Systematic Literature Review: The Role of Compensation in Enhancing Performance Outcomes

This systematic literature review (SLR) examines how compensation strategies both monetary (e.g. salary, bonuses, pay-for-performance) and non-monetary (e.g. recognition, benefits, flexibility) affect employee performance at the individual, team, and organizational levels. Following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, empirical studies (2014–2024) on compensation and performance were searched from the Scopus and Web of Science databases. After screening and quality appraisal (using the Joanna Briggs Institute tools), 67 primary research articles met the inclusion criteria. The findings were synthesized, highlighting that monetary incentives generally exhibit a positive, yet context-dependent, effect on performance, while non-monetary rewards often enhance intrinsic motivation and engagement. Several studies identified mediating factors such as motivation, justice perceptions, and job satisfaction, which explain how compensation influences performance. Moreover, moderators such as organizational culture, ownership structure, and leadership style shape the strength of these effects. In conclusion, both forms of compensation can improve performance when aligned with organizational context and employee needs. Gaps were identified, including limited evidence on long-term outcomes and under-researched non-monetary incentives. A research agenda is proposed to explore optimal compensation designs and their interactions with work motivation and team dynamics

As a vital part of the tourism sector, the hospitality industry plays a significant economic role but also contributes considerably to environmental degradation. Sustainable Supply Chain Management (SSCM) has emerged as a strategic approach to address these ecological impacts while improving operational and economic performance. This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the SSCM literature within the hospitality industry from 2015 to 2025, utilizing data extracted from the Scopus database. Using RStudio (Biblioshiny), VOSviewer, and Scopus Analyze. This research identifies publication trends, key contributing authors, prominent journals, countries, and the co-occurrence of keywords to map the intellectual structure of the field. A total of 95 articles were analyzed, revealing an upward trend in SSCM research, particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings indicate that the field is multidisciplinary, with significant contributions from business, social sciences, and environmental studies. China and Spain are the leading contributor countries, while the most frequently used keywords include "tourism," "sustainability," and "supply chain management." Cluster and thematic analyses revealed five major research themes, and gaps were identified in areas such as expert specialization, case studies, and integrating emerging technologies. The study also proposes future research directions by applying the Resource-Based View and Dynamic Capabilities Theory to examine how internal resources and adaptive capabilities influence sustainable supply chain strategies in the hospitality sector. These insights are valuable for academics, practitioners, and policymakers aiming to shape sustainable practices that align with global development goals

    No full text
This study analyzes the effect of public perception of the Smiling West Java digital advertising program on the image of West Java as a tourism destination, with brand awareness as a mediating variable. While digital marketing has become a primary strategy in tourism promotion and internet penetration in Indonesia is high (79.5% in 2024), the effectiveness of this regional digital advertising campaign has not been fully optimal. The West Java Tourism and Culture Office (2023) reported a significant increase in the production and distribution of promotional content through the official Smiling West Java channels. However, by the end of 2023, tourist visits had reached only 80% of the target of 218.7 million, with several destinations outside Lembang and Pangandaran experiencing stagnation or decline. Observations of the official Instagram account showed low user engagement and underutilization of promotional features. Using a quantitative causal research design with 166 respondents, multiple regression analysis and the Sobel test revealed that perception of digital advertising significantly influences brand awareness, and both variables significantly affect the tourism destination image. Brand awareness also significantly mediates this relationship. The findings provide practical insights for tourism managers to optimize emotionally engaging, informative, and interactive digital content to strengthen brand awareness and destination image.   Keywords: digital advertising, brand awareness, tourism destination image, Smiling West Java, perceptio
