    LANGUAGE COMPETENCE OF STUDENT TOWARD RIGHT HEMISPHER BRAIN FUNCTION : A Neuropragmatic Study

    It has been known that the right hemisphere is contributed to language processing, especially in macro level, including macrostructure or discourse processing. This research is aimed at evaluating the students' ability in language processing concerning macrostructure and the right hemispher brain function. This research is based on Dharmaperwira-prins method 'Right Hemisphere Communication Assessment' (Pemeriksaan Komunikasi Hemisfer Kanan/PKHK). Research on students' ability in macrostructure processing is important to conduct since students nowadays are regarded lack of ability in well being communication. The research is conducted toward 38 students of English Department of Andalas University. The data are taken by paper test which is designed to evaluate the students' ability in macrostructure. The result of research shows that most students have problems in providing important information, adjective, and feeling. By this result, it can be assumed that the participants have problem in right hemisphere competence concerning to language processing. These problems evoke not by accident or lesion in right hemisphere, yet it is caused by brain development which is focused on left hemisphere only.     Contrastive is a study that is focused on the field of phonetics, vocabulary, grammar, etc. between two or more languages with linguistic that differentiates various activities to gain clarity on the part of the symmetric and asymmetric. In the Japanese language, the verb “memberi” and “menerima”are part of Jujudoshi verbs, which consist of 5 words to “memberi” and 2 words to menerima” whose use has tiers or in polite form (Keigo), while in Indonesian, they are only represented by “memberi” and “menerima” that have no level or in the polite form. In the Japanese, the process of “memberi” and “menerima” take the position/status of subject and object, but in Japanese, there is no level the level or in other words they do rot depend on the position or status of the subject and the cbject . The “memberi” and “menerima” words in Japanese have been already formed, whereas in Indonesian language, they are derived by adding suffixes. In terms of function, “memberi” and “menerima” in Japanese and Indonesian languages have similarities, which discloses a process of giving and taking subject and object, which subject always get benefit from the process.     The slogan of a local brand holds a special and unique role in the creation of a harmonious brand identity. Brand slogan is a phrase that is easily recognized and often remembered and accompanies a brand name in the marketing communications program areas of West Sumatra, Indonesia. The main purpose of a slogan is to support the brand image projected by the brand name and logo. The third element of this brand simultaneously gives the essence of the brand. The problem is, the government of West Sumatra has not been able to find an effective slogan, the which is able to distinguish this area from other areas. The good slogan includes the brand essence, personality, able to reveal the potential of the region and differentiate the brand and logo of a competitor. Brand name, in this case the local name must contain important nformation, especially if it is intended to break through the geographical and cultural boundaries. The cause is expected because of language contact that occurs in bilingual which causing the interplay between B1 and B2. Error analysis of Indonesian and English is a working procedure used by researcher that include the collection of samples, identification of errors contained in the sample, an explanation of the error, the error classification based on the cause, as well as the evaluation or assessment of the level of seriousness of the error. This paper further attempts to minimize the problems encountered Minangkabau people in Indonesian and English writing. Slogan which they make be expected can describe the potential their regions. This study focuses on Indonesian language error and English through slogans made in 12 counties and 7 town in West Sumatra. This paper is trying to identify and describe the mistake to write by Minangkabau people, West Sumatra in the indonesian and English through their regions slogan. The analysis showed errors caused by the interplay of language en each element of the language, such as phonology, morphology, and syntax, and lexicon. The slogan election was also based on geographical naming, legends, community action, and customs of their culture in general. This will enable academic researchers, language teachers, linguists to build a further discussion on mistake of writing Indonesian and English Minangkabau, West Sumatra

    WATAK KATO DALAM BAHASA MINANGKABAU: Sebagai Cerminan Perilaku Berbahasa Masyarkat Minangbakabau

    The inappropriate use of nick name in dialy life may lead to misunderstanding in the interaction. It is because nickname has kato character or'word of manners' in its particular use. The paper will explain the forms nickname, Kato character contained in the nickname, lexical variation and variation of use of nickname. The paper is derived from the results of our research. Technically, the data are collected by using observational method and conversational method. Proficient method can be aligned with the interview method. The analysis of the data are conducted by using editing (examining the completeness and reliability of the data) and coding (classification data). Then the process is continued by interpreting the validity of the data that has been coded along with the appropriate theories. Moreover, the data analysis is conducted by using identity method and distributional method. Based on data analysis it can be foun found the form of nickname, Kato character contained in the nickname, lexical variation and variation of use. Nickname in Minangkabau language may take either complete form or incomplete form. From both complete and incomplete forms, kato characters can be categorized into 4 types, ie.'Kato mancari kawan' (friendship nickname), 'Kato mancari lawan (insulting nickname)' Kato indak bakawan' (unfriendly nickname), and 'Kato indak Balawan' non-opponent nickname. Moreover, the nickname in Minangkabau language has lexical variation and variation of use. Lexical variation occurs because of differences in the area of ​​use, while the variation of use occurs because of certain intention. Lexical variation can also occur in the in one particular area or in same area as well as the variation of its use.

    SINGKATAN DAN AKRONIM DALAM SURAT KABAR: KAJIAN BENTUK DAN PROSES

    The reason for choosing abbreviation as the object of research is motivated by the phenomenon of widespread and high usage of abbreviation in the community, especially in the newspaper. In addition, based on the process of formation, the abbreviation used in many newspapers are not consistent with the general process of abraviation. In terms formation the abreviation in newspaper are not follow the rules of abreviation formation which violated the grammar of Bahasa Indonesia. The theory used in this research is the theory of abbreviation and formation process proposed by Kridalaksana (2010) which divides abreviation into five types, 1) abreviation, 2) acronym, 3) beheading, 4) contraction, and 5) symbol of letter. Results of the data analysis whows there are 1562 (one thousand five hundred and sixty-two) abbreviation in the newspaper with 9 (nine) processes, including three of them are new process (research findings) and 896 (eight hundred and ninety-six) acronymy used in newspapers with 31 (thirty-one) process and 19 pieces are employed new process. Thus, based on formation process of abbreviations and acronyms there are 22 (twenty-two) new processes

    Revolution of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has changed the various areas of human life, including the revolution in education. Revolution of education occurs since people migrate their way of learning from conventional to digital learning, face-to-face at a certain time and place into a meeting from anywhere and anytime. In the past we used paper, now we already headed to paperless era. Several years ago, teachers and lecturers is the source of knowledge, it is the source of knowledge can be through a variety of media, such as CD-ROMs and the Internet. The way we learn is change to distant learning with free study hour. Then, it results the term e-learning, knowledge server and knowledge based society. This article discusses how to prepare simple e-learning material (web and cd-based) about Bahasa Indonesian. The program that employs to elaborate and modify the material is Hot Potatoes which is published by the University of Victoria and the Half-Baked Software. The material of Bahasa Indonesian use in this program is a set of questions on National Examination for Selection Admissions (SPMB). These questions will create an interactive multimedia material, especially web-based and CD-based material. Modules that are discussed in this article including input of data (questions, answers, etc.), output configuration (modification of the display and appearance), as well as techniques to publish on the website. In addition, it will also discuss how to keep the material in the web and CD. The final result (output) or material output from this program is the material that can be used as in learning Bahasa Indonesian, especially for self training and test. The Output will be in the form of website and CDs

    KENDALA-KENDALA PENGAJARAN BAHASA INDONESIA DI KOREA SELATAN

    This article aims to describe the constraints of teaching Indonesian in South Korea in a qualitative and descriptive manner. They include the learning process in terms of linguistic and non-linguistic aspects. The data obtained through observation and written materials throughout the process of teaching in the Department of Interpretation and Translation of Malay-Indonesian, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Yongin, Korea and Indonesian Language Course for Regional Expert of Samsung at the same campus. The analysis results suggest that non-linguistic constraints consist of issues of cultural differences between Indonesia and Korea, strong influence of the environment that cause interference, and the negative impact of the use of the internet, especially when learners use google translation. Meanwhile, linguistic constraints include some aspects of language in the form of linguistic deviation such as language error. Frequent errors in the teaching process encompass error word choice, error sentence composition, error of affixes, and the error use of preposition

    Penelitian ini merupakan analisis terhadap penggunaan kalimat ergatif dalam tajuk berita Detik.com. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan melakukan metode simak terhadap penggunaan kalimat ergatif dalam tajuk berita Detik.com. Data kemudian dianalis dengan menggunakan pendekan sitaksis menggunakan teori Goverment and Binding (Chomsky 1981). Hasil analysis terhadap penggunaan kalimat ergatif menujukkan bahwa penggunaan kalimat ergatif  bukanlah penambahan afiks atau penggunaan leksikal tertentu, tapi adalah perlakuan FN S sama dengan FN O dan berbeda dengan FN A dengan pivot S/O. Penggunaan kalimat ergatif dalam tajuk berita bertujuan untuk mengedepankan atau menekankan peran objek sebagai inti kalimat.Â

This thesis applied case study descriptive qualitative research in which the data are obtained speech of Attention Defisit Disorder patient are receptive disorder and ekspresive (productive) disorder. The data are collected by observational and conversational method supported by participant observational, interviewing, recording, and note taking techniques. Data analysis method, it was used referential and phonetic articulator method. The results of analysis are presented by formal and informal method. After analyzing the data, it is found that language disorder at case Ichsan, there are three receptive disorder, they are sensoris perception, visual and auditoris. The form ekspresive (productive) disorder is phonetically, vowels and diphthongs do not have any disorders, meanwhile consonants are the most of consisting disorder in form of phone replacement and omission. Furthermore, phones additional and phone irrigularity do not occur in Ichsan speech. Language disorder at case Ichsan is caused by heredity factor, disorder speech articulatory, mental retadration, disorder brain, aphasia, receptive, celebral palsy, deprivasi psychosocial, lonely environment, economy social factor, and the habit of incompletely chewed food
