Chikungunya Fever: An Update For The Oral Health Care Practitioner
Get PDFChikungunya fever is an acute self limiting viral disease caused by a virus of the same name. This fever, which is transmitted by the mosquito Aedes aegypti, has reached epidemic proportions in the last few years, after being quiet for a few decades. The disease is characterised by a triad of fever, joint pains and maculopapular rash. Oral manifestations have been reported as a part of the spectrum of mucocutaneous findings of this disease. This article attempts to highlight these oral lesions and thus increase the awareness of the oral health care practitioner regarding this debilitating disease

Get PDFOral malodour (OM) has been recognized in the literature since ancient times, but only in the last 15 years it has come to the forefront of public and dental professional awareness.At least 50% of the population suffers from a chronic OM condition, causing personal discomfort and social embarrassment that often lead to emotional distress. Moreover, the consequences of OM may be more than social in that it may be a symptom of serious local/systemic conditions. Non Syndromic Bilateral Dentigerous Cysts: An Unusual Case Report
Get PDFDentigerous cysts are odontogenic developmental cyst, which mostly surround the crown of unerupted teeth, odontomas, or supernumerary teeth. These cyst are mostly solitary in occurrence, their bilateral presentation is rare, especially in the absence of syndromes like Monteaux-Lamy, Basal cell nevus or Cleidocranial dysplasia. Non syndromic bilateral cysts show a predilection for the mandibular first molar area. We present a unusual case of a 11-year-old girl presenting with bilateral radiolucencies in associated with unerupted mandibular second premolars that were diagnosed histopathologically as dentigerous cysts
Soft tissue response and esthetics in anterior single tooth implant restorations - A cross-sectional study
No full textAbstract: Aims & Objectives: The aim of this study is to evaluate the peri-implant soft tissue in terms of fullness, absence of inflammation, regeneration and maintenance by using the Jemt Index. Materials and Method: 12 patients (age ranges 22-38yrs) with missing anterior teeth were selected for implant placement. All implants were restored with an immediate temporary acrylic prosthesis and a final metal ceramic restoration. Papilla index scores were assessed by clinical examination and photographs. Results: All 8 maxillary restorations and 3 of 4 mandibular restorations exhibited a Jemt score of 3. Cumulative Jemt papilla index scores illustrate that there was a complete papilla fill in 91.6%. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, it can be concluded that narrow profile implants can be considered as a promising treatment option for anterior single tooth restoration
Hepatitis B awareness among the dental professionals, students and dental hygienists in a dental school- An epidemiological study
No full textHepatitis B (HBV) is an endemic and a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among Indians. The present study was designed to evaluate the degree of awareness and knowledge of HBV in dentist, dental students and dental hygienist. Associations were assessed using X2 testing .Results showed that even though that respondents were educated and have awareness about Hepatitis B infection still they were not very much aware about the gravity of the situation. A HBV education is necessary .Programs should target health professionals, younger individuals, less educated adults and elaborate on the potential serious health consequences of HBV. Vehicles for public education should include the physicians' offices and media. Key words: Hepatitis B, health awareness, dental school. 
Autistic Child – Does Management Differ?
No full textAutism is an Intellectual Development disorder characterized by severe deficit in social interaction and communication. A wide spectrum of medical and behavioral symptoms is exhibited by these children. They experience more dental problems as they are not able to verbalize complaints about any dental problems they may be experiencing. An autistic child can display a variety of behaviors and reactions that can complicate oral health care in such patient. Treating an Autistic child will be both challenging and rewarding to a pediatric dentist. Autism is one of the rare disorders which cannot be diagnosed at ease. So as a pedodontist it becomes our duty to be thorough with the symptoms as well as diagnostic aspects of the disease. The various correlates of the disorder and their value in the clinical practice are emphasized in this paper. Effectiveness of Micronutrients and Physiotherapy in the Management of Oral Submucous Fibrosis
No full textAim - Evaluation of the effectiveness of micronutrients andphysiotherapy in the management of patients with oral submucousfibrosis.Materials and methods – 64 patients with oral submucous fibrosiswere randomly divided in three groups. Group l patients receivedmicronutrients along with physiotherapy exercises. Group IIpatients were advised physiotherapy exercises. Group III patientswere given micronutrients supplements. These patients wereevaluated at 1, 3 & 6 weeks.Results – Kruskal - Wallis test was used for statistical evaluation.Mouth opening values for the patients of group I showed significantimprovement at the end of 6 weeks as compared to the initialmouth opening. Values in group II showed least improvement.Conclusion – Micronutrients along with physiotherapy should beused as a first line of treatment in the management of patients withoral submucous fibrosis.Clinical significance – Conservative management withmicronutrients and physiotherapy is very effective for oralsubmucous fibrosis.Keywords – oral submucous fibrosis, micronutrient

Esthetic Intraradicular Rehabilitation Of Grossly Decayed Anterior Teeth With Fibre Reinforced Composite Post - A Case Report
No full textTraumatized or badly broken down teeth due to caries require quick functional and esthetic repair. As there is a loss of structural integrity, loss of moisture and loss of dentin toughness in endodontically treated teeth, it necessitates special care during treatment and also it has been said that these teeth have a reduced level of proprioception which could impair normal protective reflexes. Restoration of endodontically treated teeth should aim at replacing the missing tooth structure, maintain function, esthetics and protect against fracture and infection. One of the modern methods of restoring badly broken down endodontically treated teeth is metal-free fibre reinforced composite posts (FRC). This clinical case report describes the restoration of infected anterior teeth with esthetic FRC post system.
