IMPACT OF AIR POLLUTANTS ON CHILDREN'S RESPIRATORY HEALTH (CASE STUDY: INDUSTRIAL AREA)

    No full text
The fifth biggest cause of death globally due to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, air pollution has been steadily increasing over the last several years. This article's goal is to provide a synopsis of a number of pertinent studies that discuss the concentration of pollutants caused by industrial emissions, the impact of being close to the industry, and the consequences of these variables on respiratory health. A systematic review approach is used in this piece. Three scientific databases—ProQuest, PubMed, and ScienceDirect—conducted a literature search for articles published during the last decade. Study participants had to be either children or teenagers, there had to be at least one site in an industrial region, the study had to deal with respiratory symptoms, respiratory illness, and/or pulmonary function testing. Only seven papers out of two hundred and twenty-two were ultimately considered for inclusion in the systematic review. Both pollution concentrations and children's respiratory difficulties are shown to be greater in locations close to industries as opposed to places further away, according to the included publications

In the herbal plants of jambu bol (Syzygium malaccense L.) and manila sapodilla (Manilkara zapota L.), especially in the leaves of the plant, it contains very strong antioxidants. According to research by Zaen Devi Maulani and Ekayanti Meiliza, the antioxidant activity value of ethanol extract of jambu bol leaves (Syzygium malaccense L.) is 3.297 ± 2.595 ppm and for ethanol extract of manila sapodilla leaves (Manilkara zapota L.) is 8.2786 μg/mL. The antioxidant activity of a compound is said to have very strong antioxidants if the IC₅₀ value is less than 50 ppm, strong IC₅₀ if the IC₅₀ value ranges from 50-100 ppm, moderate if the IC₅₀ value ranges from 100-150 ppm, and weak if the IC₅₀ value ranges from 150-200 ppm. This study is an experimental laboratory by measuring the antioxidant activity value (IC₅₀) using different solvents in the combination of the two simplicia and the toxicity concentration of the combination of the two simplicia using the CCK-8 assay method. The samples used were tested for determination to determine and ensure that the materials used were the correct samples to be tested and made into extracts. Furthermore, the extraction of samples with solvents was concentrated with a rotary evaporator to separate the active substances and solvents. The results of this study indicate that there is no significant difference in the antioxidant activity of the combination of jambu bol leaf extract (Syzygium malaccense L.) and manila sapodilla leaf extract (Manilkara zapota L.) in the positive control (ascorbic acid). There is a significant difference in the cytotoxicity of jambu bol leaf extract (Syzygium malaccense L.) and manila sapodilla leaf extract (Manilkara zapota L.) in the positive control (DMSO) on the viability of HSC-3 cells. The combination of jambu bol leaf extract (Syzygium malaccense L.) and sapodilla leaf extract (Manilkara zapota L.) at a concentration of 5-160 µg/mL did not show any cytotoxic effect on the viability of HSC-3 cells

    No full text
The relationship between Islam and science remains a strategic focus in Islamic higher education institutions. This study examines the implementation of Nidal Guessoum’s epistemic-ethical coexistence model in enhancing the religious-scientific literacy of students at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar. Using a qualitative-exploratory design, data were collected through interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis, then analyzed thematically. The majority of respondents recognized the importance of integration, although their understanding of it varied. When Islamic values were directly linked with scientific concepts, student participation and critical reflection increased, especially on environmental and technological issues. Furthermore, 74% of students indicated that this approach helped unify rationality and faith. However, the main challenges stemmed from limited interdisciplinary competence among lecturers and inconsistent institutional policy support. Nevertheless, the findings indicate significant opportunities to strengthen religious-scientific literacy through integrative curriculum policies and targeted faculty training. This study affirms that integrating science and religion is not only feasible but also effective in fostering a holistic conceptual and spiritual understanding. The study also recommends longitudinal research to evaluate the long-term impact on students’ scientific and ethical competencies as well as on society at large

Prophetic-based education: Enhancing self-regulated learning in digital era through patience values

    No full text
The digital era presents major challenges for students in developing Self-Regulated Learning (SRL), particularly due to digital distractions, an instant gratification culture, and weak self-control. This article aims to conceptually explore how the internalization of the value of patience (ṣabr) within the framework of prophetic education can strengthen students’ SRL abilities. Using a library research method, this study examines literature related to SRL, the Islamic concept of patience, and the prophetic education approach. The results of the study show that prophetic education is the basis that the value of patience has a role in building SRL. The first hadith is related to the value of patience that will bring victory, relevant to goal setting and a gradual learning process. The second hadith, patience is afflicted with difficulties and fatigue will erase sins, relevant to instilling values to always strive to evaluate every learning process even though it is difficult. The third hadith is about the value of patience to control anger, relevant to maintaining internal motivation in learning so that it is not easy to give up when facing difficulties and obstacles. So, students need patience to be able to regulate the difficult learning process. Therefore, strengthening SRL requires not only cognitive strategies but also value-based approaches that address the affective and spiritual dimensions of learners. This article offers a conceptual contribution to the development of an integrative Islamic education model that responds to the challenges of the digital age through a prophetic, value-oriented approach centered on patience. The Ratio of Live Load to Dead Load on I-Girder Prestressed Concrete Bridges Using Theoretical and Numerical Analysis

    No full text
Bridges are essential connectors between regions separated by geographical barriers, facilitating transport across national, provincial, and district roads. In Indonesia, the prestressed I-girder concrete bridge (PCI-Girder) is a widely used design, particularly for spans between 20 and 45 meters. These bridges are a common choice in toll road development projects, part of the national strategic plan to promote regional equity and support economic growth. Seismic loads influence the PCI-Girder bridge superstructure less, allowing consistent design practices concerning cross-sectional dimensions and concrete quality relative to span length. However, girder profiles and spacing variations have become prominent in Indonesia, significantly impacting load distribution and bridge performance. This study examines the effects of live load relative to dead load on PCI-Girder bridges with girder spacing variations of 1850 mm, 2100 mm, and 2450 mm for spans ranging from 20 to 45 meters, based on SNI 1725-2016 standards. Using theoretical calculations in Microsoft Excel and numerical analysis with Midas Civil software, the study highlights the influence of girder spacing on effective area, strand requirements, camber, and beam stress post-tensioning. The findings indicate that increased girder spacing enhances the effective area of composite sections but requires larger strand areas and higher concrete strength. Moment analysis reveals that for spans over 20 meters, dead load moments dominate live load moments, whereas for 20-meter spans, live load moments are more significant. As span length increases, the influence of dead loads becomes more prominent. The 2450 mm spacing variant also shows higher live-to-dead load moment and shear force ratios than other configurations, providing insights for optimizing PCI-Girder bridge designs

Thermal Comfort Level Analysis to Support Energy Efficiency Based on Building Information Modeling (BIM) (Case Study of Fajar University Postgraduate Building)

    No full text
Indonesia faces significant challenges regarding energy consumption in the building sector, which continues to rise alongside urbanization and economic growth. Energy use in commercial buildings, particularly office and educational facilities, significantly contributes to the national total energy consumption, with HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems being a major component of building energy consumption. By modeling HVAC systems, natural lighting, and thermal insulation, Building Information Modeling (BIM) can help optimize energy usage and reduce operational costs in buildings. However, despite the proven benefits of BIM in energy analysis and thermal comfort, challenges remain in its implementation. Many construction projects still rely on traditional methods that are less effective in integrating data and analysis. Additionally, a lack of understanding about BIM usage among construction professionals also hinders the achievement of optimal energy efficiency

Integration of Cultural and Ecological Aspects in the Selection of Sustainable Materials for Traditional Balinese Architecture

    No full text
Traditional Balinese architecture has a deep cultural value that is reflected in the use of locally-based materials that are in harmony with the philosophy of Tri Hita Karana and the principles of Asta Kosala Kosali. However, in the era of modernization, there has been a shift in the use of materials from local to industrial materials that are more accessible but have a higher environmental impact. This article examines the integration of cultural and ecological aspects in selecting sustainable materials for traditional Balinese architecture using a multi-criteria approach. The research method used is multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) and life cycle assessment (LCA) to compare sustainability parameters such as carbon footprint, material resilience, and local community involvement in the material production process. The study results show that the use of local materials such as bamboo, coconut wood, and natural stone has a higher sustainability value than industrial materials. This study offers policy-based solutions to improve the use of environmentally friendly materials while maintaining Balinese cultural values. This study is expected to be the basis for designing sustainable architecture policies that consider ecological and cultural aspects in a balanced manner
