    Indian Medicinal Plants with Multiple Pharmacological Efficacies: A Comprehensive Review

    Medicinal herbs have long been utilized by numerous countries, ethnic groups, and cultures across the globe to treat various diseases since ancient times. A variety of phytochemicals, including alkaloids, tannins, carotenoids, proteins, chlorophyll, phytosterols, glycosides, phenols, flavonoids, and diterpenes, as well as minerals, vitamins and other crucial nutrients are abundantly found in medicinal plants. Medicinal plants and herbs are very useful for developing new drugs due to their potent pharmacological properties. Traditional Indian system of medicines consists of a wealth of information on medicinal plants, which contributed to developing therapies for communicable and non-communicable diseases. The present review summarizes the pharmacological characteristics such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiinflammatory, antidiabetic, anticancer, antiulcer, hepatoprotective and cardioprotective effects of some valuable medicinal plants and herbs.     Characteristics and perspectives maternal actions relate to oral hygiene of primary school-age children

    Aim: To analyze the relationship between maternal characteristics and actions to maintain children\u27s oral health with oral hygiene in primary school-aged children Method: This type of research is quantitative analytical with a cross-sectional approach. The population is students from SD Negeri Seberang Mesjid 1 Banjarmasin. The sample was taken using a purposive sampling technique of 5th-grade students and their mothers. Data collection on characteristics and perspectives of maternal actions used a questionnaire instrument. Meanwhile, data on oral hygiene uses the Oral Hygiene Index Simplified (OHI-S) examination sheet. Data analysis used an alternative relationship test, namely Fisher\u27s Exact Test. Results: Most mothers (47.1%) had actions to maintain their children\u27s oral health in the good category. Meanwhile, most children\u27s oral hygiene (49.4%) was in the poor category. The results of the correlation test showed (p-value) that the child\u27s oral hygiene with the mother’s education = 0.000, the mother’s occupation = 0.001, the mother’s exposure to information = 0.000, the family’s income = 0.014, and the mother\u27s age = 0.596. In the correlation test between the mother\u27s actions in maintaining her child\u27s oral health and the children\u27s oral hygiene, it was found that p-value = 0.000. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between maternal characteristics which include: education, occupation, family income, and the mother\u27s actions. Meanwhile, the mother\u27s age is not significantly related to the mother\u27s actions. There is a significant relationship between the mother\u27s actions in maintaining her child\u27s oral health and the oral hygiene of primary school-aged children.     The Relationship between Patient Safety Culture and The Level of Knowledge of Health Personnel with Compliance in Patient Identification Implementation in Hospital

    The basic principle of health care in health institutions that continues to require quality improvement is patient safety. This study aims to analyze the relationship between patient safety culture and the level of knowledge of health workers with compliance with patient identification. This research is quantitative analytical with an observational approach. Data was collected on 70 respondents by observing patient identification compliance, patient safety culture questionnaires, and the level of knowledge of health workers regarding patient identification. Data were analyzed using correlation coefficient analysis. The results of the analysis show that there is a significant relationship between patient safety culture and level of knowledge and compliance with patient identification (p = 0.000 < 0.05). The findings of this study provide insight into the importance of patient safety culture and the level of knowledge of health workers in increasing their compliance in carrying out patient identification, especially in hospitals. This study suggests that management and related health workers should actively participate in implementing patient safety programs, especially those involved in patient identification, to achieve optimal patient safety outcomes.     Niosomal Drug Delivery System used in Tuberculosis

    Niosomes are artificially manufactured vesicles made of Cholesterol and Non-ionic surfactant. Their capacity to encapsulate a broad variety of pharmaceuticals and shield them from deterioration has piqued interest in drug delivery. Niosomes have demonstrated a possible use in the administration of anti-tuberculosis medications. Worldwide, tuberculosis is a serious public health concern. Even with advances in science and technology, tuberculosis remains a persistent problem.Niosomes can encapsulate anti-TB drugs, protecting them from enzymatic degradation and allowing for sustained release. Research in this field is on-going, with scientists working on optimizing niosomal formulations for tuberculosis treatment. It\u27s important to consult current scientific literature for the latest advancements. Some anti-tubercular drugs face challenges in terms of absorption and bioavailability. Niosomal delivery systems can help address these issues. While niosomal drug delivery systems show promise, it\u27s crucial to note that they are still an area of active research and specific formulations and protocols may vary. Patients should always consult with their healthcare providers for the most appropriate and up-to-date treatment options for tuberculosis. Niosomes can encapsulate both hydrophilic and lipophilic drugs, offering advantages such as increased drug stability, prolonged circulation time, controlled release, and targeted delivery.     Exploring the Neuroprotective Effects of Intermittent Fasting: A Comprehensive Review on its Impact on Neurological Diseases

    Background: Intermittent fasting has various benefits for brain health, owing to the physiological alterations occurring in the human body during intervals of fasting. Fasting induces a metabolic condition that improves neuronal bioenergetics, plasticity, and resilience, potentially counteracting a variety of neurological disorders. Objectives: In the current research, we reveal the impact of IF (Intermittent Fasting)on neurological diseases. Methodology: A literature review was conducted to create recent studies on how IF impacts neurological illnesses, including neurodegenerative diseases and Central Nervous System (CNS) disorders. Results: Fasting decreases the production of inflammatory mediators including homocysteine, IL6, and C-reactive protein which could reduce the creation of plaques that lead to atherosclerosis, which is the primary cause of stroke in individuals. IF and ketogenic diets involve significant mechanisms, including enhanced beta-hydroxybutyrate, that have been linked with improved seizure management in certain studies, as well as the induction of other systems that work together to sustain synaptic activity. IF may also improve health and QoL (Quality Of Life)  for those who have relapsing-remitting Multiple Sclerosis. IF could prove to be a beneficial dietary treatment for the prevention and/or deceleration of dementia progression. Conclusion: The creation of a self-empowering, affordable, and effective treatment alternative for a range of neurological issues in a time of rising medical costs and a rise in neurological diseases. In the future, if these studies are given priority, fasting regimens will be advised in addition to medication-based strategies, leading to the development of a single metabolic strategy that can alter the course and symptoms of the most prevalent and impairing neurological disorders that currently exist.     Formulation and Evaluation of Ethosomal Cream containing Resveratrol for the Treatment of Contact Dermatitis

    Objective: The aim of this study was to formulate and evaluate ethosomal cream containing resveratrol for the treatment of contact dermatitis. Method: Resveratrol-loaded ethosome was prepared using cold method. The prepared ethosomes were assessed for entrapment efficiency (%), TEM analysis and sedimentation rate to determine the optimal formulation for loading into cream base. The selected formulation was further investigated for particle size distribution and zeta potential. A cream base was formulated using fusion and trituration method and selected for loading with the ethosomal suspension, meeting specification suitable for topical delivery.  Ethosomal cream formulations were evaluated for drug content, ex -vitro diffusion by using goat skin, skin retention, microbiological study and stability study.  Result and Discussion: The formulation E3 was selected for loading in the optimized cream base (F4) to obtain a topical cream containing ethosomes of resveratrol. The release study reveals that release was controlled for the 24 hours. The drug release in buffer was less than 17% from all the formulations after 24 hours. The drug content of resveratrol in goat skin and cream remained in donor compartment indicates that the drug retention in skin was high in all the formulations, which is desirable for the topical formulations. The best possible release kinetics of the formulation loaded with resveratrol containing ethosomes was found to be zero order. The ‘n’ value from Peppas’s model indicated that the drug release was by Fickian diffusion. Stability study indicates that all the cream formulations were stable after a time period of one month. Conclusion: The present study conclusively supported that ethosomal cream containing resveratrol to be an advantageous topical drug delivery system in treatment of ACD. However detail in- vivo study should be conducted in future to be justify the in- vitro study. Keywords: Resveratrol, Ethosome, Cream, Contact dermatitis

    A Comprehensive Review of Insomnia and Its Regimenal Management in The Unani System of Medicine

    Objective: The objective of this review is to explore the Regimenal Therapy for the Management of Insomnia in contrast to Unani Classical Literature. Therefore, further clinical studies will be done for its scientific validation. Data Source: The review data were gathered from peer-reviewed research articles taken from several online resources, including PubMed, Google, and Google Scholar. Keywords including Insomnia, and prevalence of insomnia were part of the online search strategy. Library of Hakim Syed Ziaul Hasan, Bhopal was also accessed for the Unani Classical literature. Summary: Insomnia is characterized as a persistent difficulty with sleep initiation, duration, consolidation, or quality that occurs despite adequate opportunity and circumstances for sleep, and results in some form of daytime impairment. It is currently a prevalent disease with the incidence varying globally between 10% and 60%. Insomnia is described as Sahar or Bekhaabi in the Unani System of Medicine. Thirty Unani Classical Literature reviewed; 19 were relevant to Insomnia, and 9 were related to Regimenal Therapy. Thirteen therapies explored: Naṭūl, Sa‘ūṭ, Tadhīn, Ḥammām, Dalk, Riyāḍat, Ṭilā’, Ḍimād, Lakhlakha, Shamūm, Qaṭūr, Nashūq, Pāshoya. These therapies are beneficial for managing Insomnia. Conclusion: The implication of Regimenal Therapy appears promising and describes its possible uses for Insomnia. Use of regimenal therapies with fewer drugs, which seems to be effective for Insomnia. Further clinical studies are required to scientifically validate the existing Regimenal Therapy about its efficacy and safety.     Cytotoxicity and antioxidant potential of dichloromethane and ethyl acetate extracts of Morinda morindoïdes leaves

    The incidence of cancer and related mortality are on the rise worldwide, and this requires the search for new plant-based medicines. In this study, the antioxidant potential and cytotoxic activity against HCT-116 cell line were evaluated. Dichloromethane and ethyl acetate extracts of M. morindoïdes were prepared by maceration and evaluated for some biological properties. Cytotoxicity was assessed according to MTS method on the cancer line HCT-116 (colorectal carcinoma) using doxorubicin as reference. Antioxidant potential was carried out by DPPH and ABTS tests. Tri-phytochemistry was carried out from coloring and precipitation tests. On HCT-116 cell line, extracts demonstrated dose-response activity. The lowest IC50 value was obtained with the acetate extract with an IC50= 16.38 ± 0.2 µg/mL. IC50 values for antioxidant activities were evaluated at 39.70 ± 1.7 µg/mL and at 57.65 ± 4.3µg/mL by DPPH and ABTS test respectilly. Finally, phytochemical screening showed presence of polyphenols, flavonoids and quinone. M. morindoides ethyl acetate extract showed the best cytotoxicity and antioxidant activities. Therefore, it should be an interesting source for discovery of new compounds for colorectal cancer treatment. Keywords: cytotoxicity, cancer cells, antioxidant, Morinda morindoides

    Formulation and Evaluation of Betulin Loaded Transdermal Patches

    Objectives: To develop and evaluate Transdermal patches of Betulin along with various polymers for controlled release action. Method: Suitable method such as Solvent Casting Technique of Film Casting Technique are used for preparation of Transdermal patch. Result: The prepared Transdermal patches were transparent, smooth, uniform and flexible. The method adopted for preparation of system was found satisfactory. Conclusion: Various formulations were developed by using hydrophilic and hydrophobic polymers like HPMC E5 and EC respectively in single and combinations by solvent evaporation technique with incorporation of penetration enhancer such as dimethylsulfoxide and dibutyl phthalate as plasticizer.  Formulation F7 containing equal ratio of HPMC E5: EC (5:5) showed maximum percentage drug content 95.44%.  A suitable UV Spectroscopy method for the analysis of Betulin was developed. Betulin showed maximum absorption at wave length 215 nm in isotonic phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) solutions. The pre-formulation studies involving description, solubility, melting point, partition coefficient of the drug were found to be comparable with the standard. The Transdermal patch of Betulin was prepared successfully by solvent evaporation method. Transdermal patch of Betulin for Transdermal drug delivery was evaluated. Calibration curve was obtained; Transdermal film was prepared, overcome limitations regarding bioavailability of drug was done.     Review on Study of Nanoparticles in Brain Targeting for Treatment Of Alzheimer’s

    Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is an irreversible neurodegenerative disorder, in which there is a progressive deterioration of intellectual and social functions, memory loss, personality changes and inability for self-care, and has become the fourth leading cause of death in developed countries.  Pathogenesis of AD, there is a progressive deposition of β-amyloid (Aβ)- peptide in the hippocampal and cerebral cortical regions. This deposition is associated with the presence of neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) and senile plaques. The senile plaques deposited between the neurons consist mainly protein β amyloid. Neurofibrillary tangles deposited inside the neurons fabricated from Tau protein. Diagnosing Alzheimer\u27s requires careful medical evaluation thorough medical history, mental status testing, physical and neurological examination tests (such as blood tests and brain imaging),  two classes of medications approved to treat AD. Cholinesterase inhibitors: Donepezil, Rivastigmine, Galantamine, NMDA receptor antagonists: Memantine. The major goal in designing nanoparticles as a delivery system are to control particle size, surface property and release of pharmacologically active agents in order to achieve the site-specific action of the drug at the therapeutic optimum rate and dose regimen of the agent to the CNS, but also the ability of the agent to access the relevant target site within the CNS. Many strategies have been developed   to deliver the drug into brain by crossing the BBB: chemical delivery systems, magnetic drug targeting or drug carrier systems such as antibodies, liposomes or nanoparticles. Among those, nanoparticles have got a great concentration as the potential targeted drug delivery systems in the brain recently.
