    Get PDF
Educators are role models for their students. In the teaching and learning process, educators not only have the responsibility to transfer knowledge to their students, but also must uphold ethics and morality in educating. Imam Al Ghazali (450 H/1058 AD - 505 H/1111 AD), a great scholar who lived centuries ago, has formulated various ethical principles for educators so that the knowledge taught remains blessed and noble. His works are widespread and have become the primary reference in understanding ethical values for educators. This qualitative research used a library research design to review various journals and classical books by Imam Al Ghazali. The researcher analyzed relevant literature without having to conduct field research. According to Imam Al Ghazali, this research aims to describe the concept of the code of ethics for educators. The results revealed several main principles that must be possessed by an educator, such as having compassion for students, having praiseworthy traits, being a good example, and being firm in educating

Conservative and Progressive Curriculum:: a Comparative Analysis of Educational Objectives and Methodologies in the Context of Islamic Education in Indonesia

    Get PDF
This study examines the contrasts and complementarities between conservative and progressive curricula within Islamic education in Indonesia, focusing particularly on educational objectives and teaching methodologies. The findings from a qualitative approach, using a systematic review of peer-reviewed studies published between 2015 and 2025, reveal that conservative curricula emphasise the preservation of Islamic heritage, moral stability, and established knowledge, typically implemented through teacher-centred instruction and memorisation. In contrast, progressive curricula prioritise learner-centred approaches that foster critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving through contextual and participatory methods. The analysis concludes that both paradigms, though distinct, are mutually reinforcing, and their integration is essential for effective curriculum reform. In Indonesia, where Islamic education is shaped by Muhammadiyah's progressive orientation and Nahdlatul Ulama's conservative tradition, a hybrid model offers a means to reconcile tradition with modernity. Conservative elements provide ethical grounding and continuity, whereas progressive elements promote innovation, autonomy, and global relevance. Integration strategies include aligning conservative objectives with progressive pedagogies, combining authoritative instruction with participatory practices, incorporating twenty-first-century skills into religious learning, and adapting the Curriculum to local wisdom and moderate Islamic principles. Such synthesis preserves Islamic and national identity while preparing learners for the Society 5.0 era and countering extremism through inclusive, moderate education

Scientific Exegesis of QS. An-Nahl 68–69 on bees: Integrating Qur’anic Interpretation and Modern Scientific Findings

    Get PDF
This study conducts a scientific exegesis (Tafsir ‘ilmi) of Qur’an 16:68-69, which describes divine inspiration bestowed upon honeybees and the production of a healing drink from their abdomens. Using a descriptive-analytical qualitative approach and the tahlil method, classical and modern interpretation sources were integrated with contemporary findings in apidology and apitherapy. Major exegetes (Ibn Kathir, al-Tabari, al-Qurtubi, Saayid Qutb, Tantawi Jauhri, et al.) Unanimously interpreted “awha” as divinely instilled instinct accurately anticipating modern discoveries of hexagonal hive geometry, waggle dance communication, and age based polytheism. Scientific evidence confirms that bee products (honey, royal jelly, propolis, pollen, venom, beeswax) contain bioactive compounds with proven antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and wound-healing properties for validating the Qur’anic claim of “healing for people” (Syifaul linnas). The findings illustrate profound harmony between seventh-century revelation and twenty-first-century biology and medicine, affirming the Qur’an’s role as both theological guidance and empirically verifiable natural observation while underscoring bee’s ecological and therapeutic significance

Understanding The Rise of Childfree Marriage: Avoiding Toxic Family, Being Happy and Well Without Children Despite Contradiction With Maqashid al-Sharia

    Get PDF
This research aims to understand the phenomenon of increasing childfree marriage as a contemporary social construction and analyze it from the perspective of maqashid al-sharia, especially related to the principle of progeny preservation in Islam. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a field research method. Primary data was obtained through in-depth interviews with two married couples (four informants), each of whom committed to a child-free marriage. The data were analyzed thematically with an eminic and ethical approach, as well as interpretive-descriptive. Research has found that couples' decisions to marry without having children are based on a desire to achieve happiness and well-being throughout their life with their partner, as well as avoiding the creation of a toxic family. These internal factors are reinforced by external factors such as education, economy, and career. Research has also found that wives play a key role in these decisions regarding reproductive rights. From the perspective of Islamic law, although there is no explicit text prohibiting childfree marriage, maqashid al-sharia still emphasizes the importance of the sustainability of offspring. The childfree decision is a conscious choice of a married couple to pursue happiness and well-being without the presence of children, on the grounds of avoiding the potential for toxic families. In the Islamic view, childfree marriage falls within the territory of ijtihadiyyah which requires a legal approach based on maqashid al-sharia and 'illat analysis. Although this phenomenon is socially acceptable, normatively Islam still prioritizes the importance of offspring as part of the purpose of sharia

Islamic Judicial Activism in Determining Child Maintenance: Ex Officio Authority and Peaceful Settlement in Indonesian Religious Courts

    Get PDF
This article examines the construction of Islamic law in determining child support after divorce through two mechanisms in Indonesia’s Religious Courts: amicable settlement (ṣulḥ) and judges’ ex officio authority. Although both have a clear legal basis, their practice continues to face challenges: amicable settlements are often compromise-based without objective evaluation of children’s needs, while ex officio rulings tend to be more responsive but lack uniformity due to the absence of standardized guidelines. Employing a juridical-empirical approach with content analysis of four representative decisions from the Bintuhan and Manna Religious Courts (2023–2024), this study identifies the legal considerations applied, assesses the adequacy of child support amounts, and compares the effectiveness of both mechanisms. The findings reveal that amicable settlements frequently result in insufficient child support, whereas ex officio rulings better protect children’s interests yet remain inconsistent. By integrating the principle of maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah, particularly ḥifẓ al-nasl (protection of lineage), this research introduces the concept of Islamic judicial activism, which positions judges as proactive actors in ensuring the child’s best interests. Theoretically, the study enriches global Islamic legal discourse by proposing a maqāṣid-oriented adjudication model that bridges normative texts, socio-economic realities, and substantive justice. Practically, it recommends that the Supreme Court establish national guidelines for child support determination based on cost-of-living standards, enhance judges’ capacity, and strengthen monitoring mechanisms for enforcement. Thus, this study not only contributes to comparative family law scholarship but also offers an innovative normative model for child protection in Muslim jurisdictions

    Get PDF
This research aims to explore and analyze the concept of mediation in the perspective of Islamic law and how it is applied in Indonesian legislation. The main focus is to understand the similarities and differences between the principles of mediation in Islamic law and the mediation regulations applicable in Indonesia, as well as the implications for dispute resolution. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach. Data was collected through a literature study that included Islamic law literature, Indonesian legislation, and other relevant documents. The analysis was conducted by comparing the principles of mediation in Islamic law with the provisions contained in Law No. 30 of 1999 on Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution and the regulations of the Supreme Court of Indonesia related to mediation. The results show that mediation in the perspective of Islamic law emphasizes the principles of justice, equality, and cooperation that are in line with sharia values. On the other hand, Indonesian legislation regulates mediation as an effective and efficient alternative to dispute resolution. Although there are some differences in the procedures and implementation, in general these two legal systems have the same goal, which is to achieve fair and peaceful dispute resolution. This research also found that the integration of the concept of mediation in Islamic law with mediation regulations in Indonesia can enrich and improve the effectiveness of dispute resolution in Indonesia

This study investigates the influence of school principals' managerial skills and teachers' work motivation on the quality of Junior High Schools in Kedungwuni District, Pekalongan Regency. The research used a quantitative approach with a descriptive design involving 110 teachers from various schools in the district. Data was collected using questionnaires with a Likert scale and performed using multiple regression analysis. The findings indicate that school principals' managerial skills and teachers' work motivation significantly influence school quality. The results showed that school principals' managerial skills contributed 61.7% to improving school quality, while teachers' work motivation contributed 72.0%. Moreover, both variables accounted for 63.8% of the variation in school quality, indicating that they work together to enhance educational outcomes. The study further identified that the most significant dimension of managerial skills was human relations, followed by conceptual and technical skills. At the same time, intrinsic motivation played a more prominent role in motivating teachers than extrinsic motivation. Based on these findings, it is recommended that school principals enhance their managerial skills, especially in technical aspects, and that teachers actively improve their motivation. The local education authority should also support the development of school principals' leadership capabilities and create programs that foster teachers' professional growth. This study contributes to understanding how effective leadership and motivated teachers can significantly improve school quality, offering valuable insights for educational policymakers and practitioners
