“Religion in American Libraries” : The American Library Association
Get PDF本稿は，アメリカ図書館協会のウェブサイトに掲載された宗教に係るガイドライン及び問答集の翻訳である。主たる想定対象は公共図書館とされ，宗教書等のコレクション構築方針，宗教団体による，あるいは，宗教活動目的での集会室や展示スペースの利用に係る方針，図書館の利用者や職員の宗教的信念に対して取るべき姿勢，についてまとめられている。アメリカの図書館を研究する上で，その実態を深く理解するためには宗教的側面についても考慮する必要がある点，また，図書館サービスを広く展開していく上で，宗教的配慮が必要となる場面が今後日本国内でも増加しうる点から，本資料を紹介することとした。This paper constitutes a translation of Religion in American Libraries: An Interpretation of the Library Bill of Rights and Questions and Answers, published on the American Library Association’s website. These documents comprise collection development policies for religious materials and library policies of meeting rooms, exhibits, and space for displays for religious groups. Accommodating religious beliefs held by patrons and employees is also reviewed. Cultural analysis and deep understanding of American libraries necessitate a consideration of religious aspects in the United States for Japanese researchers. These guidelines will be useful for Japanese libraries when offering services to multicultural communities with various religious backgrounds.departmental bulletin pape
