Defining Validity for a University EFL Placement Test
Full text link本研究ノートは，日本のある低偏差値の大学において実施される，第二言語としての英語（EFL）授業のレベル分けテストについて，その妥当性をどう定義するかを論じたものである。大学では，英語の授業でクラス分けテストを行うことが珍しくないが，そこでテストの妥当性や基準が厳密に定義されているとは言えない。本ノートでは，日本の大学の英語教育におけるレベル分けの必要性，レベル分けを行う手段，そしてレベル分けのために標準テストを使用する際の妥当性について文献を吟味し，今後小規模大学のレベル分けテストの妥当性検証を行うにあたっての展望を示した。This paper is a collection of research notes regarding how to define validity for an EFL placement exam implemented at a low-level university in Japan. Level placement tests are common in university EFL programs, but there is little research into their validity. In this paper, the literature was examined to determine the necessity of level division for English classes at Japanese universities, different methods for level division, and validity considerations for using a standardized test for level division. Educative Experience and Liberty : The Performance of Experimental Music
Full text link「実験音楽」とは，「結果が予知できない」音楽であり，「瞬間の唯一性」を体現する音楽である。作曲家クリスチャン・ウォルフの不確定性の作品は，図形楽譜として記譜され，まさに実験音楽としてそれらを体現している。演奏内容の決定は奏者の裁量に任されることが多く，他の奏者の音を聴いてその都度判断しなければならないという困難が伴う。そうしたウォルフの作品は，奏者に多くの問いを投げかけ，予測できない事態を引き受けることを奏者に課す。それはまさに「教育的経験」として作用し，かつ自分の知らないことを行い自分の「外」に出るという「自由」をも呼び起こす。“Experimental music” is music where the “outcome is unpredictable,” the music embodies “the uniqueness of the moment.” Composer Christian Wolff’s works of indeterminacy, notated as graphic scores, embody these very qualities as experimental music. Decisions regarding what to play are often left to the player’s discretion, with the added difficulty of having to listen to other players’ sounds and make decisions on a case-by-case basis. Wolff’s works pose many questions to the players and force them to take on unpredictable situations. It is truly an “educational experience,” and it evokes the “freedom” to do what one does not know and to go “outside” oneself.departmental bulletin pape
