INTERPERSONAL HEART-BRAIN REGISTRATION AND THE PERCEPTION OF PARENTAL LOVE: A 42 YEAR FOLLOW-UP OF THE HARVARD MASTERY OF STRESS STUDY
A dynamical energy systems approach to cardiac energy predicts that the registration of cardiac energy can occur between individuals, and that the degree of registration may be greater in persons who are more open to interpersonal information. As part of a 42 year follow-up to the Harvard Mastery of Stress study, 19 channels of EEG and the ECG were recorded during a 2 minute eyes closed resting baseline from 20 Harvard graduates currently in their 60's and from an experimenter who sat 3 feet in front of the subjects. Cardiac synchronized energy patterns were calculated in the subjects' EEGs separately triggered by the subjects' ECG and the experimenter's ECG. When the subjects' own ECG was used as the trigger, significant evidence of the subjects' ECG in the subjects' EEG was found, primarily in the posterior regions. When the experimenter's ECG was used as the trigger, significant evidence of the experimenter's ECG in the subjects' EEG was found, primarily in anterior regions, in subjects who rated themselves in college as having been raised by loving parents. These subjects were also significantly healthier in late adulthood than subjects who rated their parents "low in loving." Implications for theory and research in energy medicine are considered
A YOGA OF HEALING: THE PERSPECTIVE OF A THERAPEUTIC TOUCH THERAPIST
The underlying assumption of "A Yoga of Healing" is that persons who are deeply engaged in healing, also engage themselves in the self-disciplined practices of the deep inner self that define the practices of yoga. Using Therapeutic Touch as a model, healing is perceived as a personal inner quest for the understanding of foundational laws of order about the dynamics of the vitalenergy flow from a universal healing field. The characteristics of this universal healing field indicate that it is a complex of order, intelligence and compassion which instills a profound inner quietude marked by a sense of untroubled peace, equipoise and equanimity. Developing a concept of the yogi-healer, various correspondences between the practice of healing and the practice of yoga are discussed within this context
PHANTOM LIMB PAIN: SUBTLE ENERGY PERSPECTIVES
Phantom limb pain is a puzzling and debilitating condition which responds poorly to allopathic medical interventions. A reconceptualization of this disorder is proposed that integrates notions of subtle energy into an expanded multidimensional paradigm incorporating body, mind and spirit. The biomedical model of pain, perception and memory is reviewed, and found to be unable to explain various aspects of the phantom phenomenon, while the multidimensional energy approach offers explanatory power and opens the door to new therapeutic strategies. An overview of subtle energy anatomy follows, with reference to the use of Kirlian photography to detect possible electromagnetic correlates of life energy. The phenomenon of "phantom leaf" Kirlian photos is compared to phantom limb sensations in humans. Three case vignenes are presented, in which a modification of Therapeutic Touch successfully alters patient perception of phantom pain. Most strikingly, these patients are able to perceive noncontact energy interventions on their phantom limb, despite the absence of relevant portions of their nervous system. The theory of a non-neurologically based memory matrix, in accordance with holographic and non-local principles of consciousness, is outlined. Several possible mechanisms of action are proposed that can serve as the foundation for a pathophysiology of subtle energy disorders. Several research projects are suggested which can further test this model
BIOFEEDBACK AND YOGA
Early in their exploring the new field of biofeedback, Elmer and Alyce Green developed a strategy ofstudying individuals with unusual abilities in psychophysiologic self-regulation. This strategy provided a usefol way ofdetermining possibilities and limits in the new field. In the selection below, "Biofeedback and Yoga, "from The Five Minute Hour, published by Geigy Pharmaceuticals, Ardsley, New York, in 1914, Elmer Green details how this specialized area of studies developed, and what was learned from investigations with an Indian yogi, Swami Rama. rEds.

BIOFEEDBACK AND TRANSFORMATION
Selections from the Greens' next article, Biofeedback and Transformation, which appeared in The American Theosophist, comment upon how ideas from biofeedback and transpersonal psychology inter-relate and combine in useful ways. The depth of theory and understanding of the multileveled human being is exemplified by this and other articles and presentations using the «lotus diagram" as a focal point. This diagram appears in this section on page 140. A major focus that recurs in their work is a search for the nexus, the convergence, of biofeedback, transpersonal awareness, and transformation. rEds.
EFFECTS OF DISTANT HEALING INTEN'TION THROUGH TIME & SPACE: Two Exploratory Studies
Two double-blind experiments explored the effects of healing intention directed wwards a distant person. The distant person's respiration, heart rate, fingertip blood volume, and spontaneous electrodermal activity were continuously monitored during 20 randomly counterbalanced oneminute "treatment" and control epochs. The first experiment examined the effects of a group's healing intention directed in real-time at volunteers isolated 200 meters away. The second experiment studied the effects of Umbanda mediums who directed their healing intentions from Sao Paulo, Brazil wwards volunteers who wefe monitored two months earlier in Las Vegas, Nevada. The first study showed that the groups' healing intention was associated with an increase in breathing rate (p 0,053, two-tail) and a decrease in electrodermal activity (p 0.055, TWo-tail) in the distant volunteers. The second study showed that despite a separation of 6,000 miles in space and 'TWO months in time, the mediums' healing intention was associated with an increase in fingertip blood volume (p 0.013, TWo-tai/) and an increase in electrodermal activity (p 0.031, TWo-tail) in the distant volunteers. Possible alternative explanations for the reponed effects are considered, and the experimental outcomes and methodological implications are discussed
