On the Passive Use of Verbs Meaning Blame, Demand, and Suit in Newspaper Headlines
Get PDFReaders are likely to notice scandalous headlines and articles, which include the chiefs of states, government dignitaries, public figures, nations, public institutions and so on. It is certain that readers often take notice of celebrated and well-known people and institutions. Past participles frequently occur in the newspaper headlines and are often associated with categories which mean blame, demand, and suit, as well as scandalous situations. They are classified, analyzed, and examined based on grammatical and information structure. Sometimes by-phrases of agents can be found in the headlines. However, they are often omitted as redundant. Free Talking in a Japanese Conversation Class with Assessment Portfolios : An Investigation into Teacher Support for Learner Autonomy
Get PDF「日本語で自由に話したい」という学習者のニーズに応えるため,学部一年生向け日本語科目「会話II」において,フリートークを中心とした教室活動を行った.ポートフォリオの利用により,学習者がそれぞれ目標を設定し,達成の過程をチェックしながら自律的に学んでいけることを目指した.毎時間の授業では,学習者の話題提供に続いてフリートークが行われ,翌週,他の学習者による相互評価の平均点とコメント一覧,パフォーマンスについての教師のコメントとアドバイスが渡された.二回の話題提供と最終発表,学習者による自己評価のレポートを分析した結果,学習者が「自律学習力」を持つこと,活動が肯定的に評価されていることが確認されたが,一方,活動に対する消極的な姿勢もみられた.自己評価に慣れていない学習者が「自律的に学ぶ」しくみにおいては,学習者は負担,戸惑い,圧力を感じる.学習者の自律学習を支える活動は,教師と学習者の間の信頼関係が成立していることが前提条件となる.14KJ00004508464研究論文Research Paperjournal articl
An Approach to the Introduction of English Speech Practice in ESP Education : A Study from "My Dream" Speeches at a Hairdressing College
Get PDFThis paper explores some benefits, and instructional approaches, related to the introduction of English speech practice, especially in the ESP (English for Specific Purposes) educational field. An ESP program offered at a hairdressing college is referred to as an example. One principal benefit, which English speech practice in ESP classes brings out, is to reinforce learners' awareness of their "instrumental need" to learn ESP. An investigation conducted herein shows that in introducing English speech practice in ESP classes, especially at the beginner's English level, instructors are required to deliberate if they need to provide a subtitle and/or supplementary instructions to explain a speech assignment.
