THE RING OF FIRE AND DHEA: A THEORY FOR ENERGETIC RESTORATION OF ADRENAL RESERVES
A pilot study is presented to make available to others an opportunity to study DHEA restoration through needle or electrical activation of 12 acupuncture points we have called The Ring of Fire. DHEA deficiency is present in every major illness. Thus DHEA restoration offers major potential for improving health and longevity
AFTER THE WHITE CROW: INTEGRATING SCIENCE AND ANOMALOUS EXPERIENCE
In this edited version of the 1996 ISSSEEM Presidential Address given at the annual conference in Boulder, Colorado, Dr. Wesch outlines some unique issues for "scientifically-inclined mystics" and "mystically-inclined scientists." The nature of anomalous experience tends to produce profound personal effects on the experiencer, creating conflicts for the supposed objectivity of the scientific method if that experiencer is also a working scientist. Using the "White Crow" metaphor from William James' 1896 Presidential Address to the Society for Psychical Research as a starting point, problems of "fear of psi," negative reactions of friends, family and colleagues, and loss of openness are explored. A personal solution to living on the bridge between the mystical and the scientific is offered
PHOTOSENSITIVE ASSESSMENT: A STUDY OF COLOR PREFERENCE, DEPRESSION AND TEMPERAMENT
This was an exploratory study (with an extensive literature review) using the Photosensitive Assessment (PA) method designed for Brief Strobic Photostimularion. Colored srrobic light was used to conduct PA of 15 extroverted/ depressed (ED), 15 introverted/depressed (ID), 15 extroverted/non-depressed (EN), and 15 introverted/non-depressed (IN) individuals. These groups were compared on the basis of their preferences for 11 colors. Significant results were found for colors ruby, yellow, yellow/green, green, red/orange, and blue. Depressed participants tended to avoid the color ruby more than the non-depressed participants. Extroverts preferred the colors yellow, yellow/green, and green more than did introverts. Red/orange was preferred more by the EN subgroup than by the ED subgroup. Blue was preferred more by the EN subgroup than the IN subgroup, and by the ID subgroup than the IN subgroup
PHOSPHENE IMAGES OF THALAMIC SLEEP RHYTHMS INDUCED BY SELF-HYPNOSIS
A medical writer describes internally-generated light sensations (phosphenes) induced by a technique of self-hypnosis that combines relaxation, convergent eye movement, and attentive fixation. The phosphene images include: (1) a threshold sequence of receding annuli, (2) amorphous phosphene mists or clouds, and (3) phosphene clouds with two levels of brightness and color saturation. These images share some similarities with visions of light reported by religious mystics. Based on an analysis of the distinctive spatiotemporal characteristics exhibited by the phosphenes. the author proposes the hypothesis that they are generated by thalamic sleep rhythms oscillating in the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN). Since humans usually lose consciousness at the onset of non-rapid-eye-movement sleep (NREMS), the author also proposes the hypothesis that his technique of phosphene induction preserves consciousness, despite the operation of thalamic sleep rhythms, because eye movements and attentive fixation send excitatory feedback to the visual pathways. This selective facilitation of visual neurons appears to preserve their signal-processing capacity even though synchronous sleep rhythms may be installed in the non-visual thalamus. The author speculates that this selective disruption of sleep rhythm activity in the visual pathways may be the mechanism that produces the cutaneous analgesia (hypnoanalgesia) he experiences when he induces phosphenes
ELECTROSTATIC BODY-MOTION REGISTRATION AND THE HUMAN ANTENNA-RECEIVER EFFECT: A NEW METHOD FOR INVESTIGATING INTERPERSONAL DYNAMICAL ENERGY SYSTEM INTERACTIONS
This paper documents that it is possible to measure electromagnetic fields created by physical movements of the human body-termed electrostatic body-motion effects-using readily available EEG amplifiers, and that it possible to measure the human body's capability to serve as an antenna and/or receiver for these electrostatic movements-termed the human antenna-receiver effect. Following the observation by Green et al (1991)1 that small body-motions could be detected by electrometers attached to copper walls, three experiments were conducted measuring the effects of hand-motions and foot-motions using DC amplifiers (the Synamps System by Neuroscan). Clear hand-motion and foot-motion effects could be recorded using a standard electrode box as an antenna. The electrostatic motion effect was attenuated as a function of distance of the motions from the electrode box, and by placing a wire mesh shield over the electrode box. The human body was discovered to funcrion as a strong antenna and/or receiver for electrostatic body-motions. The findings indicate that electrostatic body-motions and the human antenna-receiver effect are easily measurable, and may serve as a new method for investigating interpersonal dynamic energy system interactions in psychology, medicine and healing
FROM PSYCHOSOMATIC TO THEOSOMATIC: THE ROLE OF SPIRIT IN THE NEXT NEW PARADIGM
The body-mind revolution of the past four decades has had considerable impact on biomedical science, health research, and the practice of medicine. This psychosomatic approach, however, is not so much the "new paradigm" that is often heralded, as rather a transitionary perspective to a more comprehensive worldview that is beginning to emerge in biomedical discourse. The science and medicine of the 21st Century will be informed by a body-mind-spirit perspective that acknowledges the influence of God or Spirit on the functioning of the physical vehicle and its subtle emanations and fields. Such a theosornaric medicine will be a real new paradigm which promises to transform the practice of medicine, the content of biomedical research, and our understanding of disease prevention, health, and healing
