    Get PDF
This study examines the influence of school Leadership, reward systems, and teacher commitment on the effectiveness of private Islamic Senior High Schools (Madrasah Aliyah) in one province in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the individual and simultaneous contributions of these three variables in improving institutional effectiveness. Using a quantitative, survey-based approach, this study involved 91 teachers: 30 in the pilot study and 61 in the main sample. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using path analysis to assess the direct and indirect effects between variables. The findings revealed that school Leadership, reward systems, and teacher commitment each had a positive and significant impact on madrasah effectiveness. Among these variables, teacher commitment emerged as the most dominant factor. Together, the three variables accounted for 97.3 percent of the variance in madrasah effectiveness. These results highlight that the managerial and human dimensions play a crucial role in improving the performance of Islamic educational institutions, particularly in archipelagic regions characterized by diverse geographic and social conditions. This study provides practical implications for madrasah leaders and policymakers in designing Leadership strategies, reward mechanisms, and commitment-strengthening programs to improve the quality of education continuously

A Historical-Philological Reassessment of Al-Arba'ūna fi Al-Tasawwuf and Its Contribution to Early Sufi Engagements with Hadith

    Get PDF
This study analyzes the epistemological intersection between Sufism and Hadith Science through an in-depth examination of the work of Abū ‘Abd al-Raḥmān al-Sulamī, al-Arbaʿūn fī al-Taṣawwuf. Using a historical-philological method, the research reveals the mechanism of the "methodological dialogue" initiated by al-Sulamī, which seeks to reconcile the authority of hadith transmission (naql) with the spiritual epistemology of Sufism (kashf). Empirical philological findings indicate that the majority of hadiths in this collection are of weak (ḍaʿīf) or even fabricated (mawḍūʿ) status, yet doctrinally, al-Sulamī strategically employs them to construct a Sufi ethical-spiritual foundation centered on the concepts of zuhud, maḥabbah, and maʿrifah. This study clearly distinguishes between the findings of problematic sanad authenticity and al-Sulamī's interpretative claims that validate hadith through the alignment of meaning (ṣiḥḥat al-maʿnā) and spiritual considerations. The resulting epistemological insight demonstrates that this work is not merely a harmonious reconciliation, but rather a negotiation arena reflecting the creative tension between the historical-textual authority of the muhaddithūn and the inner experiential authority of the Sufis within the medieval Islamic intellectual tradition

    Get PDF

THE GENEALOGY OF TAQNĪN AL-AHKĀM AND ITS INITIAL IMPLEMENTATION IN THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE

    Get PDF
Taqnīn al-Ahkām represents a distinctive mode of applying Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) within the framework of modern state governance. While the historical emergence of taqnīn has been widely described, its conceptual foundations and theoretical positioning within Islamic legal thought remain insufficiently articulated. This study examines the genealogical development of taqnīn al-Ahkām, tracing its conceptual roots and historical manifestations, and analyzes its role as a juridical strategy for integrating fiqh into formal state legislation. Employing a qualitative historical–conceptual approach based on library research, this study analyzes primary classical texts and relevant secondary sources through contextual and conceptual analysis. The findings demonstrate that ideas resembling taqnīn can be identified as early as the writings of ʿAbd Allāh Ibn al-Muqaffaʿ, although they remained at the level of intellectual proposal. The first systematic and institutionalized implementation of taqnīn occurred during the Ottoman period through the Majalla al-Ahkām al-ʿAdliyyah, which marked a significant transformation of fiqh from normative jurisprudence into a codified legal system. This article argues that taqnīn al-Ahkām should be understood not merely as codification, but as a form of siyāsah sharʿiyyah that mediates between juristic norms and state legal authority. By clarifying the conceptual status of taqnīn within Islamic legal theory, this study contributes to contemporary debates on the adaptability of Islamic law in modern legislative contexts

The language utilized by politicians during electoral debates encompasses linguistic strategies for persuading and influencing their target audiences. Broadcasted on Indonesian televisions in 2023-2024, the presidential candidates articulated their visions and presented persuasive arguments to win over votes. I observed that one of the language principles employed by the candidates in the recent electoral debate to convince prospective voters was linguistic modality. This research scrutinizes the type and function of modality used by these candidates. It is revealed that modality verbs which frequently emerged, such as ‘bisa’ (can), ‘akan’ (will), ‘harus’ (must), ‘ingin’ (want), ‘mungkin’ (may), and ‘mesti’ (should). After being transcribed, all data comprising a total of 40.239-word tokens or 8.982-word types were saved as plain text (.txt). AntConc 4.2.4 Software was used to import data and to automatically generate its frequency, concordance, collocation, and KWIC. The results indicate that epistemic modality is (48%), dynamic modalities (7.32%), intentional modality (11.4%), and deontic modalities (33.28%). The results obtained from this research may offer supplementary insights for discourse analysts and other linguists who have a similar interest in studying modality. This research suggests that politicians are more convincing if they use strong modalities in electoral debates.
