AI-Powered Learning: Shaping the Future of Academic Writing in EFL Education in Indonesia
This study investigates the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) academic writing teaching, with an emphasis on problems and perceptions among Indonesian teachers and students. To analyze prevalent challenges connected to AI use in education, data were collected using a qualitative descriptive approach from teacher comments, classroom observations, and relevant literature. The findings highlight five important themes: low digital literacy, unequal access to infrastructure, student overreliance on AI technologies, a lack of pedagogical training, and varied teacher attitudes towards AI in the classroom. Despite these challenges, many Indonesian EFL teachers recognise AI's potential to assist personalised learning, streamline feedback processes (especially via conferencing), and improve instructional methods. This study advances our understanding of AI's educational impact in Indonesian EFL environments, emphasising the importance of focused professional development and equal access to technology
Linguistic, Cognitive, and Environmental Barriers to English Paragraph Writing: A Mixed-Methods Study of Indonesian EFL Students
Writing English paragraphs remains a significant challenge for many EFL students at UIN Raden Intan Lampung, a public Islamic university characterized by diverse linguistic and academic backgrounds. This study investigated the linguistic, cognitive, and environmental barriers to English paragraph writing through a convergent parallel mixed-methods design. Quantitative data were collected via questionnaires from 60 students, complemented by semi-structured interviews with 10 participants for qualitative insights. Results showed that linguistic difficulties, especially vocabulary limitations (78%) and grammar issues (65%), were the most prevalent obstacles. Cognitive challenges such as idea generation (48%) and paragraph organization (42%) also considerably affected students’ writing performance. Additionally, 25% of students identified environmental factors noisy classrooms and limited writing time as disruptive influences. Interview data revealed that vocabulary problems stemmed from minimal English exposure and ineffective learning strategies, while grammar struggles were linked to heavy reliance on L1 translation, influenced by students’ religious education. These findings align with Swain’s Output Hypothesis, emphasizing the role of active language production in writing development. By addressing gaps in Indonesian EFL research, this study highlights the complex, overlapping barriers faced by students in Islamic university settings and recommends integrated instructional approache
The Digital Learning Model to Enhance Students' Understanding and Interest in Learning: A Case Study at Cangkreng II Lenteng State Elementary School, Sumenep
Traditional learning models are often less effective in increasing elementary school students' interest in science and technology. The limitations of interactivity and visualization in traditional models encourage the need for digital-based learning innovations. This study aims to identify the impact of digital learning models on students' interest and learning outcomes in science subjects. The research used a qualitative approach with a case study method. The research subjects consisted of school teachers at Cangkreng II Lenteng Sumenep primary school. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman analysis model which includes data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion. The findings indicate that digital learning models have great potential in improving the quality of science learning in primary schools. The use of interactive media, simulations, and engaging visualizations can help students build a better understanding of abstract science concepts. This research contributes to developing digital learning theory by demonstrating the effectiveness of technology-based learning models in improving students' motivation and learning achievement. The implication for learning practice is the importance of integrating digital technology into the science learning process to create a more enjoyable and effective learning environment
Customary Ritual and Islamic Law: Legal Reflections on the Pati Ka Du'a Bupu Ata Mata of the Lio Tribe in Pemo Village
Pati Ka Du'a Bupu Ata Mata is a ritual of reverence practiced by the Lio tribe, in which offerings are presented to ancestral spirits. These offerings typically include cigarettes, betel nuts, brown rice, chicken, pork, pork heart, and beverages such as moke (palm wine). The ritual concludes with Mosalaki (traditional leaders) and participants consuming part of the offerings. However, the majority of the Lio tribe in Pemo Village have a limited understanding of Islamic teachings. This study aims to examine the practice of Pati Ka Du'a Bupu Ata Mata and assess its compatibility with Islamic law within the Lio tribe community in Pemo Village. A qualitative research approach is employed, with purposive sampling used to select key informants, including Mosalaki, as well as religious and community leaders in Pemo Village, Kelimutu District, Ende Regency. Data for this study were gathered through observation, interviews, documentation, and bibliographic analysis. The research follows a structured data analysis method consisting of data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that Pati Ka Du'a Bupu Ata Mata is a tradition of offering tribute to deceased ancestors as an expression of gratitude to both the divine and the ancestral lineage that brought life to the present generation. These offerings—brown rice, palm wine (moke), areca nut, liver, and pork heart—serve as a means of strengthening communal ties and honoring heritage. However, from the perspective of Islamic law, this ritual is considered impermissible, as it involves elements of shirk (associating partners with God) and the consumption of pork and palm wine, which are explicitly prohibited in Islam. The implications of this study highlight the importance of religious awareness within the community, encouraging individuals to avoid rituals that conflict with Islamic teachings as prescribed in the Qur'an and Hadith
The Tradition of Nyadokaken Pengantin in Osing Tribe Marriages in Indonesia: An 'Urf Perspective
This study examines the Nyadokaken pengantin tradition in the marriage of the Osing tribe in Kemiren Village, Banyuwangi, emphasizing its origins, execution, and legal standing under Islamic law. This research utilizes a qualitative methodology, encompassing participant observation, in-depth interviews, and recording while adopting a normative framework that integrates Pierre Bourdieu's habitus theory as an analytical instrument. Research suggests that Nyadokaken began as a method for conflict settlement aimed at preserving familial unity. It possesses considerable societal significance, as families that renounce it encounter stigma and less social acknowledgment. From a fiqh standpoint, the tradition is classified as ‘urf shahih, as it conforms to Al-‘Adah Muhakkamah, meeting the standards of recognized customary practice in Islamic jurisprudence. This study enhances Islamic family law by examining how ‘urf shahih might incorporate local traditions into modern Islamic legal frameworks. Utilizing a sociocultural approach reconciles normative Islamic law with actual practices, providing insights into the adaptive characteristics of Islamic legal principles in Indonesia

Keadilan Distributif dalam Ekonomi Islam: Analisis Filosofis dan Implikasinya terhadap Ketimpangan Sosial-Ekonomi
The concept of distributive justice in Islamic economics presents an alternative to capitalist economic systems that often lead to inequality and social disparity. While capitalism prioritizes profit and market freedom, Islamic economics emphasizes equitable wealth distribution grounded in the values of tauhid (oneness of God), khilafah (stewardship), and maslahah (public interest). This study aims to critically analyze how the principles of distributive justice in Islamic economics can address contemporary issues of economic inequality and social injustice. Employing a descriptive qualitative method through an integrative literature review, this research examines classical Islamic economic texts and contemporary scholarly works, focusing on themes of justice, wealth redistribution, and ethical governance. The findings indicate that Islamic economic justice requires not only the prohibition of exploitative practices such as riba and monopoly but also active state involvement in regulating distribution and promoting social welfare. The integration of moral values such as justice, amanah (trust), and social responsibility into policy-making is essential for achieving sustainable and inclusive economic development. The study concludes that the framework of Islamic distributive justice offers a holistic and value-driven approach to economic policymaking, with potential applications in addressing structural poverty and fostering a just society
