    Get PDF
The phenomenon that many young learners continue to underperform due to limited home-based support and weak parental involvement though. This study investigates the critical features of effective Interactive Mathematics Homework (IMH) as a strategy to enhance early-grade pupils’ mathematics skills and foster meaningful parental engagement. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were collected through Focused Group Interviews (FGIs) with 63 parents and semi-structured interviews with 21 teachers and 10 head teachers across primary schools in Ukerewe District, Tanzania. Thematic analysis revealed four key characteristics of effective IMH, such ad a manageable number of questions, the inclusion of guided instructions, consistent feedback mechanisms, and alignment with the school curriculum. These elements were found to influence both the usability of the homework for families and its instructional value. The findings suggest that well-designed IMH can bridge the home–school gap in early mathematics education, encouraging collaborative efforts between teachers and parents. The study recommends integrating IMH into early-grade teaching practices to improve pupil outcomes and strengthen family-school partnerships in foundational mathematics learning

Institutional Adaptation of Islamic Boarding Schools in Indonesia: Balancing Tradition and Modern Education

    Get PDF
This study examines the institutional adaptation of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia in response to social, cultural, and educational changes. The primary focus of this research is the dynamics of change in governance, curriculum, and organisational practices in Islamic boarding schools. This research uses a qualitative design with a phenomenological-sociological approach. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with kiai, administrators, teachers, students, and alumni, as well as institutional archival documentation and direct observation. Data analysis was conducted using the adaptive strategy framework, institutional change theory, and Philip A. Woods' four elements of adaptation: amplification, instrumental artifacts, freedom as a capability, and resource mobilisation. The results show that amplification is rooted in reforms that affirm the core values of Islamic boarding schools, while instrumental artifacts are evident in formal education and alumni collaboration. Freedom is reflected in governance that allows for limited space for innovation, and resource mobilisation combines symbolic and material capital to support change. Islamic boarding school adaptation is selective, employing a strategy of "resisting while following," which maintains cultural authenticity while competing in modern education. This research provides implications that Islamic boarding schools are selective in maintaining cultural authenticity and competitiveness in the modern education landscape

    Get PDF
This study aims to explore the application of a leadership model based on local cultural wisdom. The focus of this study is to examine how local values, such as cooperation, deliberation, and social responsibility, influence the leadership process and decision-making. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data collection was conducted through interviews, observations, and documentation studies, which were then analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The findings demonstrate that a leadership model grounded in local values is capable of fostering social cohesion, collective responsibility, and inclusive decision-making. Programs such as community-based skills training and the construction of public facilities demonstrate the importance of cooperation and shared responsibility. The use of deliberation in the decision-making process ensures the involvement of all stakeholders, resulting in more effective and culturally relevant decisions. Additionally, the institution's commitment to preserving local culture while responding to modern challenges enhances its long-term sustainability. This study demonstrates that integrating local wisdom into leadership practices can improve institutional effectiveness and community engagement. Future research is recommended to explore the application of this model in other community-based organisations

Regulatory Ambiguity in Iddah: The Intersection of Circular Letters and Sirri Marriage Practices in Pontianak City

    Get PDF
This study investigates the critical issue of Regulatory Ambiguity surrounding the iddah period, specifically examining the friction between the Indonesian Circular Letter No. P-005/DJ.III/HK.00.7/10/2021 and the persistent, widespread practice of unregistered (sirri) marriage in Pontianak City. This intersection creates a crucial challenge to the coherence of Islamic Family Law, amplifying wider theoretical debates on Legal Dualism and the effectiveness of state intervention in personal status matters, ultimately jeopardizing women's rights and the legal protection of children. The primary purpose is to systematically identify the systemic causes of this discrepancy and analyze its profound impact on legal certainty and the state's authoritative capacity regarding matrimonial enforcement. Employing a combined juridical-normative and empirical approach, the research utilized legal document analysis alongside in-depth, strategic interviews with 10 key informants, comprising both officials from the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) and citizens directly involved in sirri marriages, thus providing credible insights into the practical realities of legal pluralism. Findings reveal a profound administrative breakdown, exemplified by the critical statistic that 93% of KUA officials demonstrate a failure to distinguish accurately between iddah talak raj'i (revocable divorce) and iddah talak ba'in (irrevocable divorce). This lack of administrative competency directly translates into a systemic vulnerability, where legal loopholes are routinely exploited, leading to the disenfranchisement of wives and children in property and inheritance claims. This article contributes significantly to the discourse on Islamic Family Law Reform, providing an evidence-based framework for jurisprudential clarity that promotes judicial authority and ensures equitable enforcement of marital rights in the long ter

Antenatal Care (ANC) is an essential health service during pregnancy that aims to detect risks early and maintain the health of the mother and fetus. Although the government has set a minimum standard of six ANC visits, the realization at the Sipatana Health Center in 2023 is still low, with K4 coverage of 34.8% and K6 only 30.5%. This indicates the low level of compliance of pregnant women in making ANC visits. Health cadres have an important role in increasing compliance through education and assistance. This study aims to examine the relationship between the role of health cadres and compliance with ANC visits. The approach used is quantitative with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 50 health cadres selected through total sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires that has gone through validity and reliability tests and documentation of medical records, then analyzed using the Chi-Square Test of Independence. The results showed that 46% of cadres played a less role and 26% were very less, and 60% of pregnant women were not compliant with ANC visits. There is a significant relationship between the role of health cadres and the level of compliance of pregnant women (p = 0.033  OR = 4,09). Conclusion: The role of cadres has a significant effect on compliance with ANC visits. Strengthening the capacity of cadres is very necessary to increase service coverage

Vaginal discharge is one of the most common reproductive health problems experienced by adolescent girls, often causing discomfort, reducing self-confidence, and potentially leading to more serious reproductive health issues if not properly managed. Limited knowledge and negative attitudes toward genital hygiene are among the contributing factors to its high prevalence. Health education using audiovisual media is considered an effective strategy for delivering health messages, as it combines visual and auditory elements that are more engaging, easier to understand, and capable of improving information retention. This study aims to analyze the effect of audiovisual-based health education on adolescent girls’ knowledge and attitudes regarding the prevention of vaginal discharge. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group was applied, involving 60 students equally divided into intervention and control groups selected through total sampling. The research instrument consisted of validated and reliable questionnaires measuring knowledge and attitudes. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon test, revealing a significant improvement in the intervention group after receiving audiovisual health education (p < 0.05), while no meaningful change occurred in the control group. These findings indicate that audiovisual health education is effective in enhancing adolescents’ understanding and fostering positive attitudes toward the prevention of vaginal discharge. Consequently, the approach is recommended for integration into school health programs and community-based interventions as an innovative and sustainable method to promote reproductive health among adolescents

In Loco Parentis and Positive Discipline: Building Schools as Character Building Communities

    Get PDF
This study aims to explore proactive discipline strategies in preventing indisciplined actions in public secondary schools. Using a qualitative approach and case study design, data were collected through focused group discussions involving students, teachers, and principals from five institutions. Key findings suggest that an effective discipline strategy consists of three key elements: parental involvement, school leadership that serves as a surrogate parent, and the application of positive discipline. Parents' emotional and communicative involvement has been shown to shape students' character and obedient behavior. The principal's participatory leadership, which is physically present in the school environment, creates a sense of security and strengthens student compliance. Meanwhile, a positive discipline approach that focuses on character development through example, dialogue, and active student involvement can increase intrinsic awareness of disciplinary values. This research makes a conceptual contribution to the development of a collaborative, humanistic, and contextual disciplinary management framework. The practical implications of this study include the need for systemic integration of all three strategies in national education policy to create a sustainable culture of discipline in secondary schools
