Human Capital Components and Economic Development: The Relationship between Education and Health Expenditures and GDP in Selected Countries of Southeast Europe
No full textThe modern theory of economic growth and development posits that human capital is one of the main factor for economic growth as it enhances the productivity of two other classical growth factors: physical capital and labour. Also, investments in human capital accumulation are considered as important precondition for achieving higher levels of economic development. In this context, one line of emprical research is to assess the importance of the two components of human capital – education and health – in the process of economic development. In this paper, we investigate the impact of education and health on the level of economic development (measured as GDP per capita) in a sample of five Southeast European countries (Albania, Croatia, North Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia, over the period 2000-2021.The empirical analysis relies on a cross-sectional regression using two panels (one for education - based human capital, and the other for health-based capital. Other variables in the models include lagged GDP per capita, gross fixed capital formation per capita and corruption perception index as a proxy for insitutional quality. The results from the two panel regressions indicate that spending on education and health has significant positive effects on GDP per capita. Such reserach results lend support to the policy prescription that public investments in education and health aimed at upgrading the quality of human capital may significantly contribute to the process of economic development

Get PDFThis paper is focused on two main theoretical topics. First, it summarizes and critically analyzes the dominant contemporary interpretations of what is called “logical hylomorphism This expression, coined by John MacFarlane, designates the conception according to which the ontological distinction of form and matter, rooted in Aristotle’s philosophical writings, can be applied to arguments and inferences in order to show that the specifically logical element that they contain is related to their formal, and not to their material aspect. Second, in the light of the contemporary discussions on logical hylomprphism and its theoretical consequences, the author analyzes some of the dominant conceptions of informal logic as opposed to formal logic. The point of this analysis is to corroborate he main thesis of the paper: the idea that in order to avoid the current conceptual controversies concerning the status and the main preoccupations of logic as a discipline, it is necessary to reconceptualize some of its fundamental notions and theoretical distinctions, in the light of an enlarged conception of rationality, which includes not only the anaytical, but also the dialectical aspects of reasoning and argumentation.Во овој труд ce третираат деа главни теориски проблема. Најнапред, во него ce npaвu ocвpm и критичка анализа на доминантните сфаќања во поглед на т.н. логички хиломорфизам. Под овој поим ce подразбира гледиштето дека онтолошкото разликување на формата и на материјата, кое потекнува уште од Аристотеловите филозофски списи, може легитимно да ce примени и врз таков вид ентитети какви што ce логичките заклучоци, со цел да ce покаже дека специфично логичкиот елемент што mue го содржат ce состои во нивниот формален, a не 60 нивниот материјален аспект. Понатаму, во светлината на современата дискусија околу логичкиот хиломорфизам и неговите теориски консеквенции, ce анализира концептот на т.н. неформална логика, образуванo против став на формалната логика. NAVIGATING FAITH IN A SECULAR STATE: ISLAMIC LAW AND MUSLIM PRACTICES IN MACEDONIA
No full textThis study explores the multifaceted implementation of Islamic law among the Muslimcommunity in North Macedonia, a secular country. It examines how Muslims navigate and practicevarious aspects of Sharia in their daily lives, despite the secular framework of the state. Theresearch focuses on key religious practices such as religious marriage (Nikah), the giving of obligatorycharity (Zakat), and the observance of fasting during Ramadan. It investigates the challengesand adaptations faced by the Muslim community in maintaining their religious obligations whilecomplying with secular laws. This study provides insights into the dynamic interaction betweenIslamic law and secularism, highlighting the resilience and creativity of Muslims in preserving theirreligious identity. The findings contribute to a broader understanding of religious coexistence andthe practical realities of implementing religious laws in a secular context

РУССКИЙ МАТ И ЕГО ОТРАЖЕНИЕ В АНЕКДОТАХ
Get PDFThe article examines various aspects of the non-trivial existence of the so- called Russian swearing in everyday communication, such as issues of the origin and original semantics of the most ancient words in the Slavic language, as well as the issue of their modern understanding, evaluation and role in the national language. The author believes that in the distant past all the ancient vocabulary, now considered obscene, was common Slavic, sacred and in no way abusive or low. This equally applies to the actual “obscene” expression and to the vocabulary denoting the generative organs of a person. The issue of the functioning of swear words in modern Russian jokes is also considered.Статья рассматривает различные аспекты нетривиального бытия так называемого русского мата в бытовом общении: проблемы происхождения и исконной семантики древнейших слов в языке славян; проблема их современного понимания, оценки и роли в общенациональном языке. Автор полагает, что вся древняя, сейчас нецензурная, лексика в далеком прошлом была общеславянской, сакральной и ни в коем случае не ругательной или низкой. Это в равной мере относится и к собственно «матерному» выражению, и к лексике, обозначающей порождающие органы человека. Также рассматриваются проблемы функционирования матерщиной лексики в современных русских анекдотах

Get PDFThe paper "Impact of Global Conflicts and Power Dynamics on Trade andCommodities" examines the transformative effects of geopolitical tensions andglobal power shifts on international trade and commodity flows. It argues that longstandingsupply chain models and traditional management practices are beingupended by rapidly evolving global conditions — including conflicts such as thewar in Ukraine and regional instabilities— - that are disrupting established traderoutes and forcing industry to seek alternative sources of raw materials. The authorsexamine the evolution from Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0, emphasizing theintegration of digitalization, intelligent automation and improved human–machinecollaboration to create more resilient and flexible production systems. The studyhighlights that the depletion of domestic resources in developed countries,combined with increasing reliance on distant supply chains, has increasedvulnerability to geopolitical and economic shocks. In response, companies areurged to adopt flexible, digitally integrated management systems that enable realtimemonitoring and adaptive decision-making. The paper proposes strategicmeasures such as the use of advanced logistics information systems, intelligentrobotics, sustainable and circular economy practices, and modular organizationalstructures that can be reconfigured to mitigate risk. It also emphasizes theimportance of investing in human capital and promoting global connectivity toensure continuous and efficient flows of goods in the face of ongoing internationalchallenges

Get PDFThe Multicultural Workshops program was launched with an intention to enablestudents from different ethnic backgrounds to interact with each other through collaborativejoint activities designed to provide conditions for learning from each other about eachother’s culture.This paper presents the results from a quantitative pre- and post- intervention studycarried out in two turns in one ethically mixed primary school where Roma students attendclasses in Macedonian as a language of instruction. The participants were 58 ethnicMacedonian and 63 ethnic Albanian students from four age groups who took part in 12-15Multicultural Workshops that included Roma students. In order to assess the effects of theexposure to the workshops on their perception of Roma, all participants were given a custom-designed instrument to identify the degree of social distance, trust and stereotypes towardsthem, as well as group anxiety and willingness for positive action.Taking into account the results that show differences in the participants’ perceptionof Roma and in their readiness to interact with them before and after the program, thepaper concludes that, under defined conditions, this approach could be considered as an exampleof a good practice in integrating Roma students in primary education.Програмата „Мултикултурни работилници“ беше промовирана со цел научениците од различните етнички заедници да им се создадат можности за меѓу-себна интеракција преку различни колаборативни заеднички активности, дизајни-рани така да можат да им обезбедат услови на учесниците да учат едни од другиза културата на другите.Во овој труд се презентирани резултатите од квантитативното истра-жување спроведено во два наврати, во едно двојазично училиште во земјата кадешто учат и ученици Роми кои главно посетуваат настава на македонски јазик. Ис-питаници беа вкупно 58 ученици – Македонци и 63 Албанци од четири возрасни гру-пи кои учествуваа во циклус кој се состои од 12 до 15 мултикултурни работилнициво кои беа вклучени и ученици Роми. За да се процени ефектот од изложеноста напрограмата врз тоа како учениците ги перципираат Ромите, на сите им беше зада-ден инструмент со кој се идентификува изразеноста на социјалната дистанца,стереотипите и довербата кон нив, како и групната анксиозност и подготвеностаза позитивна акција.Земајќи ги предвид резултатите кои укажуваат на тоа дека кај учесници-те во програмата се појавиле разлики во тоа како ги перципираат Ромите по зав-ршувањето на циклусот работилници, се заклучува дека под определени услови, наовој пристап може да се гледа како на пример за добра практика во интеграција научениците Роми во основното образование
