Estructuras espaciales desmontables y desplegables
Get PDFThis paper corresponds to the research theme developed in my Doctoral thesis. It starts with the Architect Emilio Pérez Piñero's work: information is prepared which allows his work to be transmitted and it generalizes the behaviour study related to unfoldable structures.
This is a type of structure which requires definition as well as mobility and structural behavior.
The unfoldable structures studied are characterized by using bars placed in the shape of an "X" in the structure's thickness in both flat and curved surfaces. In both cases, mobility in the mechanism stage is analyzed using Piñero's Solutions and complementary solutions mentioned. The geometric relations which must be fufilled so that the bar movement is possible and which determine its constructive definition are studied.
Several types of structures which are possible starting from flat deployable mechanisms are mentioned and this procedure can be extrapolated for curved surfaces.Este artículo corresponde al tema de investigación desarrollado en mi tesis doctoral. El punto de partida es la obra del arquitecto Emilio Pérez Piñero: se elabora la documentación que hace transmisible su trabajo y se generaliza el estudio del comportamiento en la parcela de las estructuras desplegables. Este es un tipo de estructuras en las que hay que resolver tanto su definición como su movilidad y comportamiento estructural.
Las estructuras desplegables investigadas se caracterizan por el empleo de barras dispuestas en "x" en el espesor de la estructura, con generación de superficies tanto planas como curvas. En ambos casos se analiza la movilidad en fase de mecanismo, tanto a las soluciones de Piñero como a las complementarias que se exponen. Se estudian las relaciones geométricas que deben de cumplirse para que sea posible el movimiento de las barras, y que determinan su definición constructiva.

La confusa complejidad estructural del Palau Güell
Get PDFThe rational organization of the façades of the Palau Güell does not reveal —according to the authors of this paper— the building's spatial wealth nor the complexity of its structure. A structure which has a clear general conception in the upper floors, becomes more complicated in the lower ones, where one can see that Gaudí had to reinforce specific points as he went along when he realized their inadequacy for future work. These "reformulations" the authors believe, are not brilliant structural solutions and, as a whole, the structure of the building must be described as confusing. They, therefore, ask themselves whether this structure is the skeleton of an architectural masterpiece and propose that the answer serve as a starting point for a revision of the work of Gaudí.La racional organización de las fachadas del Palau Güell no acusan —según los autores de este trabajo— la riqueza espacial del edificio ni la complejidad de su estructura. Una estructura que tiene una concepción general clara en las plantas superiores pero que se complica en las inferiores, en las que se aprecia que Gaudí hubo de reforzar sobre la marcha determinados puntos al darse cuenta de su inadecuación en función de la obra realizada después. Estos "retornos", opinan los autores, no pueden ofrecer soluciones estructurales brillantes y, en conjunto, la estructura del edificio cabe calificarla de confusa. Por ello se preguntan si esta estructura puede ser el esqueleto de una obra maestra de la arquitectura y proponen que la respuesta sirva como punto de partida para una revisión de la obra de Gaudí

Get PDFWe can distinguish rather precisely between the aspects of structural comportment dues to it's form, to it's proportions, from those dues to it's size. By the analysis of structures in their size's limits (supporting only their own's weight), and with the use of the slenderness, scope of the material, scope of the structure, and structure quantity of the "unit structure" concepts, we can delimit those aspects. Thus, in structures far from the size's limit that can be adscribed to it's class, the relations of the form are dominants in their comportement. In structures where the size is a high fraction of that limit, these concepts allow to evaluate with quickness and elegance the fractions of strehgth employed in supporting the structure's own weight, or any additional load.En las estructuras pueden distinguirse con bastante precisión los aspectos de su comportamiento que dependen solo de la forma, de su proporción, de aquellos que dependen de su tamaño. Mediante el análisis de estructuras en el límite de resistencia a su propio peso, y a través de los conceptos de esbeltez, alcance del material, alcance de la estructura y de cantidad de estructura de la "estructura unidad" pueden delimitarse con mucha precisión dichos aspectos. De este modo en estructuras muy lejos del límite de tamaño correspondiente a su tipo, las relaciones de proporción son dominantes en su comportamiento. En estructuras con tamaño importante respecto del límite, los conceptos anteriores proporcionan recursos para evaluar con sencillez y elegancia las proporciones de la resistencia del material que se emplean en soportar el propio peso, o las cargas adicionales a éste

Get PDFThe materials and construction systems, even the conception of the general structure, were for Gaudí no more than mediums at the service of the formal and spatial expression of his architectural imagination. Sometimes, the use of certain materials was indiscriminate or without sufficient guarantees. The Casa Milá is a good example. The use of laminated iron in the Pedrera, which allowed Gaudí to conceive a story independent of the façades —wall-screens of stone which seem to defy the law of gravity—, have been, at the same time, the main cause of the deterioration of these façades. In the case of the structure, the conceptual solution based on the use of iron has responded well to the static needs. This has not occured with the solutions —no less ingeneous but too improvlsed and risky— foreseen, also based on iron, to hold up the façade. Here, the material, subjected to the effects of humidity —favored by the form given to the stone—, has not resisted the passage of time very well.Los materiales y los sistemas constructivos, incluso la concepción de la estructura general, no eran para Gaudí más que medios al servicio de la expresividad formal y espacial de su imaginativa arquitectura. A veces, la utilización de algunos materiales se hizo de forma indiscriminada o sin suficientes garantías. La Casa Milá es un buen ejemplo. La utilización del hierro laminado en la Pedrera, que permitió a Gaudí concebir una planta libre independiente de las fachadas —muros-cortina de piedra que parecen desafiar la ley de la gravedad—, ha sido, al mismo tiempo, la causa principal del deterioro de estas fachadas. En el caso de la estructura, la solución conceptual basada en el uso del hierro ha respondido bien a las solicitudes estáticas. No ha ocurrido así con las soluciones —no menos ingeniosas pero excesivamente improvisadas y arriesgadas— previstas, también en base al hierro, para la sustentación de la fachada. Aquí, el material sometido a la acción de la humedad —favorecida pot la forma dada a la piedra—, no ha resistido bien el paso del tiempo

En él se resumen algunas innovaciones en el campo de las estructuras de hormigón en edificación, relacionadas con los materiales empleados (adiciones, fibras, hormigones de alta resistencia,...), con las tipologías estructurales (losas macizas armadas o postensadas, estructuras de hormigón con encofrado de poliestireno expandido,...) y con las recomendaciones para la mejora de la durabilidad de las estructuras

Get PDFEnvironmental impact studies are used as a tool in project development to attain an adequate integration of the proposed activities in their environments so that adverse effects that are likely to affect the environmental quality can be avoided or reduced. The Vallfornés reservoir project case, whose main objective is storing water for irrigation, has al so the peculiarity of being located in the Montseny Natural Park (Catalonia, Spain) thus needing not only a careful treatment of the projected works, but also the resolution of the unavoidable conflicts that can arise related to the Natural Park regulations. This paper focuses on the main aspects of the environmental Impact study of this reservoir project: Natural Park regulations that could affect the project, environmental characterization of the area, Identification, characterization and assessment of environmental impacts, and recommendations for reducing or avoiding impacts.Los estudios de impacto ambiental surgen de la necesidad de proyectar las actividades de la forma más adecuada posible, que facilite su integración en el medio natural en que han de inscribirse para que su calidad no se vea afectada. El caso del embalse de Vallfornés, cuya finalidad principal es el abastecimiento de agua para regadío, presenta además la peculiaridad de afectar a terrenos Incluidos dentro del Parque Natural de Montseny, lo que obliga no sólo a un tratamiento cuidadoso de la obra, sino también a la resolución de conflictos inevitables con la normativa existente. En el presente artículo se pasa revista a los principales aspectos del estudio de impacto ambiental de dicho embalse: análisis de las implicaciones derivadas de su ubicación en terrenos del Parque Natural del Montseny, caracterización del medio afectado, identificación de las acciones productoras de impacto, caracterización y valoración de los mismos y recomendaciones respecto a la corrección de los impactos potenciales
