This article aims to characterise the cultural landscape of Canfranc and the upper valley of the Aragon River (Huesca, Spain), and to analyse its historical evolution through the images that it has generated over the time. A landscape defined by its strategic location on the border with France in a narrow valley of the Pyrenean mountain range, which gives it a strong defensive/military bias and a strong symbolic connotation. Its first known representations come from the historical mapping and planimetry of the 16th century, although photography (and its reproduction) was and has been the most used method to bear witness to the changes experienced by this territory, especially from the first decades of the 20th century, following the opening of the tunnel and the international station, and can also be a powerful tool in heritage management and in the work being carried out with the heritage communities.
This article aims to draw attention to the neglect of the historical value of public works in Catalonia. It proposes some reasons for this fact that the author considers specific to the Catalan reality. With regard to the current development of public works in the region, he states that a scenario has been reached in which the substitution and rectification of layouts or elements of public works threatens the survival of previously built assets. For this reason, he considers that the present moment is decisive for the historical documentation of public works assets. It should be the Administration, in this case, the departments of Territori, Habitatge i Transició Ecològica and Cultura, who sponsor the historical inventory work and promote, subsequently, the cultural heritage of a selection of elements or layouts for their reuse as an asset of the decontamination policies.
The current essay addresses the Turkish perspective regarding with the territorial disputes which takes place between Greece and Turkey. The period studied ranges from December 2017 to December 2021. Taking advantage from the research conducted by Goddard, MacDonald and Nexon (2019) as well as by Wilson Rove (2019), a theoretical framework has been designed in which, States’ action at an international level are understood as resources’ mobilization. The data obtained mainly from the information provided by Turkish Presidency’s website linked to the disputes at the Aegean. Thus, the objective consists in understand how Turkish conception regarding with Aegean’s Disputes have evolved as international and regional events have unfolded. Such alluded perspective has translated into a specific resources’ mobilization whose ultimate goal has always been make Turkey’s interest prevail. All in all, it has attempted to comprehend the kind of actions conducted by Turkey at the Aegean throughout the aforementioned period of time.

Social work with migrants: challenges of the professional well-being of social workers in the reception system
Introduction. The increasing presence of cultural diversity has become a prevalent aspect of social work in many EU countries. Although public services represent a relevant source of support for the' inclusion process of immigrants, they also face several challenges in providing tailored and suitable health care to accommodate cultural variation and meet the diverse cross-cultural needs of immigrants. In this context, social work with immigrants is grounded in the principles of empathy and intercultural sensitivity. Social workers should value diversity and provide services that reflect an understanding of the diversity across cultures. However, given the heavy demands placed on them, coupled with increasingly diminishing resources, they often may experience psychological distress. Methods. Building on a multidisciplinary foundation, this study focuses on understanding the well-being condition of professionals operating in the migration sector by evidencing whether the levels of burnout (i.e., the experience of exhaustion, cynicism, and inefficiency experienced at work because of chronic emotional and interpersonal stressor on the job) are associated with individuals’ empathy and sensitivity to different cultures and background. In detail, participants were 38 social workers, aged between 30 and 60 years (M = 39.63, SD = 11.22), from Italy (N = 8), Spain (N = 23), and Sweden (N = 7). Participants responded using well-validated instruments across the three countries for assessing burnout, empathy, and intercultural sensitivity. Results. The analysis of variance revealed significant differences among social workers in Italy, Spain, and Sweden in terms of mental distance at work, interaction attentiveness when communicating with people from different backgrounds, and empathy. Beyond these differences, the findings of the profile analysis show that social workers with higher intercultural sensitivity and average levels of empathy generally report lower burnout symptoms across contexts. Discussion and conclusions. These results suggest that cultural sensitivity may be a protective factor against work-related stress across contexts, emphasizing the importance of fostering intercultural sensitivity through targeted training and support to enhance social workers' well-being and improve service delivery to migrant populations. The present study extends knowledge on the multifaceted mosaic of the everyday relationship between social workers and migration, promoting a greater understanding of professional perspectives from a multicultural perspective and the exchange of good practices between different territories and services.
Co-constructing Good Practices: social work with unaccompanied minors in Italy
Introduction. The reception and integration of Unaccompanied and Separated Children (UASC) in migration context across Europe require not only adequate legislative and service frameworks, but also effective and reflective social work practices. Within the framework of the European Project Global-ANSWER Project, this Italian case study examines what constitutes “good practice” in social work with UASC, drawing on a shared theoretical model developed by the project’s transnational network. The study focuses on four core analytical dimensions: continuity; decolonisation; circularity; prevention, exploring how these intersect with practice and policy in the Italian context. Methods. The research adopts a collaborative methodology, combining qualitative narrative interviews (n = 14) with social workers and recently adult former UASC, alongside additional documentary and policy analysis. Interviews were thematically analysed using Atlas.ti, based on the dimensions of good practice co-developed within the network by scholars and practitioners. The approach aimed to co-construct knowledge by integrating professional expertise with lived experience. Results. The findings indicate that “continuity” in social work emerges when practices are embedded in inter-institutional networks and aligned with local service systems, thereby ensuring equal access and continuity of support. “Decolonisation” is reflected in the adoption of rights-based, non-ethnocentric, approaches that foster intercultural communication and recognise the diverse experiences of UASC. “Circularity” is evident in practices that enable professionals to integrate personal, theoretical and policy dimensions through supervision, shared reflection, and responsiveness to individual trajectories. Finally, “prevention” is demonstrated in practices that link reception and care to long-term community integration, promoting autonomy beyond institutional support. Discussion and conclusions. Collectively, these four dimensions provide a conceptual and operational framework for evaluating and strengthening social work practices with UASC. They support a vision of social work as both a relational and systemic endeavour, capable of promoting structural inclusion through co-designed, context-sensitive interventions. By focusing on the intersection of practice, policy and lived experience, this study offers valuable insights into what constitutes good practice in social work with UASC. It highlights the importance of a continuous, decolonised, and prevention-oriented practice, developed in circular dialogue with theory, as essential for inclusive and effective social work with young migrants
Introduction. Since its inception, the profession of Social Work has been linked to the support provided to people in vulnerable situations and/or at risk of social exclusion throughout their life cycle. Thus, among its objectives as a profession are those related to income security and social and labor integration. The objective of this research is to analyze the inclusion of this subject in the undergraduate studies in Social Work at public universities integrated into the G9: University of La Rioja (UR); University of Castilla – La Mancha (UCLM); University of Extremadura (UEX); University of the Balearic Islands (UIB); University of Oviedo (UO); University of the Basque Country (UPV – EHU); Public University of Navarra (UPNA); University of Zaragoza (UNIZAR) and University of Cantabria (UC). Methods. To cover the functions of the profession’s specific functions, a two-pronged analysis was undertaken. First, the Statute of the Diploma in Social Work/Social Worker Profession and the White Paper on the Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work were studied. Second, the information provided through university campus websites regarding undergraduate educational offerings were analyzed. Results. It was found that training on social and labor integration in Social Work is generalist, with a greater presence of other disciplines such as Law, Sociology and Economics. Discussion and conclusions. The research confirms the presence of this professional profile within the specific functions of Social Work. It also points to the need to strengthen specialized training in social and employment integration and guidance, thereby establishing the proper performance of the functions entrusted to them as a profession.
Introduction: Vitamin D deficiency is a global health concern often aggravated by conventional sunscreens, which block Ulta violet B (UVB) radiation essential for endogenous vitamin D synthesis. This study aimed to formulate a sunscreen cream containing 7-dehydrocholesterol, a vitamin D precursor, to provide sun protection while allowing cutaneous vitamin D production.
Methods: An oil-in-water (O/W) emulsion sunscreen cream was prepared using 7-DHC, zinc oxide, paraffin oil, beeswax, and other excipients. The formulation was evaluated for Sun Protection Factor via UV spectrophotometry and for physicochemical properties including pH, spreadability index, viscosity, squeezability, and homogeneity. Accelerated testing was conducted at 40±2oC and 75 ± 5% RH for three months as per ICH guidelines.
Results: The cream exhibited an intermediate SPF of 5.08, balancing UV protection with adequate UVB transmission for vitamin D synthesis. The pH (5.86) was within the physiological skin range, and the spreadability index (3.3 g x cm/s) indicated good application characteristics. Viscosity and squeezability were optimal for consumer use, while homogeneity tests confirmed a stable, smooth emulsion without phase separation. Stability studies revealed no significant changes in appearance, pH, viscosity, or spreadability, demonstrating robustness under stress conditions.
Conclusion: A 7-DHC-enriched sunscreen cream was successfully developed with desirable physicochemical and stability properties. This dual-function formulation offers UV protection while potentially supporting vitamin D synthesis, representing a promising alternative to conventional sunscreens. Further in vivo and clinical studies are recommended to validate its efficacy in practical settings.
