How and why should we teach environmental ethics?

    No full text
Ethics is responsibility and respect towards others.  The article summarizes the personal experience of our dear friend Martin Říha. The author is convinced that the concept of "public interest" is an enduring value regardless of regime change, and that healthy and beautiful natural environment is a "public interest" to people across the political spectrum

Environmental education from the point of view of information science

    Get PDF
Článek analyzuje vybrané otázky metodiky a cílů environmentální výchovy z pohledu informačních a komunikačních teorií.The goal of the article is to analyze some questions of environmental education from the point of view of information science. It starts with a short definition of information science and then it clearly clarifies the main areas of information and communication theories. It compares two different concepts of information: as universalia in rebus and post res. It shows that environmental education works with both of these types of information, that symbolic information plays a more important role for some activities and ‘structural’ information for others. In the second part it differentiates between mathematical and hermeneutical communication theories and clarifies the connection between communication theories and educational models. In the example of a selected environmental education program it analyzes how the program can be shaped by constructivist educational models. In the last part the article a discussion opens on the vertical and horizontal modus of communication. This discussion is connected with the question of authenticity of communication and legitimacy of environmental education. It touches on the phenomenological views of human authenticity, as an active being open to the being. The question of authenticity is linked to areas of environmental education, which is asked to be open, dialogic and authentic

Nejen politické strany, ale možná ještě více občanská sdružení mající v programu kvalifikovaně působit v oblasti udržitelného rozvoje, budou potřebovat k osvětě “tvrdá data” a údaje verifikované standardními prostředky vědy. Proto budou potřebovat špičkové odborníky v biologické, krajinné či sociální ekologii a měly by aktivněji pracovat na jejich získávání (kvalita uvnitř), aby získaly na pozadí poklesu důvěryhodnosti politických stran větší respekt navenek (kvalita vně).Environmental problems – in the context of global climate change, reduction in the capacity of the landscape to support life, resource exhaustion or lifestyle changes – have become an important political theme. At the same time, the fundamental social and economical function of universities has start to prevail. On top of this, demands on the high quality of its “outcomes” as a basic level of reliability for decision making processes grow. Universities are thus being differentiated according to their research performance (as research universities/polytechnics) – a process is especially visible in the Czech context. All stakeholders including NGOs will more require yet more “hard data” and information verified by standard procedures of science, and the need for high-level experts in all fields will grow

    Deep humanity: The religious dimension

To make more explicit what in my view the core of sustainability is, in this article I try to introduce deep humanity. Earlier in this series I considered, apart from our appreciation in life and the teacher–student relationship, sustainability as an integration of the three P’s of People, Planet and Profit by Pneuma. I will deepen the social dimension of People in imitation of deep ecology as the ecological dimension of Planet and deep economy as the economic dimension of Profit. In coherence with deep humanity I came to an end in the preceding article why the other will also be described with a capital

Doteraz som svojim príspevkom zvykol dávať prevažne optimistické názvy ako napríklad: Smerom k TU budúcnosti, Smerovanie k udržateľnému/udržateľnejšiemu regiónu XY a podobne.
