Os estudos diacrônicos na formação do professos de Letras-Português
Diachronic linguistic studies are fundamental to the teaching-learning process of the mother tongue. The absence of a historical approach can harm or limit the analysis of linguistic facts and be the cause of insufficient training for teachers in the area. The historicity of Latin teaching in Brazil, from its implementation to its decline, in national curricular matrices, helps to understand the urgency of its valorization as a requirement for the effectiveness of diachronic studies in the curriculum of Literature courses. This article aims to highlight the presence of Latin in Portuguese through the analysis of pre-selected Latin etyms. Bibliographical research applied to corpus analysis is based on the theoretical alignment between historical linguistics and sociolinguistics, taking into account the abundance of lexical variation found in any living language. To achieve the proposed objective, it was necessary to establish the historical path of each lexicon, taking as a starting point the Latin etymon, which promotes a group of words linked to specific semantic fields, in order to first attest to the spelling of certain words standards and according to the legitimacy of non-standard forms. To clarify these issues, the contributions of Viaro (2013), Bagno (2022), Ilari and Basso (2012), among others, are used.
This research, of a qualitative, bibliographic-documentary and analytical-interpretative nature, aims to analyze gender relations based on the short story “Hipólito”, written by Sonia Coutinho and present in the work “The Last Summer of Copacabana”, published in 1985. In this work, the objective was, based on authors such as Helena (1989), Scott (1995) Welzer-Lang (2001) and Zinani (2015), to problematize gender relations in the narrative, as well as to indicate the interdependence of these relations in view of that the behaviors established by the protagonist and her “lover” are constructs of a patriarchal and heteronormative society that needs, in turn, to be validated within a social body. That said, it was found that the narrative constructed by Coutinho (1985), responsible for emitting a female voice, presents the social and everyday expectations given to gender and sexuality, in addition to metaphorizing the need for female bodies to be validated, due, above all, to the misogynistic system in which these are represented, constructed.

Aesthetic Dentistry - What You Decided and What I Want: Shade Selection
Objective: To assess the relationship between patients\u27 and dentists’ perceptions of shade selection and its impact on satisfaction with the prosthesis. Material and Methods: A single group pre-post study was conducted at the Prosthodontics department of a teaching hospital in India. One hundred ten participants were selected through a systematic random sampling technique with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Patients\u27 attitudes regarding the aesthetics of their maxillary anterior teeth were recorded using a validated questionnaire. Shades for the intended prosthetic crown selected by the dentist and chosen by the patient were recorded separately, and patient satisfaction with the appearance of the final prosthesis was recorded. We used descriptive statistics followed by Pearson’s Chi-square test and a binomial logistic regression model for inferential statistics. Results: 109 participant’s data were available for final analysis. Patients choose lighter shades than the dentist’s selection, which is statistically significant (p=0.000). 73.4% were satisfied with the final prosthesis, and the binomial logistic regression model identified using patient-selected shade for the final prosthesis was significantly associated with patients\u27 satisfaction with the final prosthesis (OR=3.3, p=0.001). Conclusion: The patient\u27s preference should be considered with the dentist\u27s option when selecting a shade to create good esthetics
CTZ and Calcium Hydroxide Pastes Did Not Cause Hepatic and Renal Alterations in Mice
Objective: To evaluate the possible renal and hepatic alteration by root canal filling pastes in mice. Material and Methods: Fifty-four mice were divided into nine groups and received one polyethylene tube implant containing two filling pastes (CTZ or calcium hydroxide pastes). Empty polyethylene tubes were used as a negative control. All tubes were implanted subcutaneously in the back of the mice. After time intervals of 7, 21, and 63 days, 1.5 mL of blood was collected by cardiac puncture, and serum samples were used for serological testing. Urea, creatinine, aspartate transferase (AST), alanine transferase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) were evaluated. Data were analyzed by 2-way ANOVA (p<0.05). Results: When comparing CTZ and calcium hydroxide pastes and empty tubes and experimental time intervals, no significant differences in the results were found for any of the biochemical parameters analyzed (p>0.05). No differences were observed in the interactions (material*experimental time intervals) and the biochemical parameters analyzed (p>0.05). Conclusion: CTZ and calcium hydroxide pastes did not cause hepatic and renal alterations in mice, demonstrating the pastes\u27 safety
Which Dental Procedures Lead to Greater Distress During Children’s Dental Treatment? A Cohort Study
Objective: To assess children\u27s self-reported distress during dental procedures and investigate risk factors. Material and Methods: A total of 163 children (3–10 years old) were included from a clinical trial on diagnostic strategies for evaluating restorations in primary teeth. Treatment plans were elaborated based on the clinical examination performed at the baseline of the study. Dentists performed 742 dental procedures, and an external evaluator collected children\u27s self-reported distress through the Wong Backer Facial Scale (WBFS) and dentists\u27 opinions about children\u27s behavior during the treatment. Kruskal-Wallis Test was performed to compare the distress and the dentists\u27 perception of the different dental procedures, and multilevel ordered logistic regression analysis was conducted to the evaluate association between explanatory variables and the outcomes. Results: More complex procedures caused more distress in children (p=0.017), with a 5.5 times higher risk than simple operative treatments. Similarly, dentists reported children\u27s worse behavior (p<0.001). Older children (older than 7 years) reported less distress than younger children (OR 0.52; CI 0.30-0.87; p=0.014). Patients reported greater distress in the first consultations, reducing the chance of higher scores by 16% in the next interventions. Conclusion: Children experience higher levels of distress during their first treatment appointments. More complex operative procedures and the child\u27s age below 7 years were risk factors associated with greater distress during dental treatment
Susceptibility Polymorphism in the Promoter Region of IL-4 and IL-13 in Individuals with Periodontitis: A Systematic Review
Objective: To understand the susceptibility to single nucleotide polymorphisms in the promoter region of Interleukin-4 (IL-4) and Interleukin-13 (IL-13) in patients with and without periodontal disease. Thus, a systematic review of available studies on the subject was performed. Material and Methods: A protocol was conducted for registration in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO) under CRD42021246646. For this search, studies were selected from the Scopus, Web of Science, Virtual Health Library, Embase, Cochrane Library, and PubMed databases. The selection criteria consisted of case-control and cohort studies published in English that had data on IL-4 and IL-13 genetic polymorphisms in patients with and without periodontal disease in the same study. The obtained studies were managed by EndNote Program™ X7 version and the Rayyan Platform. Regarding the risk of bias, we used the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale, which classified the studies using high-quality methodology. Results: After the selection process, three studies presented the eligibility criteria. No relation between IL-13 and susceptibility to periodontal disease was found. IL-4 gene (IL-4 -590C/T; IL-4-34C/T; rs2243248) was associated with susceptibility to the development of periodontitis. Conclusion: An association between IL-4 and the susceptibility of periodontitis was verified. Further case-control studies are needed to create more concrete conclusions on the subject
Does Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy Influence the Bond Strength of Direct Restorative Materials to Healthy and Decayed Dentin? A Systematic Review
Objective: To evaluate the influence of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) on the bond strength of adhesive restorative materials to healthy and caries-affected dentin. Material and Methods: 04 electronic databases and 02 additional searches were assessed. In vitro studies considering sound or caries-affected human or bovine dentin (population), use of aPDT before restorative treatment (intervention), use of other dentin disinfection techniques (comparison), and bond strength to dentin (outcome) were included. The risk of bias for in vitro studies was used as a method to check the evidence. The method used to present and synthesize results was data extraction. Results: The total number of included studies was 11, including 550 permanent teeth. Bond strength was evaluated mainly through the shear bond strength (SBS) test, with dentin affected by caries being the substrate most frequently used in studies. Six studies demonstrated that aPDT with methylene blue (MB) negatively affected the SBS values of resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) to dentin. Regarding risk of bias assessment, all studies were at high risk of bias. Conclusion: The effects of aPDT on adhesion to dentin vary depending on the type of substrate and the photosensitizer used. Mainly, MB negatively affected the SBS values from RMGIC to dentin. The conclusion should be interpreted considering the high risk of bias in the studies
Impact of Parents’ Positive Attitude on the Pacifier Sucking Habit Duration and Occurrence of Anterior Open Bite in Children: A Cross-Sectional Survey
Objective: To investigate the influence of the parents´ attitude on the duration of the pacifier sucking habit and the occurrence of anterior open bite (AOB) in children. Material and Methods: A population-based cross-sectional study was conducted in Ribeirão das Neves, Brazil, including 497 children aged 4-6 years. The pacifier use was reported by the parents and categorized as "never used", "used up to 24 months" and "used more than 24 months". Perceived parental positive attitude was measured by two self-reported questions "I have enough energy to do what has to be done" and "I have self-discipline”. Socioeconomic variables were collected. Children were examined by two examiners to the diagnosis of AOB according to Forster and Hamilton criteria. Adjusted logistic and multinomial regressions were performed (p<0.05). Results: Children who used pacifiers more than 24 months were 6.21 times more likely to have AOB than those who did not use pacifier (95%CI: 2.98–12.92). Children who discontinued pacifier use within 24 months had parents with higher energy than those who keep the habit for more than 24 months (OR:1.22; 95%CI: 1.01–1.47). Parents from children who never used or used pacifier for less than 24 months were more self-disciplined than those who used for more than 24 months (OR: 1.18; 95%CI: 1.01–1.37; OR: 1.29; 95%CI: 1.06–1.56). Conclusion: High energy and self-discipline of parents were active factors in the discontinuation of pacifier sucking habit in less than 24 months
Regional Inequalities in the Availability of Equipment, Supplies and Specialized Reference in Oral Radiology in Brazilian Primary Health Care
Objective: To analyze the availability of equipment, supplies and specialized reference in oral radiology in primary care health by comparing Brazilian geographic regions. Material and Methods: The time series analysis was carried out with secondary data extracted from official databases of the Brazilian Ministry of Health of the external evaluation cycles of the National Program for Improvement of Access and Quality of Primary Health Care (PMAQ-AB). The comparisons of Brazilian regions were performed using Chi-square and Z tests adjusted by the Bonferroni method, and among cycles (years) using the Cochran\u27s Q test (p<0.05). Results: In Brazil, there was an increase in the availability of X-ray equipment between 2014 and 2018 (21.9% vs. 36.3%), and supplies where there was X-ray equipment, which included lead aprons (75.6% vs. 86.4%), dark chamber (darkroom) (86.4% vs. 93.9%) and chemical products for the X-ray film processing (80.7% vs. 86.1%) (p<0.001). The specialized reference in oral radiology was higher in 2018 (71.4%) compared to 2012 (46.8%) and 2014 (66.9%) (p<0.001), with the same trend in the Northeast region (p<0.001). North and Northeast showed growing numbers for most items evaluated, with a reduction in regional inequalities. Conclusion: The availability of equipment, supplies, and specialized reference among Brazilian regions increased. Although regional inequalities persist in Brazil, a reduction was observed in the analyzed period
