One of the instruments that is often not available for cell observation skills in high schools in Bekasi City is a microscope. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out community service activities (CSA) in the form of training in the use and maintenance of microscopes, making and observing cell slides, and cell observation documentation techniques for high school students in Bekasi City. This CSA method, based on Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) and Participatory Action Research (PAR), involves planning integrated CSA programs offered to several high schools in Bekasi City. The implementation stage was carried out in 6 meetings (each meeting started from 08.00-16.00) by providing a pre-test, delivering materials, conducting a post-test, practicing microscope use, making and observing cell slides, and documenting cell slide techniques. The evaluation stage was carried out by processing qualitative and quantitative data. The results of this CSA include 30 students: 19 from Al-Muhtadin High School and 11 from Annida Al-Islamy, MA. Statistical analysis using paired t-tests produced a sig value. 0.01<0.05 or CS activities can significantly increase the average value of knowledge about microscopes, while the average value of the skills test is 76.92. This CSA concludes that providing microscope materials and training as a CS activity package can enhance the knowledge and skills of 19 Al-Muhtadin High School students and 11 Annida Al-Islamy MA students in observing cells using a light microscope

Indonesia\u27s religiously plural districts have periodically experienced tensions rooted in administrative procedures and misunderstandings in interfaith relations. This service activity aimed to identify forms of religious attitudes and communication patterns in Aceh Tengah and Aceh Singkil communities, as well as surface participatory strategies for sustaining social harmony. Using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) cycle, the program included Training of Trainers (ToT), Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), participatory mapping, community education, and iterative monitoring and evaluation conducted with teachers, students, religious leaders, FKUB members, and local officials. The service showed that Aceh Tengah exhibited strong tolerance supported by inclusive Gayo cultural norms, open deliberative communication, and proactive engagement between the government and the FKUB. Aceh Singkil faced recurrent challenges related to worship-permit arrangements, yet communities maintained mutual respect and associative ties that helped de-escalate issues. The program empowered local stakeholders to act as agents of tolerance and clarified bottom-up feedback channels within existing top-down procedures, generating practical improvements and guidance for replication. In conclusion, collaborative, bottom-up communication institutionalized through government, interfaith forums, and community partnerships was essential to manage diversity and sustain harmony; the PAR-based approach provided a practical model and transferable lessons for similar plural settings across Indonesia

Fishermen families represent vulnerable coastal communities facing socio-economic instability due to fluctuating catches, long value chains, and limited literacy in social, economic, and legal risk management. This program addresses their multi-dimensional vulnerability through the development of a Digital Ecosystem Model based on the Fisherman Care application, designed as an integrated capacity-building platform. The intervention focuses on three aspects: (1) Family Education (Parenting) to strengthen digital communication and parenting skills; (2) Economic Empowerment, promoting product diversification and digital marketing for MSMEs; and (3) Legal Education, emphasizing fisheries regulations, business legality, and social protection. Using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach and quantitative evaluation through pre- and post-tests involving 60 participants from the Paciran Fishermen Community, the program recorded significant improvements across all areas. The economic aspect increased from 2.5 to 3.8, showing success in creating alternative family income sources; parenting literacy improved from 2.2 to 3.6, reflecting better digital parenting awareness; and legal understanding rose from 2.0 to 3.5, enhancing awareness of sustainability and business legality. These outcomes confirm that the integrated digital ecosystem model effectively strengthens fishermen families’ economic independence, family resilience, and legal literacy, supporting sustainable livelihoods in coastal communities

Mathematics has lower accomplishment than other subjects, according to TIMSS in 2011 and 2015 and PISA in 2015 and 2018. Geometry and measuring are the topics with the fewest right answers in the most recent National Exams, which were held in 2018 and 2019. According to the Minister of Education and Culture Regulation No. 16 of 2022, instructors must be able to use technology and communication devices in the learning process. The purpose of this study is to see how Van Hiele theory, helped by the Geogebra application, affects students\u27 conceptual grasp of the geometry transformation topic taught in the D phase of the Merdeka Curriculum at the junior high school level. The subjects of this research were 55 students of grade IX who were divided into two groups, namely the experimental class which received learning with the application of Van Hiele theory assisted by the Geogebra application and the control class which applied conventional learning. The research was conducted using a mixed-methods approach, which combines both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. By using the Mann Whitney test on student score data of both class, it was concluded that there was no significant effect on level 0-visualization, level 1-analysis, and level 2-informal deduction, but there was a significant effect on students\u27 abilities at level 3-deduction and level 4-rigor, which means that students who are taught using Van Hiele learning theory assisted by the Geogebra application have better conceptual understanding than students who are taught conventionally

Characterization of the five-tier model of creative mathematical thinking in primary school learners

    Get PDF
Creative mathematical thinking skills among elementary students remain relatively low, largely due to predominantly procedural instruction, highlighting the need to examine the characteristics of their innovative thinking stages in solving data processing problems using the Subanji five-stage model. The study aimed to identify and describe students’ creative thinking patterns in handling ordinal data through the stages of pre-imitation, imitation, modification, combination, and construction. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected from 38 fifth-grade students in Malang through open-ended tasks, think-aloud protocols, interviews, and documentation. The analysis involved data reduction and triangulation. Results revealed the distribution of students across stages: 10.53% at pre-imitation, 34.21% imitation, 23.68% modification, 18.42% combination, and 13.16% construction. Students showed a progression from routine and imitative approaches to independently constructed strategies, such as assigning weighted scores to ranked data and analyzing the frequency of options. These findings suggest that the Subanji model effectively captures the development of creative mathematical thinking and support the integration of open-ended tasks and scaffolded guidance to foster creativity in mathematics learning
