Horseradish Peroxidase and CD146 Reaction of Deciduous Teeth Pulp Stem Cells
To isolate high-quality human postnatal stem cells from accessible resources is an important goal for stem-cell research. Extracted / exfoliated human deciduous tooth contains multipotent stem cells. Normal deciduous teeth from 6-8 years of age, with more than half the tooth root were extracted in the Pedodontics department. Cells from the enzyme treated pulps were cultured and cells obtained from subsequent healthy colonies were combined for cell surface markers determination process. Cells were positive for CD146 marker, cells also demonstrated horseradish peroxidase (HRP) activity. These findings hold good that dental pulp seem to have derived from neural crest. Evaluation of Radioprotective Effects of Tinospora Cordifolia in Patients on Radiotherapy for Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Head & Neck –A Pilot Study
Late complications of radiotherapy like mucositis & xerostomia are dose limiting & normally irreversible, leading to permanent incapability and to a worsening of quality of life. There is no ideal radioprotector available & Tinospora cordifolia has been found to be an effective radioprotector. This study evaluates the radioprotective effect of Tinospora cordifolia in patients on radiotherapy for head & neck cancers. Objectives: To evaluate the radioprotective effect of Tinospora cordifolia in patients undergoing radiotherapy for head & neck cancers by measuring i) Whole Stimulated Saliva & ii) Grading of Oral Mucositis as per WHO. Methodology: 15 patients were randomly allotted to the study & control groups. Each patient selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, given about 20gms of the drug Tinospora cordifolia along with honey in the study group and Bajra (Pearl millet) flour(Pennisetum glaucum) along with syrup as placebo in the control group for 8 weeks starting from 15 days prior to the commencement of radiotherapy and continued till the completion of prescribed dose of radiotherapy. The effectiveness of Tinospora cordifolia was evaluated by 1) Measuring the whole stimulated saliva by making the patient chew on bits of rubber & collecting by expectoration into wide mouthed graduated tubes over 5 minute period. 2) Mucositis was evaluated using The W.H.O. grading system. Measurements were recorded before & after radiotherapy. Results: There was statistically significant improvement in the WSS & statistically significant decrease in severity of mucositis in the study group compared to the control group. Hemangiomatous Ameloblastoma: A case report of a rare variant of ameloblastoma
A hemangiomatous ameloblastoma was present in the premolar-molar region of the left mandible of a 31 year old man. The histological and radiographic features of this tumor differed from those of a conventional ameloblastoma. Its histopathologic features were consistent with those of a hemangiomatous ameloblastoma, and its standard radiologic features and computed tomography mimicked that of cystic lesions. The behavior and prognosis of the hemangiomatous ameloblastoma are uncertain because of the small number of documented cases and lack of long-term follow-up, but are thought to be similar to those of the conventional type. Cheiloscopy: Efficacy of Flouroscent dye over lysochrome dye in developing invisible lip prints
Cheiloscopy deals with examination of system of furrows on the red part of human lips and is an important tool in forensic science. The investigation of lip prints (both visible and latent) can thus be fundamental in resolving a criminal act. Traditional lipstick produces a print that is easily identifiable. However, lip prints made without lipstick are invisible, requiring reagents that are more sensitive than conventional materials to locate and develop the prints.This study analyzes and compares the effectiveness of lysochrome dyes (Sudan III, Oil Red O, and Sudan black) and fluorescent dyes on latent lip prints.Keywords: cheiloscopy, latent lip prints, lysochrome dye, fluorescent dy
Sealing ability of newer generation bonding agents in primary teeth - an in vivo study
Aim: The purpose of the study was to compare the ability of Xeno III (sixth generation dentin bonding agent) to iBond (seventh generation dentin bonding agent) in reducing microleakage around class V composite resin restorations in primary teeth.Methods: Twelve healthy, cooperative children, between 8-11 years of age, with non carious primary canines indicated for extraction for orthodontic purposes, were selected for this study. Each child had class V cavities prepared on the facial surfaces of his or her upper and/or lower canines. Xeno III was used in Group I (15 teeth) and iBond was used in Group II (15 teeth). All the cavities were restored using the same composite material (Esthet X). All teeth were extracted one month later, immersed in 2% basic fuchsin dye, sectioned and evaluated under stereomicroscope for dye penetration.Results: No statistically significant difference was found in the degree of microleakage between the two materials.Conclusion: The two adhesives tested in this in vivo study, Xeno III and iBond, performed equally well in terms of microleakage in primary teeth. Considering the single step application of iBond with similar efficacy, without requiring the additional mixing step of Xeno III, it would be more convenient to use the seventh generation adhesive for restorative treatment in pediatric patients
Prosthodontic rehabilitation with Preci-Clix Overdenture system – A Case Report
Tooth loss has a negative impact on masticatory function, aesthetics, and self-image. Fixed partial dentures, removable partial dentures, complete dentures, and implant-supported dentures can replace missing teeth, but it is not known whether they differ in their ability to reconstruct the masticatory force and preservation of residual bone ridge. An overdenture is a complete or removable partial denture that has one or more abutment tooth or implants to provide a support. Moreover the shortened crown also changes the crown to root ratio thus the reduced mobility of the tooth facilitate ridge preservation, improves the bone support. Overdentures maintain proprioception of teeth and improve stability and retention. Overdenture is preventive prosthodontics concept involving the multidisciplinary approach involving periodontic, endodontic & prosthodontics intervention. Prefabricated attachments are versatile and provide considerable retention and stability.This case report of patient with few teeth remaining has been treated with overdenture supported with preci-clix overdenture attachments

Maxillary First Molar with Two Palatal Canals within a Single Root : A Case Report
Aim and Objective: The aim of this case report is to describe an unusual maxillary first molar with two palatal canals within a single root. Case description: The maxillary left first molar of a male patient was root canal treated. The five canals ( Mesiobuccal 1, Mesiobuccal 2, Distobuccal, Palatal 1 and Palatal 2) were identified and instrumented using Protaper Rotary NiTi files and obturated. Conclusion: This case provides an evidence of variations in the root canals in palatal root of maxillary first molar. Vacuolated cells and mucous metaplasia in the epithelial lining of radicular and residual cysts
Abstract:Aims and objectives-Radicular cysts are the most common odontogenic inflammatory cysts occurring in the oral cavity, usually in the maxillary anterior region. The lining is derived from epithelial cell rests of Malassez in the periodontal ligament after death of the pulp. The purpose of this study is to determine the association between mucous cells and clear or vacuolated cells in the epithelial linings of radicular and residual cysts and to consider whether the vacuolated cells represent a stage in the histogenesis of mucous metaplasia in these linings.Methods- 75 confirmed cases of both mandibular radicular and residual cysts were taken for the study to observe the presence of mucus producing and vacuolated cells.Conclusion: This morphological study illustrates a relationship between mucous and vacuolated cells and supports that the process is a metaplastic one
