Water for Living in the Amu-Darya(riv.) Basin
Usage and quality of water for living were investigated in the basins of the Amu-Darya(riv.) and the Karakum canal. The residents of this area used groundwater or piped water for cooking, washing and drinking, and the water had permanent hardness. Karakum Canal reaches across southern Turkmenistan from the Amu-Darya. The piped water of the area showed 49-83 ms/m of electric conductivity and had neither NO^-_2 nor NH^+_4. The groundwater used in the lower reaches of the Amu-Darya showed over 1000 mg/L of total hardness and contained NO^-_3, NO^-_2, and NH^+_4. There is concern of serious health impairment led by possible groundwater pollution by chemical fertilizers and domestic sewage. People should be more aware of saving water since the leakage of water from faucets or feeding pipes was often found.12KJ00005073333研究ノートResearch Notejournal articl
A Historical Study on the Theory and Philosophy of Statistical Inference by W. S. Gosset
The main purpose of this paper is to clarify the theoretical and philosophical idea of statistical inference by W.S. Gosset who is one of most famous statisticians in 20th century. In general, his discovery of t distribution may be regarded as one of most important contributions to mathematical statistics. However, the author denies this appreciation to W.S. Gosset, because t distribution was discovered by German mathematician, J. Luroth before W.S. Gosset. Then, the author tried to analyse the theoretical and philosophical differences among the statistical inferences by K. Pearson, R.A. Fisher and W.S. Gosset.10KJ00004508460研究論文Research Paperjournal articl

Nutrition Education with Lunch Box Menu : Part 3
The 75 students majoring in Food and Nutrition at our university came to be able to grasp a whole amount of food and the sense of balance of the dish by using the lunch box meal method, and whether the proper quantity was understood by each student was examined. The result was as follows. 1) Three kinds of lunch boxes (360ml,520ml,650ml) were prepared, and lunch was prepared as in daily life. It was admitted that the capacity and the amount of energy were almost the same. 2) The proper size for students was 520ml among the three types of lunch boxes. 3) As to PFC energy ratio, the three lunch boxes satisfied the amounts of the target sufficiently. 4) The student who had chosen the proper quantity of lunch box was 45.3%. 5) We asked the students to estimate the energy amount of the lunch they selected, and the most common answer was 400~800kcal for all the types of lunch boxes. 6) When the student was requested to choose the surface area ratio of the lunch boxes, the ideal ratio, the staple food: main dish: side dish = 3:1:2, was about 40%.12KJ00005175641journal articl
On Searching the Relationship among the Poverty, Youth Unemployment and Education in Sri Lanka
Poverty has been a main developing issue in Sri Lanka for decades, and the government had been introducing various programs to respond to this issue. However, the poverty remains as a significant social problem in many parts of the country. Poverty is also related to the high unemployment rate of the youth. This paper has identified education as one of the main reasons for the poverty in this country. The unemployment rate of the youth who have completed the higher secondary level has been on increase in the recent years. The general education up to the secondary level in Sri Lanka has shown a satisfactory situation within the country and, this situation is superior to many other developing countries in Asia. However, the situation of tertiary level of education has been extremely weak. In addition, vocational education also has been poor, both in terms of "quantity" and "quality". The higher level of achievement in the secondary education has not geared to the development of the country as the number of jobs available for the educated youth is insufficient. Likewise, the youth are unable to start their-own business enterprises due to the lack of "applied knowledge" required to manage a business. In addition, it seems that the issue of poverty has been misused by the politicians to gain and maintain the power, without showing a keen interest to resolve this problem of the country. The author conducted an empirical survey in several "least developed villages" in the North Western Province, which represents the 3rd largest provincial poverty population, for searching an effective mean for addressing the poverty problem. Vocational training programs conducted by a Japanese NGO were focused for this survey. It was found that those training programs organized according to the real requirements and the demands of the rural youth had been successfully contributed to the empowerment of the youth in the both economical and social aspects. The author suggests that the empowerment of the youth can be more effective for solving the poverty problem than introducing income- or food-supplementary assistance programs linked with the short-sighted political objectives and, more attention is needed to introduce suitable vocational and higher learning programs for the youth who have completed the secondary education. International cooperation activities, both by foreign governments and NGOs, can be considered very significant in the solving of poverty problem in this country.5KJ00004508455研究論文Research Paperjournal articl
