Exploring English Vocabulary Learning Strategies of Students in a Private Senior High School in East Jakarta
This study examines the vocabulary learning strategies of grade 11 students at a private high school in East Jakarta, focusing on four categories: cognitive, metacognitive, memory and activation strategies. Using a quantitative descriptive method, data was collected from 169 students attending English classes. The data was collected using a questionnaire with a Likert scale and open-ended questions. The questionnaire consisted of 4 vocabulary learning strategies items: Cognitive Strategy, Metacognitive Strategy, Memory Strategy, and Activation Strategy. Each item consisted of 10 questions. The findings showed a diversity in strategy use, with digital tools and contextual inference being the most frequently used cognitive strategies. Metacognitive strategies such as goal setting and self-assessment were not consistently applied, while memory strategies such as repetition and auditory reinforcement proved effective for vocabulary retention. Activation strategies, including using new words in online conversations and interactions, highlighted the integration of technology in learning. This research emphasizes the importance of diverse and targeted teaching strategies to improve students' vocabulary acquisition and overall English proficiency
Creating Animated Short Stories with Digital Apps: Project-Based Learning in EFL Classroom
This study aims to investigate the benefits of implementing project-based learning (PBL) to create short stories using digital apps at the university level. Thirty-nine students from the English Education Department at a university in West Java were purposively selected as participants because they were enrolled in a Digital Storytelling course, making them directly relevant to the study’s objectives. They used a digital application to facilitate a project that required them to visualize their narratives as animated videos. This study employed a qualitative case study approach, with data collected through student reflections, observations, and semi-structured interviews. The data were analyzed thematically, following coding, categorization, and interpretation processes to identify recurring themes and patterns in students’ experiences. The findings indicate that students improved their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while enhancing their communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and technical abilities. Moreover, PBL fostered creativity, critical thinking, and collaborative engagement, creating a positive and supportive learning environment. These results suggest that integrating PBL with digital storytelling can significantly strengthen language proficiency and 21st-century skills, highlighting the need for institutional support to overcome technical challenges

Development of a Web-Based Arabic Competency Test for Indonesian Speakers as a Reference for Measuring Arabic Proficiency Levels of Undergraduate and Graduate Students in Arabic Language Education at Universitas Negeri Jakarta
This study aims to establish Arabic language proficiency standards through a TOAFL-based competency evaluation model that is recognised both nationally and internationally. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach following the Gall and Borg model. Data analysis ensured validity and reliability through prolonged engagement, persistent observation, and triangulation. The prototype developed in this study measures three key aspects of Arabic proficiency: listening comprehension, structure and written expression, and reading comprehension. Each aspect consists of several sections that assess different linguistic skills through 150 multiple-choice questions. The study also produced a question bank containing structured Arabic test materials designed for standardised assessment. Test scores are processed using a tabulation system that converts correct and incorrect responses into numerical values to generate total scores. The outcome of this research is a prototype of a standardised web-based Arabic language competency test model for Indonesian speakers, which can be used as a valid instrument for assessing Arabic language proficiency at the undergraduate and master’s levels
Meaning Shift in Arabic Social Media: A Cultural-Semantic Study
The phenomenon of social media has introduced new dynamics in the development of the Arabic language, particularly in relation to shifts in vocabulary meanings influenced by cross-cultural interaction, digital technology, and online communication practices. This study aimed to examine meaning shifts in Arabic as used on social media through a cultural-semantic approach. The research focused on identifying vocabulary items that underwent semantic change, whether through narrowing, broadening, or connotative shifts, and on analyzing the cultural factors underlying these changes. The study employed a qualitative method using a cultural-semantic framework, with data drawn from utterances, posts, and conversations circulating on popular platforms such as Twitter (X), Instagram, and TikTok. The findings indicate that semantic shifts in Arabic social media emerge through complex interactions among linguistic, social, and cultural dimensions. Based on Cruse’s theory of semantics, most meaning changes occur at the level of sense relations, primarily through mechanisms such as broadening, narrowing, and metaphorical extension. For instance, the word متابع (mutābi‘), which lexically means “follower,” has undergone narrowing to specifically denote a “social media follower” in the digital context. From Duranti’s perspective of cultural semantics, these shifts are not merely linguistic phenomena but also reflect processes of identity formation and value negotiation within Arab digital communication culture. Each term that experienced semantic change embodies the dynamics of digital life, reflecting values such as ijtima‘iyyah (social connectedness), shuhrah (popularity), and ta‘bīr dhāti (self-expression)
Phonetic Cohesion in the Rhyme Structure of the Qur'an: A Phonological Analysis of Sound Patterns in Surah Al-Inshiqaq
The purpose of this study is to examine phonetic cohesion in the rhymes of Surah Al-Inshiqaq from a phonological perspective to understand how sound patterns in rhymes contribute to text cohesion, aesthetic appeal, and emphasis of the message in the Holy Qur'an. Using generative phonology as the theoretical framework, this cognitive-linguistic analysis employs a descriptive-qualitative method to investigate both segmental features (consonants and final vowels) and suprasegmental features (intonation and rhythm). The findings reveal strong internal cohesion through frequent repetition of final phonemes such as /a/ and /qa/, which creates a structured rhyme scheme that enhances musicality and facilitates memorization. This phonetic effect enriches the literary beauty as well as the rhetorical and spiritual impact of the text, particularly reinforcing its eschatological themes. The study offers practical insights for phonological analysis of religious texts, Qur'ānic recitation, and linguistic interpretation pedagogy. Notably, this approach integrates modern linguistic theories into the interdisciplinary discourse on Qur'ānic stylistics, bridging linguistics and Islamic studies
TRANSFORMASI IDENTITAS SEKSUAL PASCA- ISTEREKTOMI PERSPEKTIF AL-QUR'AN
Hysterectomy is a surgical procedure that has a significant impact on a woman's sexual identity, not only physically, but also psychologically and spiritually. The loss of the uterus is often interpreted as a partial loss of female identity, which then triggers a crisis of self-image, feelings of loss, anxiety, and even deep depression. This study aims to explore the transformation of women's sexual identity post-hysterectomy through in-depth analysis based on scientific literature and from the perspective of Qur'anic teachings. Problem solving is done through qualitative methods based on the study of relevant and current literature. The results show that accepting bodily changes as part of fate and divine will is a key factor in the healing and recovery. Ongoing spiritual support and social support from the immediate environment significantly influenced women's identity and emotional balance recovery. Therefore, a holistic and integrative approach that includes medical, psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions is needed in post-hysterectomy assistance. This approach can help women rediscover the meaning of life and the integrity of their identity within the framework of Islamic values.
Method of Analysis of Mutasyabih Lafdzi in the Qur'an: A Study of Tafsir as-Sha'rawi
This article aims to identify and explore the analytical methods of asy-Sya’rawi in understanding the textual variations of mutasyabih lafdzi verses and their implications for Qur’anic exegesis studies. This study employs a qualitative method using thematic interpretation (maudhu’i) and content analysis approaches. The thematic approach is applied to holistically examine the phenomenon of mutasyabih lafdzi through collecting and categorizing relevant Qur'anic verses. At the same time, content analysis is used to delve deeper into Asy-Sya’rawi's interpretive methods in explaining these textual variations. The findings reveal that Asy-Sya’rawi adopts a comprehensive approach, encompassing linguistic, historical, comparative analysis, and moral and ethical insights. For instance, his study of surat al-Baqarah/2:126 and surat Ibrahim/14:35 demonstrates how the textual differences between the terms baladan and al-balad reflect the transition of a region from a barren state to a secure and thriving city. Furthermore, asy-Sya’rawi connects these verses to moral lessons emphasizing the importance of physical, social, and spiritual security in the sacred region of Haram. This article also serves as a rebuttal to the claims of Orientalists like Richard Bell and William Muir, who perceive textual variations as indications of inconsistency in the Qur’an.
Utilization of AI In Reorienting Digital Da’wah Based On Religious Moderation to Address Religious Consumerism Among Generation AI: A Qur’anic Perspective
This study explores the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into digitally moderated Islamic da’wah to prevent consumerism among Generation AI from a Qur’anic perspective. Using a qualitative approach and literature review, it examines the potential of AI to expand the reach and effectiveness of Islamic messages through features such as interactive chatbots, content personalization, recommendation algorithms, big data analysis, and virtual assistants. The findings indicate that AI can support a more adaptive, moderate, and secure form of da'wah, while also serving as a tool for training preachers and preventing the spread of extremist content. Additionally, AI plays a crucial role in detecting and countering extremist narratives and enhancing the effectiveness of message delivery by da'wah practitioners. From a Qur’anic perspective, AI can align with the principles of moderation emphasized in the Qur'an. Wasatiyyah (moderation) is central in Surah Al-Baqarah [2:143]. The Qur'an also highlights the importance of avoiding excess and materialism, such as in Surah At-Takathur [102:1], which resonates with the study’s aim to use AI to address the excessiveness of religious consumerism in the digital age. With AI, digital da'wah can become more responsive and uphold the values of moderation, ensuring that Islamic teachings remain relevant, accessible, and grounded in balance and restraint. Theoretically, this study enriches the literature on AI integration in Islamic da'wah, while deepening the understanding of moderation (wasatiyyah) in modern technology. Practically, it offers strategic guidelines for developing relevant and transformative AI-based digital da'wah content that aligns with Islamic values
