EXPLORING THE IMPACT OF MIGRATION, ENVIRONMENT AND CLIMATE CHANGE ON NORTH MACEDONIA: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

    Get PDF
The question of how migration, environment and climate change interact has been a topic of increasing interest in North Macedonia. Estimates of the numbers of people who may be displaced by climate change-related phenomena by 2050 range from 50 million to 1 billion people, with the most cited number, 200 million, being based on projections by Norman Myers in 1995 and 2000 [1]. However, Myers himself has admitted to uncertainty in his estimate and that necessary extrapolations were made due to a lack of available data [1]. Additionally, the high-end estimate, of 1 billion people displaced by 2050, comes from a Christian Aid report [1]. It is acknowledged that climate change will not alone cause conflict, but it is also accepted that it has the potential to exacerbate or catalyze conflict in conjunction with other factors [1]. Examining the impact of migration, environment, and climate change on North Macedonia: a systematic review, the pathway is non-linear, and, in some cases, climate-induced conflict may in turn cause migration [1]. Current researchindicates that climate migration will not necessarily increase the risk of conflict, however, linking climate migration to conflict is difficult since the relative importance of climate migration, among the many other drivers, must be determined [1]. All factors involved in the system, which are linking climate, migration and conflict are location dependent, and the relationship between climate change, migration and conflict depends on social, demographic, economic and political drivers [1]. Future research should focus on the localinterplay of multiple drivers that influence whether the climate will increase the risk of conflict, and Neo Malthusian theory suggesting that as populations continue to increase, competition for resources will also increase, and could lead to conflict as the inequalities increase between those in control of resources and those who do not have access [1]. Even though the climate-migration-conflict pathway is viewed as linear and even deterministic in the media, scholars are increasingly cautious when discussing the pathway, and the potential impacts of climate variability and change on migration and conflict will remain an important area of research and policy planning.&nbsp

The paper is evaluating the Macedonian phraseological equivalents of Slovenian phrasemes in the Dictionary of Slovenian Phrasemes by Janez Keber (2011, 2015). Possible sources for the excerption of Macedonian phraseological material are presented, the cross-linguistic phraseological equivalence of the given units at the semantic, constituent and representational levels is checked, as well as the observed shortcomings or errors in citing Macedonian equivalents. In case of detected errors, suggestions are also given for a more appropriate display or corrections of Macedonian phraseological equivalents.

Starting from the theoretical and typological models of intertextuality, elaborated by Renate Lachmann, Gerard Genette, Dubravka Oraic-Tolic, Mark Currie, this study aims to interpret the intertextual layers in Andrei Bitov\u27s novel Pushkin House. The interpretive focus is placed on three levels: on the intertextual object in the novel (the specific prototexts and the literary tradition as a global prototext); on the intertextual relations and procedures in the novel; as well as on the mnemonic functions and implications of the intertextual dialogues in the novel.

REGIONAL INTEGRATION INITIATIVES IN THE WESTERN BALKAN: THE BERLIN PROCESS VERSUS THE OPEN BALKAN INITIATIVE

Soon after the dissolution of the Former (SFR) Yugoslavia and the start of the transition to moderndemocracies and market economies, the attempts for regional economic cooperation among the WesternBalkan countries (a region composed of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, NorthMacedonia and Serbia, together called WB6) have not lacked. On the contrary, numerous initiativeshave been launched, of which the early ones started in the 1990s, but the wars in the region halted themtemporarily. Afterwards the initiatives reemerged, including the Central European Free TradeAgreement (CEFTA 2006), coupled with — or maybe as temporary substitution for — the EUintegration process of the WB6. Most prominent of the current regional integration initiatives are theBerlin Process and the Open Balkan. However, albeit the progress achieved, the WB region is still nota “single market” in the full meaning of all initiatives undertaken until now. There are some simple butforceful reasons for that. Having this in mind, the aim of this paper is to offer a short presentation ofthe main activities under the Berlin Process and the Open Balkan initiatives, as well as to detect theirsimilarities and differences. Hence, the first part of the paper presents the basic features of the BerlinProcess and the Open Balkan, while the second one outlines the similarities and differences. In the usualmanner, the paper ends with some recommendations

Law has an important function in realizing women\u27s rights and eliminating inequality betweеn men andwomen. Making women more visible in society and recognizing and protecting their rights must beguaranteed by the rules of law. The situation of women in law is related to all branches of law, not asingle branch. The first examples of women\u27s rights struggles in history started and continued withradical legal system changes. Law emerged to regulate all kinds of interactions between people in orderto ensure social order. Among all known ancient laws, it is accepted that Roman law is based on privatelaw. However, with the development and change of the Roman society, the increase in its needs andexperiences, and the development of the understanding of the social state, the rules that would coverpersonal rights and freedoms in Roman law naturally remained quite limited compared to today\u27s legalrules. In this study, in order to understand the legal status of women in Roman Law, we will take a lookat the legal regulations regarding rights and capacity to act, try to clarify the concepts of rights andcapacity to act, and mention whether there are legal restrictions on these two types of capacity andwhether these restrictions change the legal capacity of women

The South is a profound odeoporic, symbolic, archetypal, and sentimental theme in the verses of Maximilian Voloshin and Nikolai Gumilev – two classical and eccentric figures in the literary and historical period of the Silver Age of Russian poetry. This article illuminates the mysticism of the South and delves into understanding the symbols of the Sun and the Sea, while exploring the fascination with African culture and nature in the verses of Gumilev and the enchantment with the historical and natural treasures of the Mediterranean in the topographical poetry of Voloshin. The article explores the essential roles of wanderlust, Otherness, the boundaries between physical and imaginary geography, romantic escapism, and the phenomenological understanding of the chronotopic determinant of the South as a metaphysical metonymy of Baudelaire’s Unknown. Consequently, this thematic interpretation sheds light on the strong currents of the geographical imagination in the poetry of Voloshin and Gumilev, which epitomize the idea of the South as a miraculous myth.

This article juxtaposes the Russian structure ЧТО ЖЕ + NP – Nom + VP with the Slovene structure KAJ PA + (NP – Nom) + VP with the help of the theoretic principles of Construction Grammar. Firstly, the article tries to prove that both of the above-mentioned constructions have all of the properties which are requested by the Construction Grammar for defining a multi-word expression as the concept construction; and secondly, it tries to expose the dependency of meanings and functions of particles to the other elements in the construction and to the whole construction.Prispevek sopostavlja rusko členkovno zgradbo ЧТО ЖЕ + NP – Nom + VP in slovensko členkovno zgradbo KAJ PA + (NP – Nom) + VP in se pri tem opira na teoretična vodila konstrukcijske slovnice.

World history is inscribed with wars and revolutions that history and politics perceive through facts. Psychiatry deals with the traumatic consequences to people, which often find a place in literature. Numerous works have been written by direct participants, witnesses of those events, as well as their descendants. Macedonian history abounds with historical events that have left deep-rooted traumas to the Macedonian people. During the 19th century, when states and nations were formed, numerous rebellions and uprisings organized by the Macedonian people who fought for freedom from five centuries of slavery and for the right to self-determination. However, the great powers had a territorial interest in Macedonia, which is why they did not take into account the democratic right of the Macedonian people, and they turned a deaf ear to their appeals for help. Therefore, in 1903 in Thessaloniki, a group of young revolutionaries - the Thessaloniki Assassins carried out an attack through which they wanted to draw attention to the Macedonian issue. Gjorgji Abadjiev writes about the psychological consequences to one of the survivors of this historical act in the novel Pustina. The fate of the Macedonian people had been decided in a most undemocratic manner in 1913, with the Bucharest Agreement, which had divided the territory of Macedonia, and with it, the Macedonian people had been disintegrated. Tashko Georgievski writes about this political andhistorical event, which left a trauma on the Macedonian people, individually and collectively, and which is reflected to this day, in his nine novels titled Black Seed.
