Get PDFI write as an anthropologist who has been doing research in Brazil, other parts of South America and the Caribbean for the past three decades. After learning many years ago from colleagues in Brazil and the media about some of the rather unusual and at times spectacular healing done there, referred to by some as paranormal, I started to investigate healers, systems ofhealing and the patients receiving the healing intensively. After observing dozens of healers and interviewing hundred of their patients, I find it difficult to deny that something positive is happening that science in general and medical science in particular--as we know them-are not able to explain at this time. However, I must urge those who are generating possible explanatory hypotheses, often based on limited clinical or experimental data collected in our own society, to be cautious. Hypotheses, ofcourse, are necessary, but science further requires carefully designed experiments to test, or, in Popper's sense, falsifY them. Given what anthropologists have learned about the ways human behavior is differentially shaped and patterned by diverse cultures, I further urge that not only carefully designed protocols necessary to test hypotheses, but that these protocols must include variables to control for cultural diversity
OVERVIEW OF CURRENT PARAPSYCHOLOGY RESEARCH IN THE FORMER SOVIET UNION

The authors spent approximately two months in Russia during 1992 and 1993, interacting with researchers in Moscow and Novosibirsk. The authors primarily discuss experiments in anomalous perturbation (often referred to as psychokinesis-PK and bioPK) which have been the main focus of AMP research programs in the Soviet Union. THE NORMALIZATION OF A PERSONALITY THROUGH NEUROFEEDBACK THERAPY
Get PDFThis is a single case study of the treatment of an alcohol and Xanax dependent patient using the protocol of E. Peniston, and P. Kulkosky1,2 Neurofeedback Therapy (NT) for alcoholics. Changes are reported in the amplitude of Theta, Alpha, and Beta frequency band waves consistent with stress reduction and "normalization" of the electroencephalogram (EEG). "Normalization" in the patient's personality is demonstrated by pre and post NT assessment with The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2, The Millon Clinkal Multiaxial Inventory, The Beck Depression Inventory and The Beck Hopelessness Scale. The CZ location was utilized as the training site. A one month post-NT four day alcohol binge is reported with the expected severe flu-like symptoms. One month later a booster session was conducted
THE SUBTLE ENERGY OF LOVE
Get PDFThat love promotes health surprises few people and yet from the perspective of poets, philosophers and healers who for millennia have understood the powers of love, the scientific study of love and physical health is in its infuncy. Because love has many facets and is manifested in many ways as described here, it was banned from Western Science that insisted upon observable and simple independent variables. In this article we present data indicating the salutary effects of love on physical health; these data are from several areas-psychology, sociology, medicine, epidemiology and healing-and together form a foundation for understanding and enhancing love and its effects. Three processes are formulated to explain the health promoting effects of love-psychophysiologic, psychophysical and psychosocial/behavioral. Love is described as an energy by virtue of its capaciry to produce effects; it is subtle, not because its effects are subtle, but because it has been ineffable to science
