytime functioning. Non-pharmacological interventions, such as the butterfly hug technique, help improve sleep quality. The butterfly hug involves self-administered positive suggestions to promote relaxation and comfort. These studies examining the effectiveness of the butterfly hug among university students are still limited; therefore, based on the aforementioned background, the researcher is encouraged to conduct this study. This quasi-experimental study employed a nonequivalent control group design. A total of 54 final-year university students were recruited and divided into two groups: an intervention group and a control group. The intervention group received butterfly hug therapy, while the control group did not. The study was conducted over 14 consecutive nights. Insomnia levels were assessed using the KSPBJ-IRS questionnaire. Data normality was assessed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, which revealed a non-normal distribution (p = 0.000 < 0.05). Therefore, the Mann-Whitney U test was used for hypothesis testing. The Mann-Whitney U test revealed a statistically significant difference between the intervention and control groups (p = 0.031, p < 0.05). This finding suggests that butterfly hug therapy was effective in reducing insomnia levels in the intervention group compared to the control group.     Students\u27 Problem-Solving Skills: A Descriptive Study in High School Biology Education

    Problem-solving skills are essential competencies in biology learning, which have a broad and complex scope closely related to real-life phenomena. Students are expected not only to understand biological concepts theoretically but also to apply them in formulating solutions to contextual problems. This study aims to analyse students’ problem-solving skills in biology learning at the senior high school level. The research employed a quantitative descriptive method with a sample of 105 students from SMA Negeri 11 Makassar, selected through random sampling. The research instrument consisted of 16 essay items developed based on eight indicators of problem-solving skills proposed by Greenstein. Data were analysed descriptively by calculating the percentage of achievement for each indicator. The results show that students’ problem-solving skills fall into the low category with an average percentage of 51.62%. The highest achievement was found in the ‘identifies solutions’ indicator (57.50%), while the lowest was in the ‘evaluates solutions’ indicator (47.86%). These findings highlight students’ difficulties in identifying complex biological problems, applying systematic problem-solving steps, evaluating the effectiveness of solutions, and connecting them to real-life contexts. Therefore, students’ problem-solving skills need to be improved through innovative, problem-based, and contextual learning strategies.
