The beginnings of American spiritualism coincided with the growh of scientific materialism in the middle of the nineteenth Century. Originally written in July 1948 as a foreword to The Unobstructed Universe, this paper summarizes information about unconscious and spiritualistic communication

    BIOENERGY DIFFERENCES AMONG RACES

    Get PDF
The Single Square Voltage Pulse method was applied on specific acupuncture points of several thousand relatively healthy subjects from two continents. Two thousand subjects were measured in Japan and as many as thirty Hispanics, fifty Asians and fifty Caucasians, from a pool of more than rwo thousand five hundred subjects measured in California, were also included. No consideration was given to gender differences berween males and females. From the current response curve, only the BP (Before Polarization; the pre-polarization resistance of the skin) parameter was used in this study. The data from the yearly random selection of subjects shows that Japanese, Asians and Hispanics share commonalties suggesting that they belong to one racial group while the Caucasians form another group. Japanese, Asians and Hispanics have an active functioning of the digestive organs while Caucasians are more active in the circulatoty system. The Winter averages show results similar ro the yearly random selection of subjects. The analysis of the Summer averaged also showed significant differences among the races

Comments on the "IR Spectra Alteration in Water Proximate to the Palms of Therapeutic Practitioners"

The inspiration to find a measurable property in water that is capable of retaining a memory of an influence by a human mind is very understandable and commendable. In other words, it is an attempt to put a finger on a "prana saturated water." Some seventeen years ago I tried exactly the same type of experiment. I tried to find micro superstructure in water that had been exposed to Ninel' Kulagina's "healing power." This superstructure, I thought, might be seen in the NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) spectrum of water exposed to Kulagina's hands. So I brought her to the NMR laboratory of the Leningrad University headed at the time by Dr. Chizhik. Three pairs of sealed glass vials were prepared, filled with chemically pure water, and solutions of paramagnetic and diamagnetic salts in this water. It was a strictly exploratory attempt. The vials were placed between Kulagina's palm and the shoulder of one of the researchers for as long as he could tolerate the burn (perhaps, 30-50 seconds). Reddening of the "victim's" skin was obvious. This was typical to subjects of Kulagina's laying-on-of-hands treatment. They often developed blisters. Then the vials were placed in the cell of a NMR Spectrometer. To our disappointment, no difference in the NMR spectra of treated and untreated solutions and water was found. That is why I read with great interest the article "Infrared Spectra Alteration in Water Proximate to the Palms of Therapeutic Practitioners" by Stephen A. Schwartz, Randall J. DeMattei Edward G. Brame, Jr. and S. James P. Spottiswoode published in the first issue of Subtle Energies, 1990

    BIOSTRUCTURES AND RADIATION ORDER DISORDER

Professor Franco Bistolfi has written a book which is perfectly timed in history. During the past decade, there has been an explosion of interest in the effects of nonionizing radiation (NIR) on biological systems. NIR's have been shown to regenerate nerves, promote soft tissue healing, induce osteochondrogenesis, enhance DNA synthesis, increase transcription and translation and stimulate neurotransmitter intensification. I think Bistolfi has rightly looked at the data and concluded that there is a new avenue of inquiry that must be followed. This vision incorporates explanatory mechanisms of biophysics as well as biochemistry. Bistolfi has produced a didactic, creative, critically important compendium of information from a majority of thinkers who have contributed in this area. He gives us a view of the human body which manifests a universe of electrical and magnetic interactions concomitant with the grosser biochemical changes. We look at subatomic vicissitudes in terms of fundamental physical phenomena as mechanical electromagnetic photon/phonon transductions lead a bioconductive connectional system (BCS) which is piezoelectric in nature. Various elements of the BCS such as cytoskeletal structures, keratin filaments of desmosomes (intercellular cohesion) and collagen fibers of the extracellular matrix serve as dissipative structures and are morphological expressions of a large and unitary cooperative system for coherent communications. In point of fact, the protein matrix of enzymes is today considered not only a mechanical mediator between active and medium site, but also a structure capable of directing anisotropically the isotropic energy of medium. This notion melds with Frolich's theory of coherent excitations and is as well in perfect accord with the hydrogen harps model of Bistolfi. In this, he gives a vision of hydrogen bonds seen as strings in a harp and correlates molecular vibrational frequencies with a song of life. This concept is brilliant as well as beautiful

ANOMALOUS ELECTROSTATIC PHENOMENA IN EXCEPTIONAL SUBJECTS

A Tibetan meditation system reported in 1882 suggested a way to facilitate self-awareness by isolating students from electrical ground while they sat beneath a bar magnet and looked at their image in a polished copper wall. The research question: Does an electrostatic charge build up on electrically-isolated meditators? This question was tested with 10 "regular" subjects (typical meditators) and 9 "exceptional" subjects (experienced Non-Contact Therapeutic Touch (NCTT) therapists) in a Copper Wall Lab designed to isolate the subject from ground and also isolate, individually, four surrounding copper walls. front, back, up. and down. For detection of electrostatic potential, the subject's body and the four walls were individually "floated" on single-ended electrometer inputs. A pair of video cameras guarded against body-motion artifact. In 45-minute meditation sessions with the 10 regular meditators. no body-potential surges reached 4 [I. In comparison, in comparable meditation sessions with the NCTT meditators, many bodypotential surges greater than 4 v were found. Surges appearing in the records of NCTT meditators ranged from 4 v to 221 v (median = 8.3 v). with surge duration ranging from 0.5 s to 12.5 s (median = 3.6 s). During NCTT therapy sessions with patients, NCTT therapists produced body-potential surges ranging from 4 v to 190 v. The majority of surges were of negative polarity. Though there is a long tradition of Non-Contact Therapeutic Touch in both folklore and in religion, there are as yet no known psychophysiologic or biophysical explanations for such large-magnitude electrical phenomena, 103 times greater than large psychophysiologic skin-potential (GSP) changes related to emotional responses, 105 larger than EKG voltages, and 106 larger than EEG voltages. Since focus-of-attention by NCTT therapists is often a correlate factor in this anomalous phenomenon, results suggest the presence 0 previously-unmeasured human potential, as well as body potential. Various schemes are discussed for analysis of body-potential surge data, with an eye to determining body mechanisms that might be capable 0 generating electrostatic charge. TOWARDS A PROCESS THEORY OF HEALING: ENERGY, ACTIVITY AND GLOBAL FORM

    Get PDF
The paper begins with a discussion of the ideas of subtle energy and its circulation that appear common to many different healing cultures. These ideas are compared to and contrasted with notions of energy from within Western physics and it is suggested that some more subtle views, or paradigms, of energy are required within Western science. In particular, the implications of a process and verb-based world view are briefly explored, together with the possibility of a process-based mathematics. Within such a descriptive system notions of energy-process would be remarkably different. The paper then explores the extent to which such notions may be present, or have the potential for development within modern physics. These include such approaches as giving subtle forms to available energy, the activities of information and global correlations within systems and the notions of coherence whereby subtle correlations can produce powerful effects. In particular, the idea of non-logical and global correlation is discussed in the context of quantum theory and 50called Chaos Theory. Ideas of Gentle Action are also introduced and it is suggested how, through a field of global meaning (or nonlocal correlations), an active form of energy may circulate through the body and act to renew its functioning and bring the various organs into active balance. In this view, the various healing arts are designed to renew and foster the harmonious functioning of mind and body. Finally, in all appendix to this paper, a more technical account is presented of the sortS of Ilonlocal correlations that exist at the quantum level

NEUROELECTRIC THERAPY (NET) IN ADDICTION DETOXIFICATION

    Get PDF
NeuroElectric Therapy (NET) is a benign and rapid, non-pharmacological detoxification treatment for the chemical dependent, either in-patient or out-patient, using very small amounts of electric current transcranially, with electtodes applied above the mastoid process. The pocketsize stimulator is used continuously for 7 to 10 days (3-4 days for nicotine), without supplementary drugs. Within this treatment period it eliminates the acute symptoms and also ameliorates the Chtonic Withdrawal Syndrome, which otherwise could last 18 months or longer, to a very substantial degree. By the end of treatment, 95% of 102 consecutive patients claimed they were free of craving, 75% that they were free of anxiery. NET has a reported drop-out rate of 1.6% over a period of seven years. The basis of this therapeutic success has been the marriage of precision clinical techniques to highly specific combinations of electrical current parameters, both developed over 20 years of reported clinical and research work. It is suggested that the mechanism of action may be the rapid restoration to normal of abnormal neurotransmitter levels by specific electrical signals. Clinical treatments and double-blind studies are briefly described and reviewed, with new data on sleep effects

ANOMALOUS MENTAL PHENOMENA RESEARCH IN RUSSIA AND THE FORMER SOVIET UNION: A FOLLOW UP

    Get PDF
We describe our further exploration into research of anomalous mental phenomena (AMP) in the Former Soviet Union (FSU). We visited numerous research centers in major cities of Russia and the Ukraine, met with leading researchers in the field, visited their laboratories, and participated in some experiments. In their research, our Russian colleagues emphasize studies of anomalous perturbation (AP), also termed psychokinesis (PK), and "distant mental effect" on biological systems (bio-AP or bio-PK). The experiments have been conducted in top academic and research institutions, including Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University, and several research institutes of the Russian and Ukrainian Academies of Sciences. Although the quality of research varies considerably in different institutions, there are groups that have developed rigorous methodologies. We also consider the potential cultural impact on Russian AMP research. We conclude with a discussion of the causal model of AP studies vs. informationaL perceptual model in relation to the Russian research

    HUMAN POTENTIAL AND PERSONAL TRANSFORMATION

Alpha-theta neurofeedback is becoming recognized by clinicians who are engaged in its use as an extremely powerful therapeutic technique affecting both personality and human relations. Addicted dients who are followed through the course of neurofeedback training reveal changes in EEG patterns that are consistent across individuals. These changes point to a comprehensive integrative adult developmental process of psychophysiologic reorganization. Theoretical considerations proposed by James P. Henry suggest similar. parallel rransformative processes involve the brainstem as well as corrico-limbic structures. Personal and interpersonal effects of these transformarive processes include improved mental flexibiliry, humor, creativiry, and rapport with others. After treatment using alpha-theta neurofeedback, significant percentages of convicted felons with diagnosed substance abuse problems recover from addictive behavior. Note: The paper which follows represents a tribute to the ideas of Dr, James P. Henry concerning psychophysiologic development and adult human growth processes. Dr. Henry has kindly given permission for the use ofthis material including some figures from his still not widely known original book, Instinct, Archetypes and Symbols: An Approach to the Physiology ofReligious Experience, written more than 30 years ago, but finally published in 19922 This seminal conceptual work has much to say to us today, as exemplified by the usefol model it provides to explain processes revealed in the current result,· presented here. Thanks and appreciation are also noted to Roger Werholtz and Warren Berry, llI, ofthe Kansas Department ofCorrections, for arranging contractual support for the randomized controlled study described at the end of this paper
